I visited this Dick's location (at Ross Park Mall) on 4/14/2024. Lots of shoppers looking at the Stanley Cup display. The display was amazing!! Many shoppers were looking through the styles and colors. There's a limit of 2 per customer per shopping trip. I purchased two Stanley Cups. Then, while eating at nearby BJs, my daughter calls from California (I'm just visiting PA for 9 days) and she mentions that I selected the wrong color. She asked nicely if I can go exchange the white for cream. Upon finishing our food, we drove back to Dick's, which was nearby and I asked the cashier if I could exchange the cup from white to cream. He's a young sales associate and I don't think he intentionally meant to be rude but he asked me, "what's the difference? " and he shakes his head. So, I explained that their store sells both colors so there must be a little bit of a difference. I run and I grab the cream and bring it to the register. And I asked him if they've been selling a lot of these cups because there are a lot of customers at the display area. He said to me that they are "a white girl's cup". So I asked him if he was saying that because the cup I'm getting is white or cream? And he said, "no, all the Stanley cups are for white girls". Then the next day on April 15, I received an email with the survey asking how my return experience was and I explained this story. I also mentioned that I think that there could an opportunity for some coaching and training around sensitivity for sales associates. No sales associate should make racial comments to a customer about a product that their store sells, especially while they are on the clock working and selling the items. I also mentioned that I don't think the sales associate intentionally meant to be insensitive but that's where the training and coaching comes in. I'm a little surprised that I haven't heard any response upon taking that survey where I made these comments. So, I figured a yelp review would be best since I have not heard any response from the survey I took on April 15. I really hope that future customers who are buying the Stanley cups do not have this sales associate as their cashier. read more
