I have been trying different nail techs so I can find one I love and can stick with and I tried a tech I've never had before. When she first started, she immediately grabbed the clippers and I told her I don't want my cuticles or my nails cut, just pushed back and filed. I was on the phone (which is my own fault), when she was responding and saying she wanted to even them out. I told her I just wanted them filed and I don't mind if they're not the same length. They're close enough. She still was saying they should be cut and was saying "what about these? Just a little to even out and then file?"And pointing to my different fingers, to which I just ultimately said "okay whatever you say I guess, I trust you". Which was entirely my mistake. I should have stood my ground but I didn't want to be difficult or make a scene. She cut all of my nails SIGNIFICANTLY shorter than I was expecting to "even them out". For reference, I have been working on growing my nails out for the past 8 weeks so I could have long nails for Thanksgiving and decided last minute to treat myself to a manicure because to try to avoid biting my nails due to stress. It only got worse. After she had already cut them, much lower than I was okay with, she then filed them into square after I told her to keep the natural shape and that I didn't want them to be shaped in square or round. I just wanted her to follow the natural line of my nails and even out the length. Even then, she made them square and when I asked her to round just the edges because they were way too square and sharp and she made every nail round. She filed so much and so low that my nails are now nubs almost as short as when I bite them. Despite trying not to, I immediately started crying because I could feel the physical discomfort of my nails being shorter than my fingertips for the first time in a long time and she continued on. I don't like to cause scenes, and there was nothing that could be done at that point so it would be pointless to complain so I sat there silently as she continued the manicure. I am so heartbroken, I've been upset ever since I left the nail salon today. Unfortunately nothing can be done and while she did a good job on the actual painting of the nails, she took away months of effort I have made to finally grow my nails out, after I told her what I wanted. While I realize I should have stood my ground, she should have respected what I was asking of her. I also will commend her for fixing one of my nails swiftly and with kindness. However, this experience upset me to the point where I am considering not returning to this salon. I have had my nails done and disliked them before (happens to everyone, nbd) but if someone has long nails and they're telling you not cut them, why are you continuing to push to cut them shorter and then filing so short that there's pain and discomfort? I hope this experience never happens to anyone else who is working as hard as I was to break that habit.

RACISM IS ALIVE AND WELL AT THIS SALON, BLACK CUSTOMERS BEWARE…read more I have been a customer here since around 2019 or 2020. Despite consistently experiencing discriminatory behavior, I continued to return because the wife does my dip nails well and I do not like switching nail technicians. However, the racism my daughter and I endured became impossible to ignore or excuse, and after my most recent visit, I will never return, recommend this business, or give them another dollar. Repeatedly, we walked into Crystal Nails and were completely ignored. There was no greeting and no acknowledgment, while white customers were immediately welcomed and assisted. I have watched staff see me approaching through the front window and then deliberately look down or away as I entered. I have also witnessed this same behavior toward other Black customers while I was being serviced. Meanwhile, white customers were consistently acknowledged, welcomed, and asked how they could be helped. On one particular visit, I walked in and every employee stared at me in silence until the older woman finally said, "What do you want?" That interaction alone should have been enough for me to never return. I stayed away for months afterward and only came back because I was hesitant about changing salons. During my most recent visit, the day after Christmas, the behavior was once again blatant and I had reached my limit. I walked in and every employee except one avoided eye contact and kept their heads down. The youngest employee quietly greeted me, which I appreciated. I told her I had a 2:45 appointment with the owner. The owner looked directly at me while massaging another client and we made eye contact, yet she said nothing. She finished with that customer, approached me, and motioned with her hands for me to show my nails without speaking a single word. I had to say hi loudly just to get a response. Immediately afterward, the staff began speaking in their language and staring at me. Moments later, a white woman walked in and everyone greeted her warmly. The energy instantly shifted to smiles and politeness. The contrast was undeniable, and at that point, I walked out. Three minutes or so later, the owner called my phone and asked if I was coming to my appointment or not? Ignorant yet again! I replied, "I was just in there and that I would not be returning because you're racist." This is not accidental. It is a pattern of racist behavior. It is very clear that Black customers are not welcomed or respected at Crystal Nails. While any business can choose who they want to serve, I choose not to support a business that believes customer service should depend on the color of someone's skin. I truly wish I had left sooner.
