I visited this store for the first time on Saturday morning. There were two men, in baseball dept, who were extremely helpful. found me the product. was knowledgable of the product as well. assisted with a fitting room, before i can even ask! impressive. the girls behind the checkout (Heather specifically) was not helpful. They ignored me when i was standing in line at check out. Told me they never saw me so they didn't assist me. Meanwhile i was waiting in line and was upset (to say the least) when i was cut in line, only for Heather to say she never saw me. Rude and Unhelpful it was NOT RIGHT. So disappointed after having excellent customer service to the LACK of existance of customer service at the checkout. Wanted to express my disappointment, with half of the staff. it's a shame how a couple of bad employees can ruin a simple shopping trip. read more

Let me start off by saying that Manny in the golf dept is a treasure. He's extremely knowledgeable and kind. The rest of the staff in that store is an absolute disaster. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE! Let me start by saying that this issue began on Sunday, July 10th - over two weeks ago. My partner and I went to Dick's to buy a treadmill and we couldn't find anyone to help us with buying it so we had to go to the front register. During the purchase, we arranged to have it delivered and were given a date of 7/18 - fine, no problem. We receive a call the same day that it could be delivered the next day 7/11 because they had a cancelation. We blocked a 4-hour window to be home and wait for the delivery (having to take time off of work). My partner got a call that it would be late and she was concerned because of the time - after 8pm at this point. During the call she established that the delivery company didn't even have the treadmill because the order on their list was for "assembly only". So, back to square one. They rescheduled the delivery for Friday, July 17 between 10-2 - again, taking time away from work. At 1:50pm my partner called the driver and ("SELECT EXPRESS DELIVERY") he told her he'd be late (4-7pm). The previous day when this new window of time had been established, my partner was crystal clear about not being available after 2pm Sunday - we wouldn't be home. The driver suggested he could just leave it outside the door between 4-7pm. This was her breaking point. She called Dick's and told them to please refund her card because the delivery company cannot get the item delivered properly. Now, this is the real kicker! They told her that her card would only be refunded when the treadmill was returned to the store! A treadmill we had never even seen - they were making HER responsible for it. She was flexible when they told her it would be 2-3 days before "SELECT EXPRESS DELIVERY" returned it. 4 days pass and she had to call the credit card company to cancel the payment. Leah, the store manager, still hasn't called her to confirm the treadmill was returned and it's been about a week now (not "2-3 days" as she promised). My partner also had to reach out to corporate who also didn't give a hoot or help with the matter. Thank goodness the credit card company could help! read more

Literally THE WORST "customer service!" I come into the store for waterproof hiking shoes because it's snowing, and I REALLY need these shoes because I just got in from CA with only slides on. Finally find my size in the shoe I wanted (very poor selection for women's hiking boots compared to men's offerings), go up to the counter to pay, it's 5 minutes to closing, and I'm told "sorry; no cash -- we can only take cards because we already closed out the registers." This means they closed out the registers WAY BEFORE the store's listed closing time, and NO announcements were made to let customers know that if they needed to pay in cash, they needed to get up to the registers by a certain time. All they could muster was "Sorry (NOT a consolation!), but we can put them on hold for you." ON HOLD? After I WASTED time and gas to come out to this store and there will likely be snow accumulations by tomorrow morning that won't allow me to leave my house in the shoes I'm still wearing. HORRIBLE! Will NEVER come here again for ANYTHING. And THIS is why S.I. needs to replace these lame-ass stores like Dick's with a LEGIT sporting goods/outdoor rec store like REI.com. read more

Let me start off by saying the MANAGER AT THE STATEN ISLAND, NY location is a FUCKING MISERABLE DICK HEAD! Let me explain why! My son bought a basketball less then 30 days ago. My son went to put air inside the ball and that piece fell inside of the basketball which means it's defected, which means if I have the receipt when you look up my number and I show you what happened to the basketball, you either need to refund me back my money or do an exchange for the basketball. So I was in the market for snow pants. I order two different types online. They gave me a delivery date and it kept getting pushed back. I really never had this happen with any package before. I kept calling Dicks and all they kept doing was apologizing and giving me money off. Finally a week or so later it arrived and it was a big disappointment. The garments were dirty, had human, dog hair and glitter all over it. They were obviously a merchandise return from the holidays. Who sends out returns!! I paid over $200 for snow pants! I also waited over the delivery date posted on the website to get garbage they sent me! This by far is a terrible company who has no Quality Control. I would never order online or buy in the store. Seriously there's nothing wrong with this store. I've purchased a few pairs of running sneakers from this place since it's opened and quite honestly this one of the best sporting good stores on Staten Island if at all. There's not many choices out here. The store is always well stocked and it's NEAT! I've never seen this store messy ever. The prices aren't the greatest nor are they cheap like Models or god forbid Target. The merchandise is top quality as good as you're going to get for sporting goods geared towards the average consumer. BTW, the umbrellas here are awesome! I'm a tall guy and hate using flimsy umbrellas so when this place first opened I bought a massive golf brand umbrella which has done its job 100% and still hasn't broken. Absolutely wonderful! Called early this morning (Sat Nov 28th, 2020) the woman that answered the phone was absolutely perfect! Friendly, helpful and knew exactly what I asked. Drove 45 min to Staten Island only to find out the woman helping me (Valerie) was the same woman that answered the phone. She is on the ball, efficient friendly and was in and out in minutes. From the time I called till the time I walked out the door, I have nothing but accolades for the the Staten Island Store and note to management, Valerie is definitely the standard and exceeded all expectations! Note to corporate, your freehold NJ store is filled with nasty unhelpful ppl and should be trained by Valerie and the staff in Staten Island on how to treat your customers. 3.5 stars. Here is the deal: It's a huge faceless chain store, that should sum it up. No, you cannot find any pro brands in here, it's all mainstream. Yes, customer service is non-existent, to find someone on the floor to help is mission impossible, and even if you find them, they are not much of a help. Yes, changing rooms are only two and they are under lock and key (see previous note about finding someone with a key)... BUT... For what it is - general sports goods and simple everyday stuff - they are OK. North Face, Nike, Adidas - decent selection for outdoors activities and runners, from your every day dryfit tank you gonna sweat thru anyways to warm jacket to run on dirty trail. So, yea... as much as I grumble, I will still shop here - as long as I run and hike, I need all that stuff. read more

