She had many comfort measures for me during my painful contractions. Although I was almost giving up and asking for medication, she never got discouraged or let me feel that I couldn't do it. Her positive affirmations, calmness and confidence were definitely the reason I was able to go all the way through with the unmedicated birth, even when I thought I couldn't do it anymore. I was referred to Davon by a midwife I had previously worked with. Davon's warm, friendly and kind energy made it easy to connect with her. Davon is very knowledgeable and the informative prenatal sessions were so valuable in knowing what to expected for labor and delivery. The services I chose were the hybrid doula services, placenta salve and postpartum belly binding. At 38 weeks and 2 days my water broke at midnight. My partner texted Davon to notify her but, never heard back from her until 6am. Davon does encourage families to call her if she doesn't respond to texts which we failed to do while trying to navigate my early labor. When Davon followed up with us she encouraged us to keep her posted. At 11am we were instructed by my doctor to head to the hospital. We notified Davon and she communicated to us that she wouldn't be available until 4pm. When my mom, wife and I got to the hospital we were told that due to Covid they weren't allowing guests to switch out. Which meant that Davon couldn't come switch out my mom to support delivery in person. Therefore, she agreed to support us virtually. Davon let us know that she had another client in labor but, reported that she wasn't as far along as I was in my labor. I knew this was a possibility when I signed on for services but, because my plan had changed to virtual I started to feel like I was not priority anymore. While I was in labor Davon checked in with my partner a couple times to see how I was doing. She encouraged my partner to make sure I was hydrated and educated my partner on advocating on my behalf regarding the Pitocin I was given . Davon did encourage my partner to reach out if we needed anything so we didn't hear much from her since she had another client in labor. With this being our first birth the reassurance/emotional support, suggestions for labor and help with relaxation, reminders of soothing touch, positioning and other techniques for comfort during labor, unfortunately wasn't reflected or felt with Davon being virtual. I'm sure I would have had a more supportive experience if she was in person. One of the concerns I expressed during my prenatal visits was that my partner would need a lot of support supporting me during labor. Davon assured me that her role was to also support my partner. However, with Davon not being in person that support was lost with her being virtual. After delivery Davon sent her back up doula the day of my labor to get my placenta. During the postpartum visit Davon answered our questions and we talked about our labor/delivery. She looked at the baby's latch but, didn't provide much advice other then mentioning that the latch was good. She coached my partner on ways she could support my postpartum experience with nutrition and taking on more responsibilities to allow me to focus on the baby and my healing. Davon encouraged us to reach out as needed but as first time parents we really didn't know what we needed. I absolutely loved having Davon for my doula. I came across her yelp page at 40 weeks and 3 days pregnant (first time mom), desperately seeking comfort and guidance. We were on the fence about hiring a birth doula because of the expense and uncertainty around the exact benefits a doula would provide us. We decided to go for it, though, because we had no local family support and also thought a doula would help us achieve our goal of having a natural, unmedicated birth. Where do you even begin when the gift given is beyond words? We started our search for a Doula because we felt undervalued and unseen during our prenatal journey, often getting quickly moved through appointments, reintroducing ourselves to new providers and feeling like we needed to know all of the questions to ask during our appointments to prepare for the next phases because information was not readily available or provided. Additionally, as a queer couple, we found that both verbal and non-verbal language used in our appointments and within care was not always inclusive or representative of the multitude of family systems that exist. When we met Davon, it felt like we had reconnected with a friend that became family long ago. She immediately took the load off of us, and normalized our experiences and where we were in our journey. She took time to walk with us at our pace to ensure we understood what to expect as pregnancy progressed, our options at each interval and created a plan that felt individualized and best for our family. By being informed of our options, we were also able to think through, in advance, what we would want should our ideal plan need to adjust. We chose to receive support virtually due to the limitations of support persons allowed in delivery. With that being said, it felt as though Davon was with us every step of the way. