I live 50 miles away but we like to eat at Dickey's when we go to Lake Charles. Yesterday was awful! We ordered a pound of chopped brisket along with 2 sides to go. When I got home and opened the meat, I was shocked at the quality. There was more fat in it than meat and the meat that we could salvage was tough and inedible. I should have just thrown my $44 in the trash. The employee there was so friendly but she had to know she was serving substandard good. If she had just said they were out of brisket, I would have ordered something else. In this economy, where you are charging more for your food, you have to do better. Ordered a Pulled Pork Sandwich with Baked Beans, Mac&Cheese and Unsweetened Ice Tea. Sandwich was COLD. Sent back to put in microwave for 30 secs. No microwave. They made me a new sandwich. Yup! It was cold too! Sent back AGAIN. Not sure what they did, but temp was about 10° warmer, but still cool enough to NOT melt the cheese. Gave up and put the BBQ Sauce on like ketchup and ate the cold sandwich. Why can't they cook the meat with BBQ sauce? That is why I HATE Texas style BBQ. Not BBQ. It's smoked with ketchup on AFTER Cooking! Blech! Beans and Mac/Cheese were good, as was the tea! Thank GOD, they don't use that damned Gold Peak piss water. This was the rudest service i have endured in my life.I chose not to even eat there. This is a place i frequently visit and do delivery orders from and i will NEVER buy again. Among walking in the one worker in particular was unfriendly and under spoken, was not eager to speak to nor serve me my girlfriend nor kids. I planned on having a family dinner after a swimming trip so i came to a family friendly restaurant as i've previously known it to be. I asked for a bag to put a wet swimming towel in and the guy very rudely looks at me and says "those bags cost a lot of money". I immediately said i'd pay for a bag even though i was planning on buying a family dinner anyway i had even left my girlfriend in the dining area to order already. When given the bag after this rude encounter i walked out and told my girlfriend i was going to go back in and pay for just the bag because the worker was so rude. When i told her this she said she was only waiting outside to tell me the same thing that he had been rude to her so she walked out, being unresponsive and mumbling comments under his breath when she was asking for info about the menu. I went back in and told the same guy im here to pay for the bag but wont be dining in because of his rudeness and asked for a manager, supervisor or franchise owners contact and he said to me that he was all that himself and i could make a complaint online if i wanted, so i'll make the complaint and voice my opinion on every social network and review site that i can find about this establishment. Dickey's has been a staple for me for well over a year. I bring all of my friends and family here to the point that some of them are burnt out on it (seriously, we eat here that much). I usually eat Dickey's at least once a week because I love the jalapeño cheddar kielbasa. My usual order is 1/2 lb of the jalapeño kielbasa and 1/2 lb of chicken or brisket (whichever I'm in the mood for). I always have leftovers and can spread this out over several meals. The chicken is always moist with a nice flavor, but the last few times I got the brisket, it was so dry that it had the texture of jerky. My boyfriend was in town today, so we stopped by Dickey's after leaving Target to get a to-go order. We ordered a classic chopped brisket sandwich and 1/2 lb of sausage. I should have known something was wrong when the woman asked what I wanted for my two sides. Sometimes the person fixing the sides will assume I want a side with my meat, which I usually decline, but I decided to get one today to give to my boyfriend because he was already saying it wasn't going to be enough food. We got back to my house and opened the boxes and I immediately knew something was wrong with my sausage. I have eaten here so much and been shorted on weight at other restaurants so frequently that I can easily tell when something doesn't weigh what it's supposed to. It came in at 6.25 ounces. We also didn't have a classic sandwich. We had been charged for a 1-meat plate instead of the sandwich (almost double the price, which I guess means we got $5 in sides) and my boyfriend had to eat his dry brisket on the hard rolls, which he wasn't happy about. Honestly, almost 2 ounces is a lot to miss for meat and this is the first time I believe to have been "shorted" at Dickey's, but the decline in quality over the past few months has really rubbed me the wrong way, coupled with the fact that they increasingly sell out of the meats I want, I don't know when I will be back. read more

