AT&T Internet - Speedtest take using T-Mobile Home Internet.

    AT&T Internet

We have had AT&T Fiber Internet service for 3-yrs paying for 1-Gig of speed. It was a CONSTANT…read morefight with AT&T about speeds, our average speeds (recording with ookla speedtest) we 400-525 Mbps. There were SEVERAL times we'd be watching TV (using DirecTV Stream) and the picture would get fuzzy, in the beginning we though it was the channel but that never fixed the problem. Once we started using Ookla to log speeds, at times we've logged as low as 72.17 Mbps, high 100's was common during peak hours, but AT&T will tell you they don't throttle speeds. I've asked this question probably 20-30 times over 3-yrs, if you don't throttle speeds, then how do you explain a customer that pays for 1-Gig but will see FIBER speeds dropped all the way down below 100 Mbps at times???? Long story short, we had 3-4 techs come out to the house and nobody could explain why we could never get even half of what we paid for speed wise, remember we were paying for 1-Gig (1000 Mbps). In fact, at least (2) of the techs said that 550 Mbps was the fastest we were gonna get on WiFi, that was the answer, hook up to ethernet if you want faster. I finally found out 3-4 weeks ago through digging via AI for hours, that this is a KNOWN problem due to limitations on the cheap routers they use. Because of limitations from the AT&T router Wifi speeds over 550-600 Mbps aren't possible, but AT&T has NO ISSUES selling you 1-Gig of service knowing this!!! I called tech support shortly after and when I locked down the tech about what I had found he "surprisingly" admitted, "yeah, it's definitely misleading I get that." That was it, I had been paying $109 a month for 1-Gig of service that AT&T knows is NOT achievable with the router they provide, but the tech said they basically hide behind the caveat in the fine print, WiFi speeds will be slower than wired. Well no kidding, most people expect that, but not cutting WiFi speeds in half! Here's the kicker for the techs that said speeds over 550-600 Mbps on Wifi aren't achievable, they were partially correct knowing the router can't support those WiFi speeds. I decided to go with T-Mobile Home Internet, OUT OF THE BOX my very first Ookla speedtest came in at 798.12 Mbps!!!! After using the T-Mobile app to properly locate facing the closest T-Mobile Tower (the app shows you), much to my SURPRISE, one night at 11:36 PM EST I got an Ookla Speedtest of 1077 Mbps (see pics) 4-days ago. My speeds over the last week have ranged from 798.12 Mbps out of the box to 947.19 Mbps. I have not achieved over 1000 Mbps since that one read, T-Mobile Tech Support did state that although receiving speeds over 1000 Mbps of more than possible, it is currently a rarity. I'd be HAPPY with 400-500 Mbps, because T-Mobile is ONLY charging me $50 a month with a 5-yr price guarantee. AT&T and their lies can take a hike, what a scam they are running there!! I would like to ask the AT&T techs now if speeds over 550-600 Mbps are achievable via WiFi....or is that just NOT achievable using AT&T Fiber??? One thing that I just REALLY REALLY despised it that 90% of the time when I'd call Tech Support, obviously WITH an issue, I had to hear a sales pitch about switching to AT&T Cellular from T-Mobile and would try to get me to pay $10 a month more for a WiFI extender (I was ALWAYS promised, they would say "I promise" getting the WiFi extender will solve your problems. Yet, I'm sitting 10 feet from the router, so how in the hell is a WiFi extender going to fix my problems, every tech that came out here said that obviously was NOT the issue! But I was promised every fricking time that would solve my problem. It was quite obvious there more effort in trying to sell me more services than fixing my problem. Then again, AT&T knows their WiFi router can't achieve anywhere close to what they sell you, so why not try to get all the money available. That was a big beef with me, you can't provide the service you already sell me, but if I pay you more money each month "YOU PROMISE" that will fix all my problems!! I can say this with certainty, I will NEVER again in my life choose an AT&T product, straight up lying to the customer like I'm the idiot to think I could get anywhere even close to what I had paid for on WiFi. Pretty sad that T-Mobile operates over cellular signals (which can be unstable at times) and right out of the box DOUBLED the Fiber Speeds I was getting with AT&T...I personally feel this should be illegal, when you know as a company your routers aren't capable of those speeds, yet you screw the customer and make the FINE PRINT such that it more than likely will cover your actions. Most customers do NOT know they can check their internet speeds to make sure they're getting what they pay for. Please-Please make sure you check you WiFi speeds, most major companies have customers use Ookla Speedtest (speedtest.net) including AT&T, Frontier, Verizon, T-Mobile, Spectrum, etc....

I called and filed a claim, was told I would hear back in 10 days, no one called, of course, so I filed a complaint with BBB and found out AT&T doesn't care that they damage your property, they will not fix it and basically call you a liar. The so called executive office that called me even said they do not fix tire ruts in yards......like idiot your lost employee parked in my yard , damaged it and I wasn't even the one that was getting the service and now you won't fix it. Seriously it would take some dirt and maybe a half hour to fix! Like are you even kidding me. This place is a joke. Can't even make it right. HORRIBLE COMPANY!

A one hour wait is not uncommon, an a call back from an unknown number that you won't recognize in an age when you don't answer calls from unknown numbers. Beyond dumb. Most devices are fine for 5g connections but occasionally not. Normally you have the option for a 2.4 g connection apparently AT&T decided to merge them making this impossible unless they intervene. Which means days attempting to contact them and no response. Has to be a better solution. Like a human/ humane one.
