Very Greedy company. I tried cancelling my service yesterday. Waited an extended wait time, because they make you talk to someone. No other streaming services does that, you can just cancel by the click of a button. They want you to talk with someone so they can try and talk you in to staying. I have had service for four years now. The rates were constantly going up, for what they call market changes. Yet when you call to cancel all of the sudden they can get you a better deal if you stay. I got tired of waiting yesterday, but wrote in my chat box to cancel my service. After waiting a radiculous amount of time, I responded I expect my service to be cancelled and that I am leaving and I would not be back on to respond. So just cancel my service. Someone did com on line eventually. They saw my request but didn't cancel my account. Instead my bill was charged for renewal of service on a new card I received. They should have not had on file. It had recently changed from Marcus to Barclays and I had to approve the charge as the account had to be reset up. I contacted direct and they refused to refund the amount. After 30 minutes of arguing with the representative she was all of the sudden able to give me a 50% refund. Who also by the way kept trying to give me a better deal to stay. After she gave a 50 discount on my bill she Then disconnected the conversation for no further discussion. I was not able to argue any further. This is a greedy company. Twice the cost of any other service. They have lost a customer forever. You can bet I will spread the word!!! My internet is next to cancel. I have same company. read more

It sounded far-fetched, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. 10/24 - As anticipated, no response. Called again and spoke with Sierra who again, was of no use. I asked to AGAIN speak with a supervisor. After waiting for 1 hour 27 minutes (stupid me) with her coming back on the line every so often to assure me that the supervisor was coming, she disconnected the call. I guess that was her way of letting me know that a supervisor wouldn't be coming after all. Right back at you AT&T/DirectTV. Chose AT&T as a provider for Internet and they rolled in DirectTV Stream. Only stayed there for a year. Turned all of my equipment in as told to do so by AT&T. However, DirectTV informed me that I had to purchase the box for TV and still had to pay the balance. Believe that this is wrong. Be careful of this situation or if you might not retain this service for more than a couple of years or will move within that time frame. read more

I just bought a new home and called Direct TV to move my service, which it advertises is free. Then I was told I'd be gouged $199 for the move. When I complained the "customer service rep, who could barely speak English, said I would have to pay "only" $49.99, which. Of course, is not what AT&T advertises. I reluctantly agreed. Now I received a statement that I'd get a $50 discount and have to pay "only" $149. I will probably cancel and go to Dish Network after 14 years with Direct TV. It is stunning that a company could provide such awful customer service. All I want to do is return a receiver is was shipped in error and get the Genie receiver I wanted. Each person I spoke with was speaking English that wasn't their native language making it hard to understand my request. As of now, they will send me the Genie but I have to pay $300. What!! They sent me the wrong receiver and I have to pay to correct that? I've also been on their Facebook page with no results there. read more

Absolutely the worst "customer service" of any company I've ever encountered. My father is terminally ill and confined to his bedroom. He has had Direct TV in his den and kitchen for years but called on Feb 13 to have a cable box installed in his bedroom so he could watch TV. A Feb 17 installation was set up. My dads credit card was charged. We waited all day. He so looked forward to having a TV in his bedroom as he hasn't been able to watch TV for over three weeks. Direct TV stood him up. After over 30 minutes on hold when I called them I found out that someone at Direct TV had cancelled the order. No one there knows who did it, or why. I tried for two hours and went through 5 calls and 5 agents to try to get someone out to Dads house the next morning. They told me the 23rd was the earliest they could come. Then got someone who said a cancellation had opened up the 20th. I continued to call and finally got a man named Bob who promised me they were now scheduled for the next morning, the 18th. No one showed. Two more hours of phone calls with nasty, belligerent "customer service" people and technical people. Several agents promised to call us back and "escalate" Dads installation. No one has ever called back. Later call to them I was told again that no one could come until the 20th between 8:00 AM and noon. No one in this company knows what customer service means, or cares. Now that AT&T has