I MISSED MY FLIGHT Firstly, dc cabs overall are some of the rudest, most unresponsive, most dysfunctional businesses in america. diamond cab being no exception. i called at 3:40 for a 4:45 pick up and the woman says "that's in 5 minutes. no way". i said, "ma'am. no, it's in an hour". she says "well call back then".... err? then i call back at 4:20 and it takes 2 calls and 13 minutes to finally get a human being on the phone. finally she says a cab will be there in 20 minutes. FORTY minutes later i have missed all chances of making my flight. never came, never called, and here i am fucking yelping about it like my consumer power means shit in this city. read more

After reading all of the terrible reviews about Diamond Cab, I feel even luckier about what happened to me. Last night at about 3:30 a.m. I called to have a cab pick my friend up. While I could tell that I woke up the dispatcher, she was very nice. 15 later a cab. I crawled into bed and about 10 minutes later my phone rang. It was the cab driver calling to let me know that my friend had left his ipod and jacket in the cab. He didn't have my friends number so he got mine from the dispatcher. He drove all the way back to my house (my friend lives by the hill and I'm in Columbia Heights) to give me his stuff. I was so surprised that a cabbie would do that! I didn't catch his cab number, but that guy has a good karma coming his way! read more

I've had good experiences with them in the past, but last week was the first time I reserved a cab with them in advance. No cab showed up and I was stranded at 5am on Thanksgiving. Tried calling the dispatcher but got no answer (the same goes for Universal and Yellow Cab). Luckily there were plenty of taxis on Mass Ave. Next time I won't even bother trying to reserve one. read more

By far the worst service provider (they are so bad comparing them only to other cab companies would not be sufficient) in the DC area. I waited 1 and a half hours for a cab before I gave up and used UBER. I called Diamond 40 min after my original request to ask them why it was taking so long, they gave me no answer but said they would call another cab and that it should arrive shortly (the same shamefully deceptive promise I got when I first called). 40 minutes later and still no cab. This clown-foolery and disgrace of a company caused me to arrive 2 hours late for work. This is also not the first time that I waited over an hour. Foolish of me to rely on them after suffering from their grossly inadequate service?--absolutely. I learned my lesson and hope this review will keep other people from detrimentally relying on this terrible company. Conclusion: DO NOT USE DIAMOND CAB Co. This confession will probably make my stock plummet in everyone's book, but I'll own up to it anyