Fortunately, they had an MRI available at another location. However, when I went to see the scheduler to schedule my mom's MRI, that was where we experienced the most disservice. The scheduler assisting us was Sara, and she was the most condescending, insulting, and arrogant person I have ever met. First, she called my mom's name, and I told my mom that I could speak on her behalf to get the appointment scheduled. Sara replied with an annoyed tone, "I need the patient. I have questions for her to answer." I explained that I handle all my mom's scheduling and that she gives me full consent to assist her. Sara responded, "Why do you know all her history?" So, I asked my mom to come up just to get it over with. Then, Sara asked if my mom spoke English, and my mom answered "Yes." Sara responded with an insulting look and said, "Do you speak English... WELL?" My mom pointed to me and said she would tell me if there was something she didn't understand. Then, Sara asked my mom what her primary language was, saying it was needed to arrange for a translator. She continued asking question after question, which both my mom and I answered. Afterward, Sara asked, in a condescending tone, "Are you going with her to the MRI appointment?" I said yes, and she replied, "Okay, because I don't know how good our translators are." Then, Sara said the earliest appointment she had available was on the 28th, which was a Friday. If that didn't work, she had Saturday available. I told her I would prefer Saturday, as I work Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. She responded in a condescending and insulting tone, "No, not Saturday. Erase that. She can only go Monday to Friday because she needs a translator." I explained that my mom understood the language, but Sara insisted, "No, she needs a translator. Forget I said Saturday. She cannot go on that day." I reminded her that I would be accompanying my mom, especially since she had asked if I was going, as she wasn't sure how good the translators were. Despite this, she insisted that my mom could not go on the Saturday appointment. I finally told her to forget it and that we would go with an outside provider who could accommodate us on a Saturday. I don't understand why my mom couldn't go on the Saturday appointment when I can translate for her. It wasn't my mom's first time having an MRI--she had previously had MRIs of her brain and neck. I don't understand why she was making such a big deal out of it. I thought Sara would help us make it work, but instead, we felt mistreated and insulted by her actions and words.

He performs surgery out of Hinsdale Advocate Hospital which is an excellent hospital with an even more excellent staff. Prior to seeing Dr. Kazan, I was told by 4 different neurosurgeons, 2 at Duke and 2 at Northwestern, that I needed a triple cervical fusion. Obviously I didn't accept that or I would not have gone to 4 surgeons for an opinion. Dr. Kazan was finally recommended to me by a friend who seemed to have a similar issue with the same result that I had. Dr. Kazan looked at my MRI that all the other doctors looked at and said to me "you don't need fusions yet, you just have a bone spur." I guess it's about the money for many other surgeons!!! A week later I had my minimally invasive surgery. I had no pain after surgery in the hospital, no pain when I returned home and absolutely no pain since the surgery, which was 4-1/2 years ago. This doctor is all about doing the right thing, not about how much more money and notoriety he can achieve by performing an expensive, unnecessary procedure. I only wish he would be around the next 10 years for when I need another spinal surgery. I would go to no-one else but him.

I've been to three different ENTs over the last twenty…read moreyears, and they all did the same thing: stuck an endoscope up my nose, looked around for 30 seconds, then shrugged and told me to keep using Flonase. On my very first visit to Girgis, Dr. Sam spent more than an hour with me. He ordered a CT scan and a full blood panel (turns out I had a deviated septum and low antibody levels for several strains of pneumococcal bacteria, which no doctor had ever told me, or even tested for). Eventually, when we had the results, he patiently went over everything in detail, and recommended surgery. The surgery itself was very smooth and the recovery was straightforward. Two months later, it has been LIFE-CHANGING. I am breathing better and sleeping better. Before the surgery, I generally needed an antihistamine, a decongestant, and a nasal spray every day. I have not taken any of them--not even once--since the surgery. During the entire process, the whole staff--Dr. Sam, the nurses, the receptionists, and the billing department--were kind, patient, and always available to answer questions. Do not waste time going somewhere else. This is the best ENT you will find in the area.

Being in the medical profession, I tend to be extremely particular about who I allow to touch my body. Rereading the reviews, some dealt with billing, bathroom usage, and other nonrelevant, and specific to ONE person issues. So, here is a lay of the land. First, as you enter the door, at eye level says AUTOMATIC DOOR. i can't tell you how many people I watched struggle to open the door instead of just pushing the button. Upon entering, to the left is the check-in window. There should be a clip board there, but if it is not, it will be placed there quickly. You will be called back twice: first to complete paperwork and then second to go for prep for your procedure. Personally, I do like that everyone introduced themselves and made me feel as comfortable as possible. All my clothing and belongings were placed in a patient bag and then in a locker, which was retrieved by the recovery room nurse. I was NEVER asked for savings or checking account numbers. Your ride home person is given a number so they can watch your progress on a large TV screen in the waiting area. No rules or directives were given regarding their behavior while they waited. I did have to ride in a wheelchair when I was discharged. Now, did I find the curtains adequate for privacy ~ not really, but that was my only issue.

I called 4 or 5 times for 3 weeks trying to speak to someone and I was lied to about getting a call back until I got a survey and I completed it and exposed what happened. I also have a severe headache and pain in forehead when I touch it ever since the procedure at Hinsdale Surgical Ctr. I don't recommend them and I'll never have any procedure there. It's been a year since my outpatient procedure and I still suffer from pain caused at this facility.