We are visiting and went to Dickies last night for dinner. It was 7 PM and when we drove up, the restaurant was empty. We should have taken note at that point. But, we didn't really know any other great place to go, so we gave it a shot. My husband ordered a brisket sandwich and I ordered a stuffed potato. When we got the food, my potato was so cold that it didn't even warm the cheese, much less melt it. The potato itself was cold. I asked the man if he could just put it in the microwave, to which he said the they didn't have a microwave but he could put some meat on it to warm it up. He put the brisket, which was also cold, on it and that was awful. The whole this was inedible. He then offered me a rib dinner. The ribs were so dry, that you couldn't even chew the meat. The sides were not fresh so the whole dinner went in the garbage and I didn't have dinner. My husband's sandwich was cold as well and the brisket was dried out completely. Again, his went in the garbage too. We've been to other Dickie's BBQ restaurants before and it was much better. This store needs to be closed and revamped. The food is awful...BUT, their ice cream machine worked so I got an ice cream cone for dinner. read more

Tonight we decided to grab something to eat at Dickeys BBQ located in Lake Charles Louisiana right down from the Golden Nugget Casino in Lake Charles Louisiana we have eaten at Dickeys BBQ multiple times this is of course my first review for them the food is awesome I would have to say that Ive eating at a couple of barbecue places and I would have to say that Dickey's Barbecue has the best barbecue in town I usually always get the ribs with the mac and cheese and the baked beans the ribs or some of the best ribs I've eaten there really meaty they just fall off the bone My god this stuff is delicious. The barbecue sauce comes in a variety of flavors and is very good. This was awesome choice tonight for dinner. We both got the 2 meat plate with 2 sides and a drink. I decided to get the potato casserole and the jalapeno beans and everything was delicious and my fiance got the sliced brisket, pull pork with potato salad and baked beans. We usually always see the manager when we go in he's usually working right up at the counter smiling and happy as always but we didn't see him tonight. The staff is always wonderful and polite always greeting us with smiles. The place is really nice always clean. There was a nice crowd in there tonight but the device was fast and enjoyable. I think this was one of the best choices we could have made for dinner tonight so if you're ever in Lake Charles Louisiana please go buy Dickies BBQ you won't be disappointed read more

We went to this restaurant last night for dinner. It was 7:00 pm and I noticed that the place was empty. We should have taken note of that. I came in during what I assume would be mid to end of rush hour, the line was a little long but they got us through pretty quick. I didn't have time to do the whole sigh and roll my eyes thing which is always a plus! We got through the line ordered a Holy Kielbasa, Fancy Pork, Brisket special which came with 2 sides (we chose potatoe casserole and Mac n cheese) a drink and a yeast roll we added another drink and we ended up spending a grand total of $27. Taste - the Holy Kielbasa was very good! I have never had kielbasa so my husband ordered it for me, of course it tastes better with the bbq sauce they give you, the fancy pork was pretty great also I kind of liked the Cole slaw on top of the pulled pork it have it a new level of flavor! The brisket was pretty flavorful and fell apart while I was playing with it with my plastic fork which is awesome! My husband did say it was a tiny bit on the dry side but that was his only complaint for the brisket! The Mac n cheese was really super cheesy and it was pretty generic like Wal-Mart's but it's the South you know some of us like our Mac n cheese peppered some of us like it plain some of us eat it with tonies ( wink wink that's all me ) the potatoe casserole was decent not slap your momma good but not bad at all. Appearance - when you walk in you know it's a bbq pit, I mean there is a giant picture of the parts of a cow in the wall which is so cool! The walls are black which really makes the white writing on the walls pop, its really nearly decorated in there. When you finish looking around and walk up to order you see a gigantic smoker behind the people who are cooking along with a huge fridge of meat tons of meat! The people in there all look genuinely happy to be at work which is weird, unless you know the people who work there are paid well which is awesome for our community and for guests who come in. The food was really good. I went there with my husband and two kids. It was Sunday so the kids were able to eat free. The food for them was enough for adults. The BEST grilled cheese EVER!!Our ribs and brisket were seasoned very well and tender. I was skeptical about eating the potato salad, but the worker told me I could send it back if I didn't enjoy it. Second time I have eaten at this location and it was fantastic! I had the Classic Sandwich meal which was a jalapeño sausage sandwich, baked potato casserole (!) and potato salad- along with the awesome yellow cup of sweet tea. We ate there yesterday and between the 3 of us we had sliced brisket, ribs, sliced chicken breast, loaded baked potato with brisket, bbq beans, cabbage slaw, mac and cheese, and caesar salad on various plates. While the sides were ok they were nothing to really brag about. The meats on the other hand were very good. Not 5 star good but tasty. I will say though that the pork ribs stood out from the rest, and will be ordering them again. Over all this is a good place to satisfy your bbq cravings without breaking the bank, just keep in mind that this is a chain restaurant and if you are looking for a top level 5 star aged to perfection prime meat eatery, this isn't it. But what Dickey's does do they do very well. I recommend that you give it a shot. read more

