You'd expect that the chains like Big Y and Stop & Slop would have economy of scale advantages, but apparently not. So far, we've found the quality perfectly good, the place large and clean, and plenty of deep discounts (pork roast for $1.99/lb? Ten pounds of local potatoes for $2.99/bag?) of useful staples. They use the 'Best Yet' in-house label that Fosters in Greenfield uses, as well as sharing a couple other local vendors -- for instance, they have the same discount local brand of spices that Fosters and The Barn uses, however much labeled 'Food City' instead. The only fly in the ointment, so far, is that the bakery selection is meagre, and often not very good. As against that, they've got a pizza operation that's just plain outstanding, the best pizza I've had yet in the county, and often the cheapest: just the other day was twice now that I've gone in for a large (16") pizza and found it sale priced at $10 even. I wish I knew about these prices the last three years, because I would've done my grocery shopping here instead of in Greenfield.

An actual Diemand in the Rough (pun super intended, but totally over…read moreused, and I don't care) First and foremost, I'm a BBQ reveiwer, this place is traditionally a family turkey farm (pretty sure anyways) and they make the absolute BEST TURKEY AND CHICKEN POT PIES EVER!!!! They also have a bunch of other goodies for sale in their farm store. That being said, BBQ! I very randomly stumbled upon this place while attempting to get lost in the middle of Massachusetts one day. And I stopped in and grabbed a frozen pie to go and heard about this amazing cook out they do every other Monday from like June through August? Maybe September? Gotta check the schedule anyway. So you can go online to their website, click on the Smokehouse Dinners, chose one of their meal plans ( I believe it's Ribs, Chicken, Sausage, .... and one more thing, let me check ... OMG! They changed the Menu!!! Now it's a choice between Ribs, Chicken, BRISKET! OR A TURKEY LEG!?!?! I have To Go BACK NOW!!!) and they come with a cube cut of Awesome homemade corn bread (the ones with the kernels still juicy in the bread!) slice of watermelon, and all you can drink Ice tea and Lemonade, and your choice of 2 sides. Mac and Cheese (good old how grandma use to make it style!) Corn on the cob (oh yes!) I think they had a celery salad and a potato salad maybe? But now they offer roasted butternut squash! I loved my ribs, they weren't as big as I'm use to but they were cooked perfectly. I can tell a lot of love went into the smoking process. My partner had the chicken, it was a 1/2 smoked chicken smoked to perfection as well. So, this place is just a real gem of a place. It's almost like even though you bought a $20 ticket to be there, it feels a hell of a lot more like your friendly neighbors sent you an invitation to their fun backyard BBQ. They had a local string band playing traditional Irish and American tunes. We were all under a canopy tent with picnic tables. We chilled for awhile listening to the music, meeting the locals, watching the sunset over the mountains and all their cows in the fields, just sippin on some cool iced tea and lemonades while they put the finishing touches on the food. I was kinda disappointed they didn't have someone ringing a triangle when the food was ready. And afterwards they had Barts Ice Cream selling small little cups of only 3 of their flavors, I think $4 a cup? It was a very small portion and only 3 flavors, but I guess we were lucky to have even that, It's just one person who has to drag a cart all the way behind the house. You can go inside the farm store and they have some baked goods and some ice cream sandwiches and other yummy things. They brought they're pony or donkey out to say hi to everyone. All their cows came right up to the fence and started eating the piles of corn husks and we got to feed them and pet them too. It was just such a great evening with good people and such a small town welcoming kindness that's getting harder and harder to find now a days. Love the place, love the food, love the people. Awesome!!!

I went int to look for a restroom in this here barn like structure and as I did a worker came out on her break, recognized I was not a local and said hi, "and if you are hungry, we have lots of things to get. She was leaving from the kitchen apparently as she was pleased with the cool weather. She was very sweet and friendly and so I did look around. As I entered it smell like fresh warm food, better than more fast food highway chains, It was set up with on area typical aisles of a convenience store, to the other side was hot shelves as in a grocery deli with sandwiches, pizza slices and myriad of other wrapped and choice of warm or cold options. There was a historical display of photos on the wall of the Millers Falls area. There was a "toy and stuffed animal " display for those traveling with children, there was a wall of counter space with seating if you wanted to eat in rather than your car. The place was immaculate, a gentleman constantly keeping the floor and counters clean for the next customer. The checkers were quick and friendly. They were located near the kitchen and it did smell delicious. Our bacon, egg, cheese on a biscuit, as nice and fresh as homemade and no wait, just self serve off the hot bar. My husband bought some items from the convenience area and we read through the history posters and headed out, car full of gas and us with a warm sandwich to recharges. And absolutely the nicest people you would ever want to meet on a trip with such a stop.

I don't know what that the guy that said the produce "STINKS" is talking about. Rating: 4/5 The seafood section has a decent selection, but I'll admit it could have a bit more to offer. Rating: 3/5 The bakery also seems to be slightly limited in places, but the quality of what they have is very good. I just wish they still had tiramisu. Rating: 3/5 The meat section? Very nice selection of various cuts of meat. And thankfully they sell lamb there as well, something even the nearest Wal-Mart Supercenter doesn't even sell. Rating: 5/5 As for the rest of the store? They have a pretty good selection, but I feel that they don't have a big enough selection. While the pet food they sell has the right flavors my cat likes, the rest of the store seems to miss the mark when it comes to the aisles (especially the frozen foods section) of other supermarkets. We have seen the television ads for Cha's and stopped for a much needed break after nearly 5 hours behind the wheel. What surprised me when I walked in was the size of the place. On the north side of the store are all the alcohol coolers, the south hade grocery items, their food service counter and dining area, and restrooms. The cashier counter is nearly in the middle. Had I just ran for a tasty beverage, the rating be higher, but... I used the restroom. Two things right off the bat, there are only two unisex bathrooms. One was occupied so used the unoccupied one closest the south entrance. I don't know when it was last checked or cleaned by the staff, but it was filthy. There is a toilet and nearby a low urinal. There was piss all over the floor by the urinal and it ran on the floor to the front of the toilet. There was toilet paper all over the floor like someone had cleaned up the floor in order to use the toilet. Next while I do appreciate the use of hands free sinks and soap dispenser, you have to keep the soap dispenser loaded with soap. Also the only way to try the hands was blower, paper towels not an option. Second issue with the visit- the food. Their advertising touts their pressure fried chicken. The hot chicken sitting in the food service area looked dehydrated and totally unappealing. I grabbed one of their chicken salad with cranberry wraps and a bottle of the new Sprite+Tea. The we were on our way back to MA. Within 30 minutes of eating that wrap, it came back up and not in a good way. By the time we got home an hour later, I was in some serious discomfort. While they have great TV marketing, the store falls short on delivering as far food quality and bathroom cleanliness. Too bad.
