But soon as we got in contact with Zoe she asked us what we wanted to get out of our sessions and recommended 1-2-1s and within about 2 sessions we started to notice a difference but after the 6 and the perseverance in between those sessions. It was like we had a totally different dog she had so much more confidence loves other dogs, still loves a ball but actually focuses on us. We started…read morewith some behaviour 1:1 (or Crisis Management Obedience as they call it!) to stop our dog chasing cyclists and joggers, then went onto some dog:dog aggression work when he got overexcited at other dogs doing agility! I'm pleased to say we have a reformed pooch who can sit calmly through an entire set of dogs running agility, and he's pretty good at it himself! Julian and Lorraine own a couple of fields by their country house and work there as well as at Stover Road in Yate. They have a nice new hut for obedience and clicker training, and the fields are permanently decked out for agility - with floodlights for winter lessons. Agility is £5 per group session (you will get about 5 runs in each hour long lesson) or £15 for an individual lesson. You can hire out the field as well if you just want to practice alone but it is hard to see what you are doing wrong so a lesson is advised! Their behaviour sessions are £35. Julian and Lorraine have taken agility dogs to Crufts before, and Anna who uses the field to teach us is currently a Crufts regular with her dogs so you know you are in good hands. There are a few levels of classes, so if you just want to start out as a bit of fun then find a space on a beginners group and see where it takes you.

Sarah's dog training classes are highly recommended! Based…read morejust off Whiteladies Road, she holds classes most evenings. Classes are kept small so you may have to go on a waiting list. Sarah also does 1:1 sessions if you need extra help with a specific problem. Classes last an hour and are very organised - she will show you how to do exercises (such as sit, down, stay, recall) and you do them one at a time - great because you get 1:1 attention from Sarah but it does mean you have to keep your dog still whilst everyone else has their turn! Don't worry if you think that excludes your pooch - that is exactly what she is here to help with, controlling your dog. As well as lessons inside she will take dogs out for walks along the roads which is great practice. She does work dogs to getting their Kennel Club Good Citizen Awards, but you don't have to go that far if you don't want to. A six week course is £50 and you will join a group suitable for your dog's ability - beginner, intermediate or advanced. Its a lovely feeling when she asks you to move up a group! Apart from training your dog its great to meet up with other owners and realise that it isn't just your dog that is doing this, that and the other!

I would recommend that anyone who has a puppy, a rescue dog or and canine with a problem invests in some time with Simon. Be prepared to listen and practice - his approach is logical, sensitive and based on a real understanding of doggy minds, never patronising and most important it works. We have experienced other trainers and techniques with previous dogs without much success - the Calm K9 way really works - our dogs walk well and the youngster's recall is excellent, we are happy and so are they.
