I was visiting Munich on business and staying at the Park Inn across the street. I saw that there was a biergarten across the street that served Ayinger beer, a really good German brewery, and decided to stop by for dinner after reading some positive reviews online. Dicke Sophie is a nice place inside, with a biergarten outside with tables. They were busy for dinner and everyone was inside as it had just rained and the tables outside were wet. I tried to order an Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock without looking at the menu and they didn't have it, but I had the Dunkel Lager which was a dark lager that was pretty tasty. Then I switched to Ayinger Jahhhundertbier which was lighter, slightly bitter but not like an English or American bitter, just not as sweet as many German beers. I thought it was pretty good and I had never tried this beer, it was a good choice. Both types of beer were 3,50 Euros each for 0.5L.
For dinner, I chose the most expensive thing on the menu because it wasn't that much (19 Euros), not even knowing what it was LOL. I knew it was a meat filet with potatoes and artichokes, that it's. This was off the weekly special menu on the first page. It ended up being kind of like a surf and turf, with a filet of beef, cooked medium, two pieces of medium-sized shrimp, an artichoke heart with like a cream sauce inside, and rectangular slices of fried potatoes. Not a huge portion but all was very tasty. I was pleased with the food and service and would definitely visit again. Keep in mind that they don't take American credit cards, but they allowed me to leave my ID and go and get cash from the hotel front desk across the street and come back to pay. All in all, it was a good experience and may visit again during my week in Munich.
Update: visited again and got the roasted pork in brown beer gravy with potato dumplings. It was only like 11 or 12 Euros and one of the best meals I had in Munich. Had another couple of Ayinger Jahrhundertbiers to drink with it. The bartender didn't speak English but provided me an English menu and referred me to another bartender that did. The people are very nice here and the food is good. I recommend this place and would definitely hang out here again if I'm in this part of Munich (near the Johanneskirche train stop in East Munich). read more