bought them, I expect they'll just get worse, if that's possible. They're all too big to care about the customer that pays their exorbitant pay checks. If I could give less than a one star review, I would. DirectTV installed out cable on Dec. 15th and came to install internet on Dec. 20th. The tech tole my husband to disconnect Cox, so he called and cancelled Cox service. The DTV tech removed all of the Cox hardware and installed DTV, only to find out there weren't 2 clean lines outside at the DTV box to be able to bring ATT internet service INTO the house. Tech left and said someone would be out later that afternoon to finish. Nobody showed. LIE#1. My husband was on the phone with customer service in the Phillipines for HOURS on the 21st, 22nd, and 24th. The best they could do was to scheduleule a work order for someone to come out to dig up the lines on Dec. 28th (that's today). NOBODY is coming. LIE#2. After being on the phone with customer service in the Phillipines and on the mainland for over 2 hours today, now they're saying they can finish on January 31st. Oh, and the weather affects the satellite and causes the picture to freeze when it's raining, too. We moved to Pensacola last July, so this is for installation in Pensacola. Do Not Order DIRECTV and if you have them leave as soon as you can. I found out the hard way that if you accept their discount (you know that $10 off on your receive account, or whatever BS discount they are offering) you are automatically committed to another 12 months on your contract. Yes, folks that is right your 24-month ungodly contract becomes a 36-month contract. If that isn't bad enough if you want to escape their crappy customer service (which appears now that AT&T has it comes out of one of the phone banks in the far Pacific) you'll be tagged with a $20 plenty fee times the number of months left on your contract. OK so my advice is stay away from AT&T and DirecTV, I know it's a sad thing to say but you are better off using the local cable provider. Wish I could have given this company a negative 3. read more

BE AWARE! First let me say, this review is NOT reflective of the tech support team (employees in the trucks) here in Pensacola. In fact, I feel confident that Field Supervisors, Joe Fink and Mike Franklin did everything they could on multiple occasions to get my system to work but were unable to do this. That being said, if you are considering DIRECTV service or any satellite service you may want to consider the following things I learned and experienced with my contract period with DIRECTV: *Your service will NOT work in thick cloud cover such as a thunderstorm DISPITE what they may tell you (even if you change the resolution settings, as they will suggest you do when you call in with this issue).*If you have more than 4 TVs in your home you will HAVE to have another HD receiver box of which you will pay MUCH extra for, not to mention that EVERY TV in the house will have a outlet fee of around $5.00 or more for EACH and will need additional "client" receivers *If you add or upgrade equipment such as a receiver or "client" they will start your 2-year contract all over again! It will RESET your agreement date. *If you want to see recorded TV from additional receivers other than the main "Genie", which are supposed to share programing, you may find like I did, that you may run into a networking issues causing your recorded programs to freeze while you are watching it and may not get to see the entire show. (This was VERY frustrating). DIRECTV was UNABLE to fix this problem after nearly 20 visits to my home over the 2-year period I had them. I spent a LOT of time wasted having to be home while they tried to correct issues over the 2-year period I had them. *They have NO local offices in most locations! You will have to do everything by phone, Internet and by mail unless they have repair items and purchased equipment items on the service trucks. *If you have built in DIRECTV (RVU) receivers inside your newer TV, it doesn't work well with the Genie like it is supposed to. (This equipment is called "RVU" and you may find it listed as a feature on your newer TV and supposed to allow networking without an additional receiver for that TV). We had to go ahead and install "clients" on each additional TV in order to network. I have several Samsung TVs that have this newer equipment feature built in but it proved useless). As I said earlier, you are going to pay a fee anyhow for each TV so better to go ahead and have a "client" receiver on each additional TV that does not have a primary receiver if you want decent reception with noticeably less problems. - All in all, aside from the items I mentioned above, I DID like the remote and how DIRECTV is navigated. Though the optional Harmony remote was far superior. They will not however, program the Harmony for you. The DIRECTV system has some function-ability that is superior to COX cable. Another positive is that DIRECTV's