I walked in to get some shoes. A young man with dirty blonde hair helped us out from the shoe section. I told him what my problems were ( planters fasciitis, flat feet, like to walk a lot) and her directed me to the Hoka brand. After putting these on, my foot pain practically vanished. I was in a rush to get some equipment and the guys helping in shoes were very helpful. Of course checking out is always a headache, but not with Annaleigh. She made things easy, signed me up and even had a great idea. For Dicks to keep the spare shoe, if one is lost, to sell/help amputees. Who doesn't love dick's? I know some people that are addicted to dick's, but I'm not one of those. I do think dick's can be useful though. They serve a purpose. It's the only store like this available without going up to ATX or popping down to San Antonio so if you need this kind of store then this is your best bet, but there's a reason why the texas-based Academy is popular in these parts, and it's basically the same, but for half the price and with better service. I don't like Dick's but it doesn't get its usual one star just because it does indeed have a monopoly on this area and provide something to New Braunfels the other stores. Don't waste your time here. There are plenty of other sporting goods stores with MUCH BETTER customer service. We went in specifically for life vests. We found the ones we needed on promo, however we needed a different size. The prices were perfect and within our budget! The store associate stated they had the one size we needed in the back. There were plenty of associates available and not busy talking and joking around at the registers and there wasn't a line. We asked if they could bring it to the front since we had our toddler. The associates said NO. I spoke to the manager on the way out while the rest of my family went to the car. I asked why the best could not be brought to the front. He agreed but did nothing to fix the situation. read more

An associate marked my pickup cancelled because he thought there wasn't any in stock. Come to find out they had 3 in stock and was told to replace the order. Be aware if using 3rd party to make sure they have in stock or else you'll have to go through a whole process to get a refund and then replace the order. read more

If you want Academy then don't come here. But we don't have an Academy in NB which means you must come here. The prices aren't as low but the store is nicer and you will be greeted and asked for assistance by at least a dozen associates. They are all really nice too. And when you do find someone it's a college/high school kid with the attitude that they would rather do literally anything else than help you. Went in today in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday. There were only a few people in the store. I was needing help with choosing a workout/running shoe. The one guy in the footwear section was more concerned with stocking shelves than helping me out. I had asked for this guy's help 3 times while there. After about 45 minutes of trying on shoes by myself, I picked out a pair and purchased them. I I should have just left and purchased my shoes elsewhere, but I had undergone surgery a few days before, and did not have the energy to shop other stores. I won't go back here again. read more

This place prices itself out of competition with its peers and the customer service leaves much to be desired. I drove to the store for some Hoppe's solvent. Finding some, I checked the Amazon price which happened to be significantly lower. I walked to the front of the store to ask the manager about price matching and he laughed before stating that they don't price match with anything but brick and mortar stores. Lost a (albeit minor) sale. Last time I'd told myself that it would be the last time I step foot in the store because of the outrageous prices. Not worth my time. This is truly the last. If you can't compete on price with an already healthy margin, you deserve to go the way of Blockbuster. Not the way to keep local business. Store is otherwise clean and well-stocked. I just stopped by to pick up a Mossberg 500 ATI scorpion. Before heading over I spoke with Mary on the phone and upon arriving I met with her she was very helpful and very nice. She handed me off to a manager by the name of Danny who push the transaction through and he was extremely helpful when above and beyond to make sure I get the best bang for the buck! Went in today to buy a 10-22. The kid behind the counter was great. I have a CHL for Texas. All paperwork was complete and then reviewed by manager. He said my DL did not match my CHL number. I gave him the ID card that I had when I got my CHL. These numbers match. He told me my ID and CHL were now void because I had a drivers license. Texas allows you to have both ID's. Only 1 Texas issued ID is necessary. He said I would have to do a background check. I walked out . They lost a sale and a customer for life. I have purchased guns here before. Why do I have a CHL ? So I don't have to go through the background checks. I think the store got it's name from the manager. Learn the state laws if you want to work with guns. read more

I went to get fitted for a 3 wood. When I got to the golf section, an employee who was stocking shelves asked if he could help. I explained that I wanted to get fitted for a 3 wood, and he said the person that did this wasn't there today. Then, he said there was someone who could help, and they would be here in a few minutes. A young lady approached and said she could help. Not sure what training employees receive to be qualified to fit golf clubs, but this person didn't inspire confidence. She said she could get me fitted 'right quick' - if I'm gonna spend $300 on a golf club, I expect a little more time than right quick. Then, she said I would need to pay a $30 fee for the fitting. WTF?? I'm standing there with the Dick's sale flyer, a Dick's coupon and my old 3 wood. I wasn't just coming in to hit some balls, I was obviously ready to buy. Needless to say, I didn't. If you actually need help, expertise and time in purchasing golf clubs, don't waste your time here - go to Austin (PGA Superstore) or San Antonio (Golf Galaxy). read more

9/1/19... Came in knowing I want to purchase their Stevens 555 O/U shotgun... Stood at the gun counter without acknowledgement for 10 minutes or so while the clerk performed tasks of no consequence. Left to look at other sections and hope for a better response on a second attempt. Came back 10 minutes later and again stood waiting unacknowledged by the young man (clerk w/ shaggy hair, beard) for 10 minutes while he spoke about nothing in particular with another customer. He then walks away without acknowledging my presence. At this point, I go gather ~$100 in various kinds of ammunition I need and put it on the counter and wait for the clerk to return. I now have $750 of merchandise (gun + ammunition) I am prepared to buy in the next 5 minutes. Clerk begins heading back my way from the sales floor, sees me at the counter waiting to check out (he does not know my intent to buy the $650 shotgun only the ammunition now stacked on the counter) and he QUICKLY TURNS INTO AN AISLE TO AVOID COMING TO THE GUN COUNTER. Customer service is marginal. I asked a salesperson in the golf section for a cooler that fits in a golf bag and was told they don't carry them. I told him I saw it online and he responded the store didn't carry them. After looking, I found a cooler that attaches to a golf bag but it also fits inside the bag. Upon showing it to the salesperson his response was "well you can put anything inside a golf bag". I've worked in sales and I know that a store may not have exactly what the customer wants or needs but a good salesperson will suggest a good alternative. read more

This Dick's is a bit smaller than some of the other stores I have been in but it is still awesome! They have a great selection of everything. I was in there the other day looking for an elbow brace and they had about 5 different kinds available. Football, baseball, basketball, golf, softball and any other sport you can think of is available at Dick's all with great prices. They also have a great selection of apparel smack dab in the middle of the store. This place is your one stop shop for anything sporting goods, trust me! read more

Very disappointed with the Customer Service in this location. Went in to purchase my 9 year old a pair of football cleats. Spent a total of 45 minutes trying to find a pair that would fit his wide feet. After making a selection and on the way to the counter to pay, I was greeted by two sales associates who then chimed in if they could help! No thank you, we helped ourselves. We drove home with a bad taste in our mouths after our purchase. We will never step foot in this store again. I have always shopped at Academy's and the customer service is awesome there.
