I don't know if I'm being too much of an American w this review in regards to my expectations.
My first night in Madrid I went for a walk on my own. As I passed Diego 8pm on a Thursday it looked like a cool place. There were only 2 people at the bar, I decided to pop in for a beer. I sat and was served the beer quickly. The guy behind the bar appeared busy setting up a bunch of espresso cups, maybe for the following morning? He then went to the back and brought me a piece of tapas, a Spanish tortilla (potato and egg frittata) it was fkn delicious. The guy then goes around the bar to the front, sits and begins watching TV and playing on his phone. I ate the tapas and sipped my beer and too looked at my phone. I noticed a menu off to the side which had a small selection of some good looking typical Spanish fare. I sat, drank, ate and no one ever came back to see if I wanted anything more. Did I want to order something else to eat, maybe another beer, nothing at all. Is this a typical thing here in Madrid? In any event, I asked for the check, I paid and I left.
It wasn't a bad experience, just weird I wasn't asked if I needed anything else. read more
