For me it's the experience - the time spent looking, studying, and simply browsing a collection is worth gold to me. Chemers Gallery in Tustin is that place that offers that whole experience. Every time I go in there, which I admit isn't near often enough but probably more than some, I delight in "finds". I have a fairly decent collection of artwork and it's not confined to paintings. I've ceramics, sculptures, glasswork, pottery, photographs, and a few weird pieces of found object works as well. Quite a few of those pieces have come from this jewel of a gallery so close to home. The owner Karen, and her friendly staff have always allowed me the luxury to simply roam. I have to walk through numerous times to take everything in. I get distracted by one or two pieces and then turn around and find something else completely unexpected. And, it becomes mine. I love this place!! I am a retired healthcare designer and Chemers was the art consultant on a few of our firms healthcare projects. What I enjoyed was the chosen works were always different from the predictable works too often seen in healthcare spaces and, they always complimented the concepts of our interiors. I also love the shows and exhibitions they often host here. Often soliciting works from local artists, craftspeople, and even foodies, these "pop-up" shows are always good for gifts, wearables, and sometimes taste-ables! And if I'm lucky, I often walk away with a new piece! I always look forward to stopping in on these shows and could spend an hour or more perusing. Do yourself a favor and visit this gallery - oh, and of course, don't forget, they also do excellent framing!!

The museum is two floors, featuring a variety of sections and artists. The architecture itself is beautiful and perfect for photos, and the artwork is unique and enjoyable to explore. The museum has very limited content. There are very few artworks on display, and much of the space feels empty. It was surprising to see a large number of staff but very few visitors, which created an odd atmosphere. What made the experience worse was the lack of clear guidance combined with overly intrusive staff behavior. In the children's drawing area, there were no visible instructions about how the space should be used. Our child was simply drawing on paper at a table provided for that purpose. Within just a few minutes, staff approached us three separate times to tell us that drawing must be done using a board and not on the table. For young children, especially in a space that appears designed for them, this kind of repeated correction--without any posted instructions--felt unnecessary and unwelcoming. Instead of supporting families, it felt like we were being monitored and interrupted. As a nonprofit institution, one would expect a more thoughtful, visitor-friendly experience. Unfortunately, the combination of minimal exhibits, unclear organization, and unfriendly interactions made this visit not worth the trip. We will not be returning. By the way, parking is $8 per hour and requires a three-minute walk from the parking structure to the building.
