It is great for a nice dinner to sit down and enjoy a meal. We ordered quite a few appetizers and entrees to share as this was our last night here. We started with some raw oysters, smoke fish croquette ($9.50 each), focaccia bread ($9) with artichoke dip ($12), seafood chowder ($30), and the beef tartare ($28). Our favorites were probably the oysters and the focaccia bread with the spread. The oysters were fresh and we enjoyed trying them all. The focaccia bread went great with the spread as the bread was warm and the spinach dip was a nice cool dip to match. The bread was also perfect to dip in the chowder. For the entrees, we ordered a side of green beans ($14), fettuccine ($27|$37), Lumina Lamb Backstrap ($19 per 100g), and the Japanese wagyu ($85 per 100g). Our favorite out of everything was the wagyu. The lamb was delicious but it's not comparison after you have a bite of the wagyu. The Wagyu was cooked perfectly. The meat was not too thick of a piece to cut. The green beans were a great side to go along with the meal. The almonds added a nice crunch to the green beans. Overall, we enjoyed our meal very much. We felt that this restaurant was a perfect way to end our stay in Wellington!

Tables and booth seating are along the left wall, with a large bar taking up the right. They have a great tap list of local/NZ beer, plus cans/bottles, and food. The night I planned to come in I was running a little late, but even though it was close to closing, they let me in and were welcoming. I also had such a fun time meeting brewers from Australia in town for Beervana; it was a friendly place. The bartenders were great, glassware clean, and I definitely would've been back if I had more time.

I even dare to say, the beer here is better than Aus. Maybe that's too bold a statement, but I'm standing by it. Malthouse is the craft beer haven epicenter of Wellington. With over 150 national and international beers, this beer bar hosts the largest range of beer in NZ. A full tap range, staple beers and rotating ones all keep this beer bar "in the know" with its ever changing selection. Behind the row of taps, is "Malty's Wall" with fridges keeping beers cooled at the right temp, ready for tasting and consuming. Many of NZ beers come from small boutique breweries, which make them harder to find outside of NZ, but Malthouse hosts a great focus on local breweries. The menu is a beer bible. I've never seen one like it. It's leather bound and very extensive, filled with beer choices and all the information to accompany such a vast beer bar. Seating is cozy with both indoor and outdoor options. High tables, bar seats, lounge tables as well. With food options, they've got the perfect munchies which compliment beer. Try their famous Ugly Bread. Or the pizza. I'm a strong believer of great beer bars having pizza. It's something about cheesy tomato bread that goes so well with beer. All in all, this place is hands down, great.

In short, I'm giving this a mid-range review because of the service, and because the food was only okay. A bustling Saturday evening, and having only opened recently could be the reason for the not so good service, but I would've thought a month was enough time to iron out the kinks. Initially told the wait would be 45mins for a table of 6, we ended up waiting nearly 1 hour 45 minutes. Normally, I would've left to dine at another establishment, but as I mentioned above, I was very keen to try the food. After checking with the hostess a couple of times (after the initial 45 minute wait), she tried her best to be accommodating by taking our food orders early so they would be ready when we finally sat down. Unfortunately, the food wasn't worth the wait: Ribs with hoisin-lime sauce fell away from the bone as if they'd been paid good attention to, but they were a little dry. Japanese fried chicken- good salt and pepper taste, with slightly soggy coating. Chicken was nice and tender. Bavette steak- nice flame grill char, cooked very well. Fennel Apple slaw- nice, but a little bland. To summarise, the price of food here is great if you're looking to order small plates to share, I don't think the portions of the mains were suited to their higher prices. The food here is decent, but if I had to wait a long time again, I wouldn't think twice about finding somewhere else to dine. As I said above, my experience could be a one off, which is why I've given three stars and not less. In a city with amazing dining options, grill meats beer will need to pick up their game if they are in it for the long haul.i

I came here specifically to have ribs, and I was not disappointed. I had the hoisin sauce, which was sticky and salty, and really good. I also had the onion knots on the side which I've never had anything quite like it. They're like curry flavored battered onions. The one thing I wish I had was some hot sauce for those ribs. Would come back here again, and also recommend for others to try.

What was once a place known for fish tacos is now more of a tribute to American Diner foods like hamburgers, fries, shakes, chicken and waffles. Overall, I really like this place. It's a great hangout spot for groups to bond over nice smashburgers, fries, waffles and fried chicken. Pros: great selection of burgers, fried chicken and a variety of waffles both savory and sweet in options. Con: if I had anything to complain about, it would be the odd liquid nature of the shakes. As an American, I'm used to shakes that are served thick enough at least initially to be eaten with a spoon. With shakes like Snickers bars mixed in, you expect a thicker more frozen shake to evenly disperse the candy bits. The shakes here are more molten ice cream milk in viscosity which is problematic causing the candy bits to all congregate at the bottom. I'm still giving this a 4 out of 5 because I do recommend this place. If they ever redo the shakes to be thicker and more frozen in nature, it would elevate the Americana experience in Wellington even moreso.
