Went to see "Pink Lady, Girlz Club presents: Mixology" at the Wohlfarth in DC over the summer. I'd…read morebeen to the other Wohlfarth gallery in Provincetown but never this one; located by Catholic University in the Brookland neighborhood. Gotta say I had a blast at this opening party. The Wohlfarth is two old DC townhouses converted into art space. The Gully Jimson Quartet punk-a-billy band played the opening and there was libations and bbq going on out on the balcony. Girlz Club was founded in 2003 by artist Candace Keegan (http://www.candysart.com). The first group exhibition was held at Wohlfarth Galleries in July 2003 and included Washington DC area artists Judy Jashinsky, Erin Hunter, Emily Greene (pictured standing with her pieces), Rachel Gecan-Rondinelli, Elizabeth Jernigan, Lisa Farrell and Mary Anella Frank. Girlz Club organized a collaborative group project at Artomatic 2004 including an exhibition, performance in homage to Ana Mendiata and a 24 hour arts event. Girlz Club believes in the power of collaborative support for women in the arts. Check out the Wohlfarth and check out the next Girlz Cub artist exhibition. But the owner, Mrs. Lavinia Wohlfarth was just concluding a meeting and let me in anyway. Super nice lady. She basically gave me a guided tour. Told me to come back anytime. In our short visit, we discovered we were practically neighbors and had common DC histories. I must admit I didn't fully absorb each exhibit to the point where I can regurg their names to review here. But there were some interesting pieces. I'd like to return again and again to stare at and become one with several. But for my visit, it was as good as it gets!
