Nice homey spot in between MAN and Prado. And open on Sunday. In the spirit of thrifty travel, I walked over to take advantage of free Sunday admission at the MAN archeological Museum and then head over to the Prado for their free late afternoon Sunday admission (thanks again to Rick Steves guide book). The MAN is a nice modern building with a decent collection - no British Museum by a long shot, but worth checking out. Not crowded in the least even on the free day. I was looking for a late lunch before heading over to the Prado. There wasn't much to choose from right in the vicinity on a Sunday. The Yelp "open now" filter really thinned the herd this time. Many spots were closed, and others were high end white linen dining. Not much on the tapas list. I chose this based on location and availability but was pleasantly surprised. They have a good sized patio and indoor seating. I had olives and a "Russian salad", which is a concoction of potatoes and tuna with a mayonnaise dressing. Not a life changing culinary experience but good value and just fine. I did head over at the start of the free time at the Prado. Don't bother!! Off the Main Street by a small plaza and I didn't see a single tourist here except me. The staff was helpful and kept advising me that what I ordered was too much for one person. Of course I had to order what I wanted because dining alone on a weekend is hard enough, so I thought I deserved all I wanted. If the fork didn't come with yesterday's food I would give this venue four stars. I was happy to find a restaurant without tourists. They do not have menus or at least didn't offer one to me. So I ordered Huevos rotos and ended up with fried eggs and bacon. Although it wasn't what I ordered the eggs were cooked perfectly, over easy, and the bacon was lightly fried which is my preference. I suggest bringing a photo of what you want to eat. This place does not compare to Malaspina, though. read more

The interior is really cozy and modern at the same time. The wait staff is super friendly... but I was oh-so-not-impressed by the menu del dia. It lacked character and choices. Regular iceberg lettuce salad with cheese cubes, french fries and a grilled chicken breast...? Yawn. The desert looked pretty, but I'm not sure it had anything but flower, egg and oil in it. Wonderful place to eat and drink! We took the fried chicken with potatos, the green peppers dish, and the Huevos rotos (French fries, eggs and ham), all was excellent! My friend and I went here without planning because it was one of the only decent looking places open in the area. It turned out to be a very pleasant surprise!! The salmorejo was incredibly flavorful and rich, I highly recommend it! I also got the mango and avocado salad and it was large and had great flavors. My friend got the burger, it was very very rare and the black bun had a strange flavor. Overall I would return just for the salmorejo because it was so good! Friendly staff. read more

We are staying around the corner and like the neighbourly look of this resto. Fun for a drink but do NOT eat here. I ordered the menu del dia which offered steamed veggies as a starter. These were not steamed but looked and tasted like soggy leftovers drenched in salt and oil. Almost inedible. Then I had tuna as the main course with a salad. Only edible thing was the salad. The tuna was so dried out that I couldn't eat it. I would have choked on it. How can you serve something like this and not be embarrassed. The waiter cleared our tables seeing all the tuna on the plate. He didn't ask why- he likely knew why. Total waste of time and money. I will never come back. Worst meal I have ever had anywhere, anytime. read more

This is an excellent restaurant. We've been here twice this week, and love the pulpos a la plancha, salmorejo, and chocolate cake or carrot cake desserts. Wine of the house is good, not great. Food is wonderfully cooked and presented. Service is less than friendly or prompt, but typical for, say, New York or Paris or Madrid. Very good place I highly recommend! We tried to stop at a popular tapas joint down the street but it didn't have seating. We saw seating in the pictures for this place and walked over. Wow! Was that the right move.
