You will always find a very attentive staff, very polite, always willing to help and it feels like you are among friends when you go there. Whoever is doing the recruitment and training over there, must be given full marks for their effectiveness. The place is always busy, local Wiltoneers pouring in and out and it has everything from Veggies to milks, to meat, to Deli items and even cooked food. The food is always fresh and you find them restocking newly prepared food throughout the day. Everything here has a feel of freshness and the quality is consistently good. Besides grocery, I love their quiches and even the sushi is excellent. It's great as I live nearby , but if you are in the area, do benefit from this local Grocery store.

Over the years I have lived in Connecticut, I've used this store on and off to shop. It's not a…read morebig store, but there is definitely a community feel within those who shop here and so you kind of get a feel for how the town of Wilton is as a community. Based on my experience, this place has come in pretty clutch for me from time to time, and this has especially been true for me this year. So in the time I have come to shop here, I feel very comfortable in giving this 4 stars. It's the right rating for this place because there's a lot of good things you can buy here. Sometimes you will have sales on certain items that might save you a little money. But now we get into 2 reasons why I can't give this the full 5: this place can get OTT expensive real quick, and not everything they offer is actually worth buying. Some of the prepared meals like the spicy tenders or the grilled chicken you can just tell is processed to oblivion just from one look at it. So you definitely need to be careful what you buy from here. That being said, there's a lot more here that is worth buying than not. Their baked goods for example are quite good, and the breads are actually pretty good quality and worth the extra cost. Some of the things I have learned to cook come out a lot more delicious when buying groceries from this place. For example, I've recently learned how to make a Philly cheesesteak, and the ingredients I get for it largely come from right here at the Village Market! Same with Mac and cheese. And even though some prepared foods don't hit the mark, the ones that do are actually really good. Lastly, remember how I mentioned this place has a community feel? This is due in large part to the customer service in this grocery store. They are always warm, welcoming. It almost makes me feel like I'm one of the family in Wilton even though I live an hour away. All in all, great place to shop as long as you can afford it. Just don't get everything from here and mix in other cheaper places too.

This review is an emotional outpouring…read more Stew Leonard's (SL) has been a part of my life for 55 years. I first came to this store soon after it opened, when it was much smaller and the only SL store. I now live a few hours away from any of the stores, but 2 SL shopping bags are among those my family uses regularly. I still go here and to other SLs when it's opportune, and the close relationship between SL and my family culminated when, upon his passing, SL SR. was placed a few strides away from my parents at Willowbrook Cemetery (rated 5). Over the years our family developed a close personal connection with the store. My mother became good friends with the head chef there (the prepared foods are excellent--I still always get the ambrosia salad when I'm there!). Sorry I don't recall his name. He was there from at least the mid 90s to the early 2000s. As my mother grew older we started having increasing numbers of SL items as side dishes at our holiday meals. In 2001 when she died we had SL provide the whole Thanksgiving dinner. I recall going in and speaking to the head chef, informing him of my mother's passing. He said he had wondered what had happened to her and missed her. The connection between our family and the store grew with my wife and kids. When we got engaged I got my wife's parents a SL gift basket, complete with Elsa the cheese cow. We would all visit this store and some of the others while traveling, enjoying the ice cream on site and bringing non-perishables back home, as well as apple cider in season--we'd bring the coolers for that. I don't know if my mother ever met either the Senior or Junior proprietor. I won't say I 'met' either of them, but I did encounter them both together once. There were no intros, and it was brief and terse. It was early summer 1979 or '80; like many college students, I thought SL would be a good summer 'gig'. I went to apply and found no parking spaces, but saw another parking lot across the street. I parked there and two men, one old one young, both dressed business formal, went walking past. The older one asked why I was parking there. I noticed the SL employee-only sign only then; I said I was going to apply for a job. He insisted there were none available. I started to say I would like to just leave an application, but he cut me off, saying again "there are no jobs!" [Please continue reading in the review space for the Stew Leonard's store in Danbury. They will "go in the back" to get items for you if none are on the shelves. I noticed many items are now Bowl and Basket. Most ShopRite store brands will not list the country of origin....just distributed by Shoprite. The issue I have is with the Fish Department. If I ask one particular worker for 5 pieces of fish (usually about .75 pounds), that worker grabs a handful of fish and the weight is over 1.3 or 1.4 pounds. So I have to ask him to do my order over and remove pieces. When we shop in the morning he is usually cleaning the display or moving the price signs around even if there is a line of customers waiting to order. On more than one occasion I noticed that he did not change his gloves when picking up fish....so he is touching items all over the display wearing gloves and keeping the same gloves on to handle fish and seafood. Now we wash fish we buy from Shoprite before cooking it. Another time I picked up a pre-packaged "cod" that found in the display case for customers who don't want to wait to order. The date on every prepacked fish was expired by one or two days. I flagged the same Fish Department worker who immediately removed all items the case and went into the back. 1.CHECK ALL EXPIRATION DATES ON CANS, PRODUCE, BOXED ITEMS, DAIRY. 2. Be sure to check your receipt before exiting the store. It seems as if every week there is an issue with their prices. Several items are not properly shelved or the digital/ member prices are not calculated properly. My routine is to go to Customer Service each week with my receipt of overpriced item(s) and get a free item or the item is properly credited. This included alerting the Store Manager about a discounted item in the circular that was NOT even entered into their system. This meant that customers who purchased this item before us (it was day 2 of the sale) were overcharged for that item.

To begin, I was at the hot bar, waiting for an extended period of time, which another customer even noted, and when the woman came from behind the counter, she proceeded to touch her nose as well as the interior of the food dish, which was concerning. I actually declined taking the food. The bathroom - I'll just leave that to your imagination, but it was pretty gross Overall, the store seems dirtier, and the managers are less friendly than the gentleman who used to be there. The high school kid at the checkout was rude and had an attitude, and the kid packing the groceries threw my items in like it was a bag of Legos. This was really upsetting. So while there are some essentials when a quick pick up is needed, given the price of the prepared foods in the overall state of things in the market, going with three out of five stars, which is pretty generous at this time

Just had to listen to three employees discuss how being gay is a sin and people need to read the Bible and understand being gay goes against God. They were saying this right in front of me in the seltzer aisle. I wasn't eavesdropping on a secret conversation. As a gay person all I can say is WTF? This isn't the first time something like this has happened either. A few weeks ago as I was paying for groceries the cashier in the aisle next to mine was interrogating the bagger in my aisle about his brother's sexuality. Not a conversation you have with customers around. I literally just moved back up north after living in the south for a decade. Never had this happen in a Publix. I'll gladly drive the extra ten minutes to Ridgefield going forward. The employees at Stop & Shop seem to be more professional.
