I visited this store twice on my visit to Prescott. Great stuff, great prices. Prescott is lucky to have such a gem of a store.

Ask the Community - Disabled American Vets Trift Store

Trift?? Seems to be spelled this way on purpose but the word trift doesn't make sense used this way so...

As I heard it, there was an older man volunteering for a while. He painted the sign for them and spelled it the way he pronounced it. "Trift" store it has been ever since, as a tribute to the sign painter!

Do they pick large furniture items up? My friend has an older oak entertainment center and wants to donate somewhere.

Yes, they do pick up.

I love, love, love this thrift shop. So glad they're now open Mondays! It was terrible when they…read morewere closed for remodeling. It is my favorite thrift shop in the whole area. Clean, well organized, and best of all....GREAT prices. The prices are very, very fair. I brought my son's girlfriend (age 26) a couple of weeks ago. She found some very cute clothes at a very reasonable price. The staff is great. Very friendly and personable. Parking can be a bit of a challenge when they're busy, but I've not had to wait too long for a space. So far I've bought two dog beds, dog steps (only $5.99 - the ladder was broken but my husband glued it back together and it works fine now), women's shirts and jackets, grill spray, 409 cleaner, baskets and bins, books and magazines, and kids' clothes. I go 1-2x a week because they always have new, fun stuff.

It was sad to see the other recent negative reviews and I wasn't able to feel the exact same way…read moreuntil I just went. I used to enjoy coming here to shop--what happened? The cashier (taller guy, long hair--receipt says Corey/Cotey?) was very unfriendly in his tone throughout the checkout process and at the very end proceeds to ask, "what's in that?" Accusing me of stealing items, and justified his Q by saying, "it happens." It was a lunch box with snacks for my son as we shopped. I wouldn't have given much thought to either of these interactions on their own, but because the whole experience was negative, I feel the need to share it. It was also strange when I went last Friday at 10 am and the doors were closed. Phone went straight to static. A lot of people walked up to locked doors and were confused as to why there wasn't a sign stating they were closed. A woman told me that she had a lot of valuables to donate and will be going elsewhere. Sad! I hope someone will see these reviews and actually make changes, rather than just respond to the review itself. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back to shop or donate anytime soon. I will continue going to St. Vincent de Paul, where I've had nothing but a great experience and interacted with only kind employees/volunteers.

But she did warn us that this locations often times inflate their prices, in which she nicknamed "greed-will". The day we arrived, it was snowing and a little windy. Definitely a cold winter day and not the best idea to forget your snow boots at home, in California. Anyways, with any thrift store, you just have to look and see if you find anything good or anything you are looking for in particular. There was a nice pair of black snow boots with little wear on it but was surprised to find that the pair was $25 at the register, as the item was not marked. I paid less for my new boots that I had purchased online (and my shoes were even thicker quality). But my friend did get a 20% off since she is a senior citizen so we were able to get a slight discount to save a little bit off (although later on I found out that there was a hole on the soul and really should have gone to purchase brand new show shoes... oh well, lesson learned... don't leave your snow shoes at home while on a road trip, during winter). We did purchase other items, which did seem better priced. So I am not sure what is the mindset of the prices marked in the store. Some toys and books that I saw were brand new and priced very cheaply (which I did ended up purchasing a few things) and then some items, like clothes were heavily marked up when clearly those items were worn. But just as my friend had told us, she has found plenty of great stuff at this Goodwill before and will often browse. And if she finds something that she wants, and if it is at a good price, she will purchase it. I think if we lived in this area, most likely I would come back to browse since I do like to thrift for my DIY projects from time to time. Please note that on the receipt, there is a 7 day return policy. But customers will only receive store credit that is good for up to one year, based on the date printed on the original receipt. If you return items without the purchase receipt or tag attached, you will only receive $1. Also returns are not accepted on discounted items, new or seasonal items. So purchase wisely.

Coats are priced at $14.99 and up, denim jeans at $16.99 and up, and many items are nothing special. These are USED clothes that Goodwill received for FREE, yet they're being priced as though they're being sold at a regular retail store. It's outrageous, especially for a store that is supposed to make secondhand shopping affordable. But as terrible as the prices are, the employees are by far the worst part of this location. The atmosphere is hostile, unwelcoming, and extremely uncomfortable. Based on my experience, I found the treatment of customers discriminatory, and I have serious concerns about the way people are treated here. During my visit, the older woman working the register was incredibly rude and aggressive. She didn't bother removing the hangers from my clothing, folding the items, handing them to me, or even asking whether I needed a bag. Instead, she left all my clothes sprawled across the counter and simply handed me my receipt as though the transaction was over. When I told her I needed a bag, she aggressively told me to grab one myself. She then informed me that bags cost extra, something she hadn't bothered mentioning or asking about before completing my transaction. At that point, I was left to remove the hangers, fold my own clothes, and gather my purchases myself. Her tone was unnecessarily loud and confrontational, practically yelling for no apparent reason. I also witnessed her interacting rudely with other customers, so this clearly wasn't limited to my transaction. There was absolutely no reason for such hostility over a simple purchase. Basic customer service should not be too much to expect. The store itself is also poorly managed. The shoe racks are almost always empty, and employees constantly leave rolling carts blocking the clothing aisles, making it difficult to browse. Between the outrageous prices, lack of organization, and incredibly unpleasant staff, there is very little reason to shop here. Goodwill receives its merchandise through donations, charges customers increasingly unreasonable prices, and somehow still manages to provide some of the worst customer service I've experienced. The least this location could do is treat the people shopping there with basic courtesy and respect. I would strongly discourage anyone from shopping at this location. There are far better places to spend your money where you won't be overcharged for donated clothing and made to feel like an inconvenience simply for being a customer. I will not be returning.
