I live 50 miles away but we like to eat at Dickey's when we go to Lake Charles. Yesterday was awful! We ordered a pound of chopped brisket along with 2 sides to go. When I got home and opened the meat, I was shocked at the quality. There was more fat in it than meat and the meat that we could salvage was tough and inedible. I should have just thrown my $44 in the trash. The employee there was so friendly but she had to know she was serving substandard good. If she had just said they were out of brisket, I would have ordered something else. In this economy, where you are charging more for your food, you have to do better. You've lost a customer.

1/2 lb of brisket and 1/2 lb of jalapeño cheddar kielbasa

Dickey's has been a staple for me for well over a year. I bring all of my friends and family here to the point that some of them are burnt out on it (seriously, we eat here that much). I usually eat Dickey's at least once a week because I love the jalapeño cheddar kielbasa. My usual order is 1/2 lb of the jalapeño kielbasa and 1/2 lb of chicken or brisket (whichever I'm in the mood for). I always have leftovers and can spread this out over several meals. The chicken is always moist with a nice flavor, but the last few times I got the brisket, it was so dry that it had the texture of jerky. My boyfriend was in town today, so we stopped by Dickey's after leaving Target to get a to-go order. We ordered a classic chopped brisket sandwich and 1/2 lb of sausage. I should have known something was wrong when the woman asked what I wanted for my two sides. Sometimes the person fixing the sides will assume I want a side with my meat, which I usually decline, but I decided to get one today to give to my boyfriend because he was already saying it wasn't going to be enough food. We got back to my house and opened the boxes and I immediately knew something was wrong with my sausage. I have eaten here so much and been shorted on weight at other restaurants so frequently that I can easily tell when something doesn't weigh what it's supposed to. It came in at 6.25 ounces. We also didn't have a classic sandwich. We had been charged for a 1-meat plate instead of the sandwich (almost double the price, which I guess means we got $5 in sides) and my boyfriend had to eat his dry brisket on the hard rolls, which he wasn't happy about. Honestly, almost 2 ounces is a lot to miss for meat and this is the first time I believe to have been "shorted" at Dickey's, but the decline in quality over the past few months has really rubbed me the wrong way, coupled with the fact that they increasingly sell out of the meats I want, I don't know when I will be back.

Turkey and coleslaw. $11.50. One meat plate.

I like Dickeys barbecue. I've been to many different locations. This one was cleaner, newer, nicer than all others. The food was quite good. The turkey was prepared well. I will definitely return here.

Black hair on tray

Just stopped for lunch. Food was good but lost appetite half way through sandwich when I noticed black hair on tray. Not mine, I'm 60 yrs old and full grey. Employees should wear hair nets.

Tonight we decided to grab something to eat at Dickeys BBQ located in Lake Charles Louisiana right down from the Golden Nugget Casino in Lake Charles Louisiana we have eaten at Dickeys BBQ multiple times this is of course my first review for them the food is awesome I would have to say that Ive eating at a couple of barbecue places and I would have to say that Dickey's Barbecue has the best barbecue in town I usually always get the ribs with the mac and cheese and the baked beans the ribs or some of the best ribs I've eaten there really meaty they just fall off the bone My god this stuff is delicious. The barbecue sauce comes in a variety of flavors and is very good. This was awesome choice tonight for dinner. We both got the 2 meat plate with 2 sides and a drink. I decided to get the potato casserole and the jalapeno beans and everything was delicious and my fiance got the sliced brisket, pull pork with potato salad and baked beans. We usually always see the manager when we go in he's usually working right up at the counter smiling and happy as always but we didn't see him tonight. The staff is always wonderful and polite always greeting us with smiles. The place is really nice always clean. There was a nice crowd in there tonight but the device was fast and enjoyable. I think this was one of the best choices we could have made for dinner tonight so if you're ever in Lake Charles Louisiana please go buy Dickies BBQ you won't be disappointed

I came in during what I assume would be mid to end of rush hour, the line was a little long but they got us through pretty quick. I didn't have time to do the whole sigh and roll my eyes thing which is always a plus! We got through the line ordered a Holy Kielbasa, Fancy Pork, Brisket special which came with 2 sides (we chose potatoe casserole and Mac n cheese) a drink and a yeast roll we added another drink and we ended up spending a grand total of $27. Taste - the Holy Kielbasa was very good! I have never had kielbasa so my husband ordered it for me, of course it tastes better with the bbq sauce they give you, the fancy pork was pretty great also I kind of liked the Cole slaw on top of the pulled pork it have it a new level of flavor! The brisket was pretty flavorful and fell apart while I was playing with it with my plastic fork which is awesome! My husband did say it was a tiny bit on the dry side but that was his only complaint for the brisket! The Mac n cheese was really super cheesy and it was pretty generic like Wal-Mart's but it's the South you know some of us like our Mac n cheese peppered some of us like it plain some of us eat it with tonies ( wink wink that's all me ) the potatoe casserole was decent not slap your momma good but not bad at all. Appearance - when you walk in you know it's a bbq pit, I mean there is a giant picture of the parts of a cow in the wall which is so cool! The walls are black which really makes the white writing on the walls pop, its really nearly decorated in there. When you finish looking around and walk up to order you see a gigantic smoker behind the people who are cooking along with a huge fridge of meat tons of meat! The people in there all look genuinely happy to be at work which is weird, unless you know the people who work there are paid well which is awesome for our community and for guests who come in. Cleanliness- this place is ridiculously clean y'all. Even the bathrooms! Overall I was happy with my experience and will probably be going back!