The brisket is amazingly tender, and the ribs fall off the bone. The service is fast and friendly, and the light lemonade in the cute yellow to go cup is good. I agree with others that the side dishes are rather small for the price, but I thought the mac and cheese was tasty and the creamed spinach was a nice offering at a barbecue place. I got some sliced brisket to go. I got brisket that was sliced with the grain. Totally stringy and tough. The bark was dry and hard. Could not eat. Lacking in any flavor. While on my way to work Sunday afternoon, I stopped and ordered a 3 meat plate with coleslaw and jalapeno beans to go. Once I got to work and it was time for lunch, I was in for a surprise...inside the box was 2 tasteless ribs, 6 slices of kielbasa (sausage), and 2 slices of turkey. While the ribs were very tender, they lacked flavor! the kielbasa was pretty greasy and the turkey was pretty good - juicy and tender. What surprised me the most was the lack of meat. Stopped at Dickeys today to pick up a plate dinner to bring back to my hotel room..yes I did read the reviews before going with some being good and some not so good..gave it a try anyway because I love to eat at Dickey's when I see one but a lot of times its been a hit and miss..this one was a home run though..I am so concerned about ordering any kind of meat that has to have fat trimmed off..I always seem to be the one that gets the meat with the fat on it..I am a stickler when it come to fat meat..today I ordered a 1 meat pulled pork dinner..there was no fat at all on it and it was awesome..the baked beans were excellent and the mustard potato salad was also great..I got a tremendous Fanta strawberry drink (which is my favorite drink when it comes to fountain drinks)..the staff was very pleasant which put the icing on the cake when ordering from an establishment..it's obvious that the person that owns this Dickeys looks for the best to work at his or her establishment..I'd rather an employee make a good wage where they work and the price go up on the food than to pay someone a low wage and the service is poor and the place is dirty...The place was clean and that tells a lot to the customer what the back looks like...keep up the good work and I hope to be back next Sunday for another meal. read more

Got there and it was super busy so we thought it would be really good. I couldn't wait to try some of the menu items that were listed online. They did not have the bakers or fries available at this location. I was trying to get a plate lunch but it was not available, it stated on a little sign while walking up to order that they changed to a la carte items for a better price. Which I'm not sure how $2.25 a side and $7.99 for the sandwich would be a better price. Also the Dickey's potato chips are bags of lays and other small bagged chips that you grab then give to the person fixing the food to put on your tray to order. No fries are available and I saw that the online menu does state that the stared items are available a select locations. The westerner sandwich and just the pork sandwich looked good so we went to order and they told us when we got up to order that they were out of brisket. They should put a sign in the front of the long line to wait stating what they out of if that situation happens. Also on the little paper menu, the westerner sandwich already had the 2 meats picked out for you and we didn't know if you could change the options. We just ordered 2 just the pork sandwiches with a medium side of mac and cheese instead. The mac and cheese is store bought Velveeta mac and cheese and the pork was dry and crunchy. The BBQ sauce was good but I didn't do much for the pork sandwich since it was already dried out. For the about $17 it cost for the two sandwiches and a medium mac and cheese. It was not worth the wait and money it cost for a lunch that was disappointing. The side of the containter says: Homestyle Sides Made with same care and love in each batch as Mr. Travis Dickey did back in 1941. I wouldn't call a store bought mac and cheese a homestyle side. I did not like the price and quality of the food that was made.