receivers (and especially the "clients") are MUCH smaller than those at COX. This is a real plus if your TV is hung on a wall. You can hide the client receiver behind the TV instead of another clunky box on your dresser. Make sure you have the "RF" remotes so that the receivers can see the remote. Regarding overall cost, I found DIRECTV to be really expensive if you wanted several premium channels AND have more than the Genie's 4 additional TV capability. Be aware of the teaser rate in the beginning, but after 3 months you may see parts of your bill going up. The difference here is that DIRECTV requires a 2-year contact and COX does not. You may however get a better rate if you do sign a period agreement with a cable provider. (Not sure about AT&T U-verse) You have to review your bill every 3 months and CHECK your billing statement closely.- Lastly, when I disconnected and sent their equipment back I had a billing credit of $166.50 due to me. I was told I would get that back. Today I got a refund on a Visa Debit Card in the amount of $67.88 (only). I called and they say THEY made a mistake even though the $166.50 IS what was reflected on my final billing statement. I was told I would have to file an appeal online with DIRECTV and they will make a decision whether to pay me or not. I am pissed! As far as I am concerned, this is fraud! Now I will spend HOURS again trying to get my credit of $98.68 that is due. - I now have COX and they are no shinning star either, but unless you go to Air Antenna and start "streaming", it's the only choice we have as AT&T U-Verse is not an option in our part of town and to be honest I'm sure they have their issues too, but they never screwed me out of money that was due in a refund. (Yet) I will be posting about COX CABLE after I give them a chance. If you are a techie or know one, consider streaming TV. I need to do the same. I have been a customer with Direct TV for approximately 14.5 years, I have never been late with a payment and I am so unhappy with their service. I am actively looking for a different company who cares about their customers and will give good customer service. I scheduled an appointment on the 10th or the 11th of January to have a technician meet at my second home to exchange some faulty equipment, mind you I cancelled all my work appointments for that Saturday 1/13/2018 and drove 2.5 hours to get there and waited all day for them. The appointment time was for 12-4p.m., around 2:30 I get a call saying not to worry we haven't forgot you and will be there then i get a 2nd call around 3:40 canceling because of bad weather! First of all it was sunny and cool, no bad weather!!. I told them it was unacceptable and need to come out that day or the first thing Sunday morning and they said they could not take a person off the job on Sunday to accommodate me but could be out on 1/17/2018 which was NOT good for me since I live 2.5 hours away and had to work. No one apologize and asked what can I do to make this better and no mention of reprimanding the tech who blatantly lied! (Saturday afternoon, skipping out early) I asked to speak to a corporate person still no one has stepped up to the plate! I had the worst customer service I could imagine. I had the tech come out to install AT&T wireless, and DirecTV. The wireless went great, however the tech could not figure out the TV portion, so he left the house. Not only that he canceled my order! I called t figure things out and of course I could not get someone that spoke English well enough to figure things out, yet they kept asking for my social security number! Really, I work in cyber security I am not giving my SSN out to a strange person on the phone. So I hung up and went to the online chat, it took an hour and a half due to switching back and forth from tech services to sales. Sales could find my account they said I need techs to install, tech could not find my account, they said I needed sales to set it up, yet my internet was working just find. I disconnected. Its the July 4 and they decided to pull our local CBS channel from our lineup -- some garbage about Nextar wanting too much money -- this is after they've already pulled the local NBC station. I have had Directv in other places and they have been better than average. I just signed up on two recommendations. (1) HOA told me DirecTV is dependable compared to the others. It didn't hurt to see nothing but DirecTV and Dish in the yards of my neighbors. (2) And the sign up fee was $1.00 because I qualified. Direct t.v I would not recommend. We started off with at they said they could connect to where the old dish was. My mom is 81 years old so the service teck came out and said they could not connect at the same place. So he assured us if we paid 99 dollars he would hook us up with wireless so we would not cancell and go back to dish. Well guess what we have three boxes only two rooms can run off of. Call today to see how much it would cost for the fourth