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Recommended by a doula friend, I reached out to Davon on very short notice at 38 weeks, and she responded quickly and we clicked after a very serendipitous first meeting. We had a second, (extremely helpful) prenatal check-in a week later, which ended up being the evening before my daughter's birth at exactly at 39 weeks. Davon checked in on me via phone throughout the early labor, until it was time to meet at the birth center. By then, contractions had become overwhelmingly intense, but I felt immediate relief when she arrived. She tapped in and shifted the whole ambiance in a way that was both gentle and powerful. She poured me a nice bath, which was exactly what I needed to relax and prepare for the natural water-birth that came a few hours later. My daughter's birth was truly an awesome experience! Davon balanced the physical discomfort with moments of bliss in between contractions by feeding me water, honey and encouragement. She worked very harmoniously with the other birth professionals and everyone else in the room. My mother, who was also SO impressed with Davon, observed her ability to intuitively know exactly when and how I needed touch. Each birth is so unique but she carries an archive of knowledge through her own diverse experiences giving birth, and she deeply understands the hypersensitivity of a woman in labor. She massaged my legs as they cramped up, fanned me for hours and reminded me to breath between contractions. Anytime I wanted to give up, her words would conjure my strength and guide me through. My mental space got fuzzy as labor progressed, but I remember her grounding presence by my side the entire time. She was incredibly generous in customizing a full package that added exponential layers of wisdom, and beauty into the birth ceremony, all while I was in a financially limited position. She was everything I needed and fulfilled my birth vision of a spiritual and sacred experience. I would highly recommend the yoni steam and "Closing of the bones" ceremony as part of your postpartum care, because they really helped mentally and physically process all the magic and healing that took place through the birth. My bleeding stopped within a couple of days afterwards, and I am convinced it was the work of the yoni steam and closing of the bones. I had a great experience working with Davon! Although I did not work with her for doula services, it is something I plan on finically saving for during my next pregnancy. I worked with Davon in placenta capsulation. We met half way through my pregnancy to go over any questions I may have and she has such a warm and inviting presence. Unfortunately I was not able to encapsulate my placenta after my delivery due to health reasons she still came to the hospital to visit with me and give me other options on what I could do with my placenta that did not involved ingesting it. We found Davon after deciding to use a birth center instead of a hospital and they required a doula for first time moms. From the moment I met Devon at our meet and greet I knew she would be a great fit for my birth journey. She struck the perfect balance of a practical/spiritual vibe I was looking for in a doula. I was early in my pregnancy when I hired her and she made herself available in case I had any questions or concerns come up. Even though my labor & delivery experience turned out different than I expected-Davon was there for me to offer me support and process the change in plans which ended up being a csection. I was most grateful for Davon's support postpartum. She helped facilitate breastfeeding in the recovery unit at the hospital following the csection. It was such a pleasure to have Davon as our Doula for our first baby. The moment we had our initial Zoom meeting, I knew we were going to hire her. Ok so let me start out by saying I love Davon and Ive gained so much just from having her as my doula. Ive gained knowledge, Ive gained a friend, I found strength that I didn't know existed within me and much more. So initially my midwife recommended I get a doula mnths before my due date and I was just really uninterested in getting a doula, honestly im glad that I didn't because I probably wouldn't of even met davon. I waited really last minute to try and get a doula. I was a week away from my due date and davon took on the roll of being my doula even though it was cutting it very close. We did our visit and she got everything done in one visit. She was so supportive with what I didnt want and what I did want. She even made my bf who was against me getting a doula change his entire outlook on doulas. So I ended up going over my due date by a week. Between those two weeks of us meeting and my due date I was constantly asking her questions about things that I didnt know, and she was so helpful with that. Ok so now we're at the point where my water breaks this is my first pregnancy so im nervous idk what to do. Davon was very informative and she was knowledgeable she knows her stuff! She helped me by telling me what I should do while keeping my birthing plan in mind and being supportive of that. Ok so shes at the hospital with me and im having contractions.... she changed the atmosphere to how I wanted it she made it so easy for me to relax.