This store is decent for what it has, but there is a major flaw with this particular Dick's- they do not carry bicycles. They said they "don't have the room". But they do have room for about a dozen canoes and as many kayaks. I wonder how many canoes they're selling on Staten Island? I wonder how many bicycle sales they've lost? It's just an example of a national store not knowing the local market. Another very annoying thing was how I had to tell the cashier three times that I wasn't interested in signing up for a rewards card. Some other annoying things about this store are: No knives. No archery equipment. No guns- lots of gun clubs on Staten Island. They did have lacrosse equipment though- another sport that isn't popular on Staten Island. We had a great experience shopping here on a Sunday in July. We thought it would be really crowded, but it was super chill, and we were able to get everything we needed for sleepaway camp. Dick's even had great deals on chairs for the beach. When I got home, I realized I'd been overcharged for an item. I called the store weeks later, and, after taking some info from the receipt, the store manager, Melissa, was able to refund me quickly over the phone! I was so thrilled that it was so easy. This store has always been terrible with customer service out on the floor. We still go and I don't know why. I needed help with rollerblades. One lady was on her cell in the treadmill area and 2 guys were talking to each other ignoring me and another lady needing help. I called the store and said I needed help and they sent NO ONE!!!The 2 guys finally came around and I waved them down after 3 tries. Zero assistance. We wanted coats but there was no one to help us decider what was warm and waterproof. We wanted bogs boots but ended up with mukluks after my husband found a ladder and climbed up to retrieve the right sizes... again because no one offered to help and we couldn't find a single soul on the floor. This places sells sporting goods...which is convent and straight forward...expicaly when you are going on a trip and you need certain stuff for a crazy activity...best place to purchase stuff for your trip or just a day of crazy adventures... My cosines got a few sporting goods and some clothes here ...there is a large dressing room for them to try out clothing ...I never really walked all the way in the store...I might next time I ever stop by..every time I come here there is always a huge ass line for check out...feel like forever waiting in that line... He was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. When I arrived at the store he was there, remembered me, went out of his way to help me, knew where to find everything I wanted and generally made the errand a good experience. This store does CHEAP MARKETING tricks to BEFOOL ITs customers! It had a large label that said something like (large print) CLEARANCE - TAKE ANOTHER 50% OFF ON THE LOWEST PRICE on several of sport clothing racks, middle of the aisle. On register, they charged the same price that was tagged - - slightly reduced from the original! I enquired your rack had a sign that said extra 50% off and some even said extra 75% off on the lowest item. The clerk said this was only for items ending in 93. I asked him to recheck and a staff brought the label that had a SMALL PRINT - 'For items ending in .93'. Essentially, if the lowest price ended as $$.93 cents - you get the extra 50% or 75 % OFF. Those who still want to try this store, please DOUBLE CHECK every price at the cash register. I Would rather go to MACYs or KOHLS or SEARS or JC PENNY or even MODELS rather than them next time. read more

This place has a lot of things to stay fit or mostly any outdoor activity you plan to do. I usually find almost anything I need here. The only thing it doesn't have is a bike section. Gym cloths.. Weight lifting.. Good Running shoes.. I just don't like coming sometimes and dealing with the some of the employees.. I picked up about $135 worth of shorts and shirts and asked at the cash register what Columbus Day weekend sales were on. The sales clerk said they did not have sales in the store but coupons were just sent out by email. It took me two minutes on the web site to find that they had $20 off for over $100 and bring up the coupon on my phone- from their web site. Surely the clerk knew, or should have known, that this discount coupon was out there. Or, had she been instructed not to offer it? Not sure. Well, I got home and my son found that one of the pairs of shorts was not what he wanted so we went back on Columbus Day to exchange hem. The shorts we were returning were $35 and the cost of the new ones he picked out was $40. The clerk rank up a $10 charge when I was expecting $5.00. So they took off $5.00 on the price of the returned shorts but then did not transfer the discount over to the new shorts. I asked why and she said because the coupon was from the day before. So, I went to their web site and found that they still had a $20 off for over $100 going on so I asked why she couldn't just carry the $5.00 discount over. She said she couldn't but she was very adamant about it. I asked then to see a manager and another person came over. I explained what had happened and he quite angrily said to me to calm down and he was going to get me my $5.00 so I could "get out of here". The $5.00 was not the big deal but it was the combined experience of the sales folks knowing there were discount coupons available on their own web site and not offering them Plus the refusal to honor that coupon on a returned item.
