    Great chicken for cheap.
    Joseph T.

For what it is, Dixie Chicken is fantastic. The chicken is great. It has a good batter and good crisp to it. It's better than your national chain chicken, and cheaper too. The sides are also better than anything you'll get at Popeye's or KFC. This place is comparable to Indi's. If you like Indi's, you'll like Dixie Chicken. Note that it is takeaway only. Which is fine.

Occupying the spot of a former bakery, across from the Walgreen's at a corner of Dixie Highway and Crums Lane, near the intersection where it's a complete cluster%$^ with Dixie Highway taking one direction, 7th Street beginning and Crums Lane attempting to cross both, sits Dixie Chicken. I don't know if this one is associated with the one that exists at Oak Street nearer to downtown, but I suspect there's some connection. Dixie Chicken is strictly carry out. Call in your order or stop by, they usually have their mainstays (fried chicken, spicy or mild, ribs, fresh pulled pork and assorted sides, mac & cheese, greens, yams, etc.) available in a heating table behind glass. They'll also cook some chicken up fresh if you like. Compared to some of the other local fried chicken, Dixie's is really similar to Indi's. Dixie's chicken is crispy with a thick, salty batter but I don't think there's enough of a striking difference from Indi's to choose one over the other. It doesn't help Dixie's that their location is difficult to get in and out of unless you're familiar with the area, and they don't have a drive-thru. They seem to be doing decent business so I wouldn't be surprised if they stick around but considering there's an Indi's right up the road, I'd likely choose them first. That is to say, not to say that Dixie's isn't fine, it's just I'd likely not cross the road just to get to this particular chicken.

Just ordered 50 wings. Get them back to the hotel to see I only was given 41. I could see being off by 1 or 2 but 9?

There are also picnic tables out front. You get a faint whiff of the grill/smoker upon entering. Kylie was our bartender and she was fabulous - knowledgeable, friendly, and answered all of our questions with patience. Wife ordered a mango margarita and doesn't like a lot of tequila, so Kylie went half and gave her a shot on the side in case she wanted to add more. It was wonderful. I had a couple of beers. We started with the fried mushrooms, which aren't what you would expect. It's two large portobellos cut into chunks, battered, fried, and served with sun-dried tomato mayo. They were great. I then ordered a duck taco, brisket taco, and a side of Grippo Fries with smoked mayo. I'd never tried duck but that taco was smack-a-lackin'. The brisket taco was also good, and the fries were fantastic - sweet and spicy, fresh cut, and crispy. Wife ordered a pork belly slider and truffle fries. She enjoyed the slider but didn't care for the fries - just not her thing. The portions here are large. A side of fries will feed three people. We took a hefty portion of them home, as well as some of the mushrooms. We could've sat there at the bar and spent 3 hours socializing and enjoying a smattering of cocktails - love the setting. Look forward to going back and trying one of the burgers at some point.

I was going to a UofL women's basketball game and I FINALLY was able to make it here. I went a little overboard on the food, but everything sounded so good! I really loved the pork belly slider and the duck tacos. Mac and cheese balls always slap. Then there are the famous duck fat fries. The portion is substantial, I was thrilled with that. Flavor wise they did not change my life like I was hoping they would. Still ate them all. The locale is super unassuming from the street, but inside it is really cool, divey, and broody. The staff was super sweet and helped me get in and out efficiently so I could make it to the game. Would absolutely recommend, would absolutely come back, and would absolutely bring friends here.

Voted best burger and there's a reason, because it's so freaking delicious. I enjoyed every bite. I did the sauce on the side because I didn't want to mask any of the beef flavor. The Toasty's sauce is good and ketchup and mustard also work. Just an amazing, delicious, incredible burger. We shared an order of fries with the magic dust. They were also really good, but I couldn't eat many because I was full from all that delicious burger. Very good fries. The service was good. I would definitely return if in the area. You order at the window, take a buzzer, get your drinks and find somewhere to sit. We (a party of 4) showed up around 11 on a Sunday morning and the line was already out the door. We had a hard time deciding what to order because everything we saw coming out before us looked just as delicious as the last. After the owner greeted us and gave a run down while in line, we settled on the shrimp and grits, steak and eggs, bread pudding french toast with a side of bacon, and a chicken and bacon croissant sandwich. (I wanted to order the biscuits and gravy weekend feature but they were already sold out.) The girl at the register was polite but very soft spoken so we had trouble hearing what she said. The coffee was the perfect temperature for drinking immediately without scalding yourself, and the different flavorings and types of milk/cream to choose from was a major plus! There were no complaints about any of our food except the steak was a bit under seasoned. I had the french toast, and, in my opinion, is enough for 2 people. There was a bit too much whipped buttercream for me but I was able to rake off majority, and the fruit that came on top was so fresh! The bacon was thick sliced and 3 of my 4 pieces were cooked perfectly to my liking - not too crispy, not too soft! We all were part of the clean plate club after eating because the food was that good! I wished now we would have taken pics of our food before eating! It's a shame it came up as #16 on my Yelp search because it wasn't even the least bit on my radar for our breakfast spot. Seating was comfortable, noise level mild during our visit midafternoon, and service was great. Food was very good and we each ordered various items: French dip sandwich, hamburger, crab cake sandwich, and turkey burger. I enjoyed my as-is menu item of a dressed Terrell's turkey burger with a bit of spicy seasoning, pickles, Russian dressing, etc., and it was juicy and seasoned just right. It was accompanied by a standard side of fries, which were served with the skin on (a personal fave), and very tasty. This is my third visit this year and each time trying a different menu item. North of Bourbon absolutely lives up to the hype. With features in multiple publications highlighting it as one of the best restaurants in Louisville, expectations were high and they still managed to exceed them. Blending low country and creole style cooking with a distinct bourbon country influence, this place delivers both in flavor and experience. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere sets the tone. The massive bourbon barrel style booths are eye catching and unlike anything else in the city. Our group of six was seated in one, which added a fun and memorable touch to the evening. The menu is thoughtfully designed with a great mix of shareable plates and mains. We decided to go family style so we could try as much as possible, and that was definitely the right move. Standout dishes included the ultra flaky catfish nuggets, fresh shucked oysters with a bright citrus zest, and the spicy lamb noodles packed with bold flavor from braised lamb shoulder, collard greens, and benne chili crisp. The fried chicken gumbo was another highlight, rich and deeply flavorful with its chocolate roux, andouille, and perfectly cooked fried chicken thigh over Carolina gold rice. Cocktails are a must here. As you would expect in Louisville, the bourbon program is serious. There is a deep selection for neat pours along with a creative cocktail list featuring several takes on an old fashioned. The Get Buttered old fashioned was a standout, with browned butter washed Wild Turkey 101 bringing a rich and unique depth of flavor. Service was fantastic from start to finish. The team handled our table of six with ease, pacing everything perfectly and accommodating two late arrivals due to a flight delay without missing a beat. Their food came out quickly once they arrived, which kept the experience seamless. A final standout moment was the opportunity to purchase a special bourbon bottle released during a recent dinner collaboration with Benton's Bacon. There were only two left, and I was lucky enough to walk away with one, which really capped off an already great night. Overall, North of Bourbon delivers an exceptional dining experience with bold flavors, a unique setting, and top tier hospitality. This is a must visit spot in Louisville.
