    Spacious campsite
    Wes M.

We just finished a 3 night camping trip here and it was awesome. The campsites are very spacious. Not a lot of them offer shade, so you have to get online and look carefully and I recommend using google earth to look. We had a very spacious and partly shaded site. The place is clean and quiet. They offer several playgrounds, a kids wading pool, a very large lake and beach. Basketball, tennis, frisbee golf, beach volleyball, mountain biking. I took advantage of the mountain bike trails and they are well maintained and kept up. This is probably one of our new favorite camping places to go. There is plenty to do in Zanesville if you want to go out on the town. The shower house in the loop we were in could use some updating but other than that we were very happy with our stay at Dillon. YOu can check out Dillon Dam which is pretty cool as well.

    Playground at the camping area.

Stayed here overnight at a dead time of year for a quick get away in one of the cabins. Compared to other places we have vacationed this was a good deal for us. It rained so our options were limited but we enjoyed one of the shorter hiking trails as well as the fire pit. Like others have said the beds are the only bad part. Our cabin had a queen bed and a bunk bed in another bedroom with a roll away cot. The queen bed in cabin #7 was hard and it sagged in the middle. I would still come back again though.

We wanted to rent a cabin and one was available. I was happy to see such a cozy little cabin nestled in the woods with everything we needed for the weekend. The cabins are heated with plenty of sleeping areas. Our cabin had 1 queen bed, 2 twin, and a cot. The beds were my only complaint. They were very hard. They could use an update for the price they charge. The kitchen has a toaster, can opener, coffeepot (with filters) a mixer, bowls, full set is dishes, all utensils, pots and pans, even a cupcake pan. We enjoyed cable tv, a screened in back porch, a grill with picnic table, and a front porch. The place was clean. We will defiantly return again. Out family enjoyed our visit!

Had an amazing experience there only wish the cabins had lake views. Nice place to fish and kayak!

Is there a place to swim?

Yes at the lake. Big beach but not sure I would swim in it.

The trails aren't paved which was nice for our dog and we got to see people riding their horses which was pretty unique! Just watch out for horse poop! We explored the park for a while, taking our time walking around the pond, exploring the fairy garden and just generally taking in the beautiful scenery on a December afternoon. Our dog had a great time. There is also a dog park on the premises which was like icing on the cake for our pup! Lots to do and see! Highly recommend!

Kid K said that didn't bother her, as long as we could do the trail (which is open all summer.) But we couldn't find it. Signage and maps for that are awful. We found the start of the trail, but past that, multiple branches went all over. I will say the main park trail system is well-marked with blazes, and the park map does pretty well with them. But no sign of the fairies. I had hoped we'd at least be able to follow other people since there were so many there for the party, but folks were going to all the other parts of the park too. We passed a mini zip-line area and a forest playground, but the kid wasn't interested, and eventually got worn out and just wanted to leave. So, two stars for the fairy trail portion since it needs more organization. I'm sure if we'd actually found it we'd give it more. But four or five for the park as a whole, which has loads of amenities: shelters, parking, playgrounds, dog park, restrooms (fancy pit ones,) and the mound, which I also didn't see. A big lake and a couple smaller ponds, and wetlands. Oh, well. Maybe we'll try again some other time.

Hebron State Fish Hatchery - Marsh waterfowl hunting area on the east side of property

The hunting and marsh area of the hatchery is a very beautiful place full of wildlife there is also a archery range that is available to the public. The facility is just off the 70 near Buckeye Lake, though presently some road construction requires you to drive a large loop to get there. If you're curious about the hatchery, the education center is a good place to start. There are displays about hatchery operations and some brochures that guide you around the rest of the buildings. The Hebron Fish Hatchery raises walleyes, saugeyes, striped bass, bluegills, and channel catfish. There are sixty-three open in-ground ponds, where you can hike and birdwatch. The fish holding and distribution center has large tanks of fish and the incubation area, where you can see tubes of fish eggs that will make you a little reluctant to eat tapioca in the future. It was an open house event when I visited, so there were several activities for kids including a fishing pond and an archery range. The staff was friendly and happy to talk about the hatchery. I grew up visiting the Nimbus Fish Hatchery on the American River in CA, which collects and raises Pacific salmon and steelhead, but this is a far more modest operation. It's certainly worth a look around, but don't make a special trip from Columbus just to see the place.

The 1.5 mile Hickory Trail, which is the west loop with a trailhead right off the parking lot you can see from the road, is the pet friendly trail. It takes you through woods, up and down gentle hilly areas, near a stream and a meadow, and I imagine it will have some great wildflowers during the spring. The 1 mile Oak Trail is the east loop, with a trailhead available not far from the front parking lot. The two trails have a connector trail so you can also do both. We did most of the Hickory Trail and then connected over to the Oak Trail to go by the Nature Center to see if there was any signage up about when it would be open (not yet - it says to follow the website or facebook page), and then there is a gravel trail that takes you back up to the front parking lot if you choose to go that route, or you can take the Oak Trail back up to the trailhead near there instead. Signage indicates that the main feature of the park is intended to be the nature center, which is not yet open to the public. Though renovations are complete, exhibits are still being developed. It's a very nice building from the 1930s that has some neat architectural features. It has a beautiful location at the edge of the woods and next to a pond. There were some very cute sunflower-style bee homes set up on one side of the building too. It looks like there will be a second large parking lot available near the nature center, as it has been nicely paved, though the lines are not in yet. We look forward to checking out the nature center once it opens!