room they want another 99 dollars and twenty dollars a moth. They are nothing but scammers. I have never received such poor customer service with any company like I have been receiving with DIRECTV. It all started when I called in to attempt to cancel my services due to budgeting issues for my family. During the phone call I was never informed about the termination fee I would later come across. When I attempted to login to pay my final bill and obtain directions on how to return my equipment my account had been closed out already and my login did not work requiring me to take 20 minutes to contact DIRECTV to have this reinstated so that I could do my part. Once my account was finally reinstated I noticed it was $427 final bill. I called DIRECTV and was informed that that was in fact the termination fee that I would be required to pay if I wanted to end doing business with DIRECTV. However, if I had been informed of this at the time that I called to terminate services I would've continued my services with DIRECTV but I was not informed! After approximately another 30 minutes I was told my only option would be to reinstate service with DIRECTV and continue my contract which I agreed. However, once I was informed what my new bill would be I came to the quick realization that it was much more than I had originally started at when we began service with DIRECTV. They informed me that because I had canceled service and then had to reinstate service (approximately 2 days had went by), I was no longer eligible to receive the promotional price that I had initially. This is where I started to get extremely upset because again this was not my wrongdoing but the customer service woman I'd initially spoke to by not informing me of the large fee I would be receiving if I decided to cancel service. I then began to dwindle down my service to try and create a more budget friendly monthly payment. Prior to attempting to cancel my service with DIRECTV I had over 215 channels and four TV boxes with DVR and ended up with two TV boxes the DVR and basically what you would call antenna channels. I was told if I returned the DVR box I would have to pay for new equipment so my family was then expected to pay $60 a month for two TV boxes, antenna channels, and a DVR. I was told that DIRECTV would try to "help me out" by possibly offering me promotional's and I was again transferred to a new department. The gentleman told me he could not and ended up transferring me to the loyalty and retention department where I spoke to a lovely young lady that understood why I was upset and sent my issue to the escalation department. However, after having my phone attached to my side (because I was informed if I missed the call or did not answer they would not leave a message, not call back, and would close out my issue!!!), I received a phone call from the Escalation Department the following day and to my dismay the call was dropped before I could give my name. Nobody attempted to call me back so I yet again attempted to call back DIRECTV by contacting the loyalty retention department where I had to repeat my story again and received no compassion towards what had happened to me. That call was also magically dropped and no one attempted to call me back. I yet again had to call in and try and speak to a another female individual who was kind and told me that my issue showed it was still open with the escalation department and I should receive a call back and if not to call back in another three days. In total I had made numerous phone calls to DIRECTV, been on the phone or online chat for over 4 hours, had three phone calls dropped, transferred 6 times to 6 different departments, and had never felt so scammed in my life. Finally I received contact from whatever department stating that they would reinstate my promotional values and make my bill $71 a month for the entertainment package for the next six months. Which was greatly appreciated. Approximately a week later I received a call from the customer service department that stated they would give me an extra one time $50 off for all of the inconvenience I had faith. Again it was greatly appreciated. However this month when my bill dropped it came out to be $116. I again logged into the online chat option to figure out my issues and was provided information that did not make sense but as much as I could understand it seems I am basically re-paying the $50 off I had received and my promotional deductions had not applied yet because it takes a certain amount of cycles for that to happen. So a lot more I have the runaround I am finding is a common factor with DIRECTV. I am extremely upset on the principle alone and I hope to prevent others from doing service with a company that gives little to no customer care for their members. I strongly suggest trying Hulu live if you are looking for service. There is no contract and their customer service department is excellent! And it's affordable! read more
