This area was once part of the Atlantic Coastal Ridge, ancient dunes that lined the Atlantic Ocean. Part of the trail runs along I-95 and in addition to the cars you may hear the occasional train racing past. Plants you might encounter include sand live oaks, myrtle oak, Chapman oak, saw palmetto, slash pine, sand pine, bromeliad, prickly pear cactus, marsh ferns and cinnamon ferns and the invasive Brazilian pepper. When I came upon the pink and yellow lantana growing in the back of the preserve it was covered in zebra longwing butterflies. If you want to see the blazing star (Liatris), with it's stalks of purple flowers that the area takes it's name from you will have to plan your visit for late summer and early fall. If you are lucky you will see protected gopher tortoises. All I came upon however was a burrow. As you make your way through the preserve you will be serenaded by cicadas and crickets. This is a pretty isolate spot, especially when you get to the back of the preserve. Unlike a lot of other preserves I have visited this one is not paved so it is not wheelchair accessible. It was actually quite hard to even walk in the back but when I came upon a hundred butterflies floating around the plants it made the muddy sneakers and trek worth it. You have to be slow and quiet to fully appreciate this area but once you focus in a lot of surprises await you.

The entrance/parking area is small but there is always a spot to park; actually, it's rare to see any cars here at all. Theres a bench to sit and watch nothing... There is a bike rack... There is an informational board mounted on a tiny building; perhaps a storage shed or sorts)... And there is the entrance to the trails.... That's basically what the park offers... trails that meander through a protected 12 acre parcel of land... lots of cabbage palms and pine trees... And there is a bit of wildlife to ooh and ahh at (if you find them)... the wildlife includes all the typical South Florida wildlife but have heard fox are present but Ive never seen (and I'd imagine they'd leave the park and put themselves at risk with vehicular traffic and residential communities). One of the reasons I don't love the park (and it's not because they don't offer more amenities), is the lack of accessible paths. The trails through the park are sugar sand (just like the namesake of our neighboring park, Sugar Sand Park)... they get a sprinkle of pine needles that gives the trail a bit of stabilization but for the most part they are exposed sugar sand... just white, soft, unforgiving sugar sand that makes walking a bit of a challenge (like trying to take a jog on the dry part of the beach). It'd be great if the City of Boca Raton would add or mix some shell rock to the paths... it'd make the park considerably more user friendly... or maybe even covering the paths with mulch.

But thats everyday these days in Florida. The course is well taken care of. It's a city park with plenty of other activities going on from cookouts to people jogging to playground stuff. As courses go its got a wide open layout. You can see the hole/basket from the tee box. With the wide open spaces its a very tough course to lose a disc(unless you throw it in the water). Which I did, on the 4th hole. They have 3 water holes and I found the water on one of them. The good news is it was a floating frisbee so I got it back 30 minutes later when it floated into shore. Plantation is definitely one of the better courses in south Florida. It's nice to be on one and feel like you won't lose a disc

We have been here several…read moretimes for the splash pad and connected playground for birthday parties or just on a hot day. The pool has lessons for all ages, lap swimming and a hot tub. The lessons usually sell out, so the morning the lessons open up, arrive early for registration. The admin building also has a large multipurpose room to rent for events at affordable rates. There is a very large parking lot too. The office can also sell beach, boat and dog passes as well. The staff are always friendly and helpful. We have had nice experiences here and will continue to attend events throughout the year.

A popular amenity at Meadows Park is its 8 lane, 25 yard by 25 meter pool with two diving boards. Resident children pay $2 and adults are $4 while non residents pay double. You can also purchase monthly, semi annual, and annual memberships. The Boca Mantas Swim Team trains at the pool and the pool offers swim lessons. Meadows park is also the home of the 1.4 acre Boca Community Garden which opened on October 16, 2021. The garden is sponsored by the Junior League of Boca Raton, Brightline, City of Boca Raton, Community Greening and Tree City USA. Garden plots can be rented by Boca Raton community members from $60 to $110 per plot. Residents can also participate in gardening classes. Inside the garden is a gazebo with seating. There is a new playground being installed that is themed to match the community garden. The garden smelled lovely and I really loved exploring it and getting inspiration for things I can grow in my own school community garden. The garden and pool make Meadows Park a special destination in the Boca Parks and Rec holdings. The park also has a baseball field, sand volleyball court, tennis courts, picnic tables, and grills, and a paved exercise path. The park will be even nicer when the brand new playground is completed. Come out and enjoy all this park has to offer.

Played this course twice now and it's growing on me. We…read morestopped in for 18 holes last weekend. Entry to the park is 3 dollars, tough to beat that. There is actually 2 different courses here here. As you come in to the right is the tradwoods, but to get to the more open(and easier) tradewinds is to the left. It's a beautiful park and it starts with a gentle easy first hole. After that par three to the edge the woods it goes up and back along the side of the lake. Even though those first 8 or 9 holes are along the ater it rarely comes into play. The back 9 slowly works its way into a few holes in woods. It's mostly open holes but even when in the woods its not too difficult. In the end last weekend was one of my best rounds of late. i would like to take credit but I think it's in part to the easier course. I'll take it, and be back soon enough!

It is important to note that the following is prohibited while you are in the park: tobacco products, motorized vehicles, pets including dogs, and alcohol. This park is great for exercise, taking the kids to play, or having a picnic. I was pleased to see that they finally banned smoking. While I enjoyed walking the exercise path amenities are limited so unless you live in the neighborhood you can skip this in favor of one of Boca Raton's larger parks. like nearby Sugar Sand.
