There are many options for shark diving on the North Shore…read more One Ocean Diving seems like they are committed to the shark conservation, research, and education. You sign up online. With the times, if there are not enough they will consolidate times. We were signed up for 10am but got moved to 8am. You meet at Haleiwa docks near the blue hut (see photo). They provide mask, snorkel, and fins. You should bring a rash guard or wetsuit. The ride out is about 15 mins and as is typical in Hawaii, water can be choppy so you might get a little seasick. They give you instructions on the boat. Once there you hang on to a rope on the side of the boat and they take you individually to dive down closer to the sharks. We got lucky because there were tiger sharks (see photos). The cost is about $150 person but I would recommend paying some additional money for the go pro. You really want some documentation of what you did and saw. It's $50 for 2 people. They also have $250 option for photos and go pro but I think the go pro was enough. The people were really good and it was a great experience for all of us. Strongly recommend.

I like to find an adventurous thing to do for each decade of my birthday. In my 20's it was…read moreskydiving, and my 30's, it's shark diving. I had such a fun experience with Ocean Outfitters! We lucked out with perfect wind, water, and sky conditions, which made the whole trip incredible. The ride out was 10-15 min? Getting into the water was easy. Water was great! Though there weren't many, we did manage to dive next to a Galapagos shark, a jellyfish, turtle, and eagle ray (this guy was in port tho). Lilly and the entire team were so helpful and accommodating the whole time. They were fantastic about answering all of our questions and really made the process of getting in and out of the boat less stressful. I will say: you will need to have decent strength to hoist yourself out of the water from a small solo step on the boat (they help but keep in mind for my fellow limited bodied folks). On windier conditions, you will have to be a decent swimmer, too. So those not familiar with the ocean, practice at like Waikiki or hanauma bay first. We had someone swallow water on our boat and we had calmer conditions, too. I honestly wish we could have been in the water for longer, but I'm just looking at it as a great excuse to book another trip and head out again! My favorite part was actually the ride back in: the crew picked up some speed and took some fun turns, which I really enjoyed. Everything was set up to be convenient, too. They provided all the snorkel gear, including flippers and masks, and there is a cubby under the seat to keep your items safe, dry, and out of the way. Parking is readily available, so you don't have to worry about that. Just a heads up on the media side of things: they do offer professional photo packages, which run about $80 to $100. You are allowed to bring your own GoPro, but they are pretty specific about which models you can bring due to concerns about radio wave interference, so it's worth double-checking with them beforehand. Overall, it was a fantastic day out on the water with a good crew.

Booking the experience was extremely easy. We were rescheduled due to Hurricane Lala and they made that easy for us as well. Our outing was set for 6am so we arrived 30 minutes prior. There was ample parking and restrooms at the dock. We loaded up and were promptly out at 6am. The captain and first mate explained all the safety rules and where we were heading out to and the types of sharks we may see as well as stopping for dolphins. They took us out about 3 miles from the dock. Snorkeling equipment was provided if you do not have your own. They also offer to film your dive for you for an extra $75. The videos are given to you to add to your phone as soon as you are heading back too. You are able to walk around the boat at one point to take photos and if you are feeling seasick they do explain what you can do going and coming back. We were down in the cage for a good 20 minutes and then we made the trip back. At the dock you can purchase additional souvenir shirts and hats. All in all this experience was so amazing and would love to go again.

Because they were late to pick us up, they seemed a little rushed, telling us we needed to make sure we were quick and rushing us into the water. I get that they were behind but it wasn't our fault. The water was very, very rough. Which is not the boat's fault either, but just a warning to others. I have heard sometimes it's super calm so I am sure it's likely time of year, but when we went it was bad. Almost every single person got seasick. Also, when you go in the cage, it's almost worse for the seasickness. You are getting tossed around badly inside that thing. We actually had to hold on pretty hard. We were given some cool facts about the sharks and the waters, but it was like 5 minutes worth. We wish they would have talked with us a little bit more. Also, they were very thorough with instructions regarding safety of the cage, which is great. They gave no instructions about the mask and snorkel. I guess they just assumed everyone understood, but we had one guy get in the water and asked how to use the snorkel. I guess overall, when compared to other boat tours we had went on in Hawai'i, this one just doesn't compare. They provide no drinks or snacks (which again is okay, but for the same cost on another boat we were given them). Seeing the sharks was super cool; I just don't know if it was worth it.

One of my best friends and I went on the 7AM trip, 8/28/26, with Caleb and Jax. It was my friend's…read morefirst time visiting Oahu, and it was an amazing experience. Can't recommend this enough. One of our most favorite activities for the week; we couldn't stop talking about it! We had initially booked for a 6AM which was cancelled, so we switched to the 7AM, no problem. Highly recommend going as early as possible, as the currents only become stronger as the day goes on. I do not recommend this trip if you're prone to seasickness, as it's rough out there offshore and you're bobbing in the water on the boat and inside the cage. I made sure to apply my scopolamine patch the night before, so it could take effect for the trip. It was a small group of 6 total on our trip, which meant we could all maximize our time in the water, which we appreciated, since it's 6 in the cage at a time. I also appreciated how crew prompted us to rotate sides in the cage at times, so we could all experience the different vantage points. I would have otherwise been apprehensive about going into the water with sharks, but this was truly a unique and exciting experience. Where else are you going to be able to do this?! Caleb and Jax reviewed procedures with us and were very safety conscious. I had no concerns about being out there. Hold on tight to the cage! The current will push you into the cage or into your neighbor at times, but it was all good fun. My friend was the last one into the cage and was a little hesitant at first, wanted to make sure her snorkel gear fit properly, etc. Staff were very attentive to her, and we greatly appreciated that. Bring a camera and you can get some sick footage of the sharks (they also have GoPros to rent for $50). I'm still editing all my videos! We lost count of the Galapagos sharks we saw. Seemed like up to 6 at a time, and they'd be arriving from all directions. Beautiful, sleek, curious creatures. The shark "tip jar" on board was hilarious! Highly recommend Hawaii Shark Encounters to anyone visiting Oahu! We really appreciated the staff's care and focus on safety, while making it a once in a lifetime experience.
