I have been wanting to check out the canopy walk at Blacklick for a while now - maybe a couple…read moreyears?! Well, yesterday - a girlfriend, my daughter, and I finally went and had a good time! We enjoyed a hike on the paved trail - I'm not sure how many trails there are or how many are paved, but this was a four-mile trail. It was a nice and smooth trail! If you're looking for calm/quiet hike - this may not be the metro park for you. You hear a lot of noise - cars rushing by, we heard a guy on a PA system not too far away, etc. Also, it could be because of where we parked, but I didn't see many signs for different paths/trails like at other metro parks. We went with the paved one since it was the closest to where we parked, but that's about it. We didn't see any signs for other paths/trails throughout the four-mile hike either. The canopy walk was fun! It was my favorite park of our hike! However, be prepared for lots of steps to get up to the canopies! While I consider myself fairly in shape, I was out of breath by the time I got to the top. For those of you worried about the steps, there is an elevator to get to the canopies as well! We had some cute photos opps and enjoyed our time in the "newer" area. There's a tiny kids area up there too! The only "concern" we had while up there was a tall tree that was swaying. The concern was more for the hikers below - not for those up at the canopies. Overall, we had a fun experience! I would definitely recommend Blacklick Woods Metro Park for a nice change of scenery and for the canopy walk!

We would have left him at home had we known to explore more. It's such a weird thing since all our trails in Dayton are open to dogs on leases. Other then that this is a very pretty and populated park. Lots of options for walking, hiking, biking, running, birdwatching, picnics, and play. The Canopy Walk inside this park is pretty cool to see too. This was pretty cool. Similar to The Wilds in NY, but smaller. There are a lot of stairs to walk up or you can take the elevator. Lots of cool views. We were there mid-morning and didn't see many birds, but they had counted a bunch and the one worker kept spotting more. My son liked the little play area, but was nervous at how tall the fire pole was so he didn't slide down it.

This is a beautiful park with lots of lovely little hiking trails. Apparently the main field area…read moreused to house an amazing pool with a sandy beach-- can't help but think the two could still coexist with the trails around it. ha! You can see the two wooded tennis courts to the left which are the remaining shadow of the pool complex. But anyway, there are lots of beautiful native plants and a little creek with bridge crossings. It makes for a great day hike through the woods with some hills and elevation variation. Don't forget to read all the handwritten messages from years past that are inked onto the community board by the trail entrance before you walk in or on your way out-- poignant vibes.

So we went to Chestnut Ridge Park in Carroll this weekend to take Apollo for a nice nature walk…read more The park is fairly close to us, and absolutely gorgeous. However, we couldn't be more disappointed. They have several long trails through the woods where you've got these gorgeous ridge climbs. Problem is, they don't allow dogs on any of them. They have one small trail called Milkweed, that is dog-friendly. But it was barely half a mile, and a large part of that was just on mowed grass. Once we got into the woods, we loved it, but it was basically over as soon as it began. That isn't nearly enough for a dog or a person to have a nice walk. It's insulting when they have several miles of gorgeous trails they could open up for people like us. I understand some people don't like dogs, and they try to have a place for them to hike. But why reserve multiple trails for these people? They're surely in the minority. Most people like or at least are tolerant of dogs. Yes this park seems to cater to them, when I'm certain most people in or near Carroll have dogs. I wish there was a petition or something we could do to get them to open up a serious trail that's dog friendly. One non-dog trail is enough. Open the rest for those of us who love nature and our pets. Shame on Chestnut Ridge for this bias against dog owners.

This one offers several amenities: basketball court, a nice large green space, picnic tables, and a nice playground and swings area. There's a neat little single kid spinning toy that they can sit in and use their momentum to spin around in too. There are woods on the side of the open space with trails to explore. This is a nice park to come play in or to take a break on your journey down the greenway trail!

This is a great little neighborhood park that I stumbled on while riding the Alum Creek Trail. The…read moreonly access is from the trail and from the neighborhoods- there is no parking lot, though you can park on the street nearby. The address on the city park site shows it on Morse, but it is actually well back into the neighborhood, just off Grinnell Rd. To get there by car, turn off Morse just west of Sunbury Rd., onto Trindel Way. Follow it back to the curve, then park in the short dead-end. There are some fields, ballcourts, a bike rack, a playground, benches, etc. A nice park if you live nearby, and a nice resting point during a ride or walk.

What a GREAT hidden gem, so close to the airport and the burbs of Columbus, but yet so far!! I think more downtowns should have a woodsy area to wander and "escape" a bit from the suburban "grind." Plenty of shops, restaurants, and even a brewery to check out, also apparently lots of fun festivals, but make sure you also wander the winding, wooded walkways, a WONDERFUL way to "get away from it all, right in your own backyard!!

We drove back to the lake and walked some of the trails and then down by the water. The water level was really low so we were able to explore areas that are normally covered in water. This looks like a great family park with a swim beach, basketball courts, story book stroll, play areas and campgrounds.

It has some nice amenities, including a busy basketball court, plenty of green space, picnic tables, a very nice open air shelter, and a great playground set up. There is a smaller 2-5 area, plus a larger 5-12 area, swings, and a tricky moving balance beam. The 5-12 area has some fun towers to climb up and move between using a bridge that was a bit hit with the playing kids. The nearby surrounding area includes wooded space with some bridges over the creek, and it made for a very pretty location - plus some nearby shade in the heat!

There's really no parking except on the streets nearby; the website says there's a lot but I didn't see it. I was there to ride my bike, and it is great for that, and for picking up the trails. To the north you cross a nice bridge and take a short ride through beautiful woods toward Casto Park. Things get more congested after you cross 161. To the south, the trail connects to the Easton area through more great woods meandering near Alum Creek. Definitely a nice addition to the area, but not so much a "destination park."

This is a little park near Buckeye Lake that is 2.5 acres of wetland habitat, and it's a nice stop…read moreif you have children. There's a playground here, with a slide, a few climbable things, a little rock wall, and lots of shady, grassy space to play. Mostly, though, Brooks Park is a good place to walk around and enjoy the scenery. You can stand on a platform deck area that overlooks the wetland and spot the different animals that inhabit it (I saw some fish and frogs). Then stroll along the path on the waters edge to view Buckeye Lake. This is a good spot to stretch your legs and enjoy the nature of this area of Ohio.