A little sample of the food they have and they have a great online service as well! I'll definitely be signing up.

I went there and through the mist of everything that's going on in Lake Charles dickeys was just awesome! Great food great service and super friendly! I'll be ordering memorial weekend food for sure!

I don't know what has happened to Dickey's, but this place was no a good experience. For $16.00 I got 1 slice of brisket, 2 small ribs, 1/2 piece smoked sausage, beans and potato salad. I ordered Jalepeno beans and got sweet Bbq beans. I ordered the baked potato casserole and got manufactured mustard potato salad. The brisket, ribs and even the smoked sausage were so dry. This is a waste of time and money. I have never had Bbq this dry

While looking for a backup, I came across this place. I was surprised to find that they provided a variation of counter service instead of table service. We ordered at the counter, received a number and the staff later brought the food to us. However, with the beer, we ordered at a different counter and brought it back to the table ourselves. This was a while back, so I'm not sure if things have changed since then. Seating was available indoors (2 levels) and outdoors, complete with live music. We ordered the eagle wings & fries, margherita pizza and pretzels & beer cheese. The chicken wings were dry and the pizza crust was less than desirable. The pretzels were salty, but better once the salt was dusted off. The beer cheese was interesting but not my favorite. Overall, I didn't care for the food. The atmosphere was lively, but I wouldn't return just for that. There's 26 photos that should post with this review.

It's a super awesome setup with ample parking and great walk up. We had premade reservations via Open Table. They aren't required but we did just in case they were busy. Our server was Megan, who made great recommendations and was super helpful. (Ask for her!) Anywho... We ordered Parmesan crusted fries to start with me having the Barrel and Bough for a starter drink, and Honey had a Lake front Lager. He described it as being light and delicious. The Barrel and Bough was chefs kiss... a welcome spin on my favorite Old Fashioned. He ordered the I-10 Smash Burger with a truffle Fries, and I went for the chicken and sausage gumbo, with a side of brown butter mashed potatoes. The meal was excellent. Honey wasn't super impressed with the smash burger, but it was great presentation with good flavor. I, however, devoured my gumbo. It was the perfect blend with spice but a hint of sweet. Reminded me of my mother's gumbo and that's hard to beat!!!! We finished the meal with a cup of coffee. We got cans of Fruit Stand blend to go, and we loved it. We will for sure be back for more trips to enjoy their delish faire of foods. It is seafood heavy but there are options for vegans and burgers available as well. Overall... chefs kiss and a salute to the chef!

We arrived just a couple minutes after their 11 a.m. opening, and the place was already packed, a good sign in itself. Luckily, with only three of us, the hostess got us seated at a table right away. The exterior isn't much to look at, but stepping inside tells a different story. The interior has a sports bar meets old school diner vibe, with decor that gives the whole place a nostalgic, lived-in charm. We all decided on the Darrell's Special sandwich with jalapeño mayo, and it did not disappoint. Our waitress was fantastic the whole meal, constantly checking in, keeping our drinks filled, and making sure we didn't need anything else. Despite how busy the place was, our sandwiches came out in a surprisingly short time. The sandwich itself is a beast! A toasted, loaded bun stacked with ham, turkey, and roast beef (which I hear is made in-house), all topped with roast beef gravy, American, Swiss, and provolone cheeses, lettuce, mustard, and your choice of regular or jalapeño mayonnaise, of course we had the Jalapeño Mayo. The first bite reminded me of a warm French dip, but that impression quickly gave way to layers of different meat flavors, rounded out by the subtle heat of the jalapeño mayo. It practically melted in my mouth. Honestly, I wanted to finish the whole thing, but I didn't want to need to be rolled out of the building, so I boxed up the second half and enjoyed it again for dinner. Great food, great service, and now I understand what all the buzz was about.

The menus are on the table but you really don't need a menu here since there are only a few items. Everyone comes here for po-boys obviously and they have a few to choose from. The top 2 choices are the most common, the special and the surf and turf. To me, what makes a good po-boy, is the bread....like many other sandwiches. If you have great bread, you're usually making a good sandwich. I tried the small special, while the rest of the table tried either the special or surf and turf. They don't have a formal kids menu, but they just have either PB&J or grilled cheese. We tried the grilled cheese. My fav ended up being the surf and turf due to it being cleaner to eat and more variety of taste and texture between the bread. I liked the special, but I forgot to ask the server to remove the American cheese, so it made it taste funny and would have been better without it.

The inside is beautiful, the dining areas and bar looked immaculate, the staff were friendly and attentive, so we assumed we would have an excellent meal. After getting our shrimp and artichoke dip appetizer, we realized the tortilla chips were stale and proceeded to eat the dip with just our forks. We shared a fried chicken breast main dish and a side Caesar salad. The salad croutons were picked off because we noticed those were also stale and chewy - this made the salad edible at least. Our chicken came out and we both immediately noticed it tasted funny, like a soapy dish water marinade. The breading was edible but sadly we couldn't make a meal out of it. So we left hungry and added this location to our list of places never to visit again when we are in the area. I don't know what this location is doing that can't be replicated from the other more popular location, but having the advantage of being one of the few restaurants open on Sunday, I would suggest management fix whatever is happening in the kitchen so they might succeed long term.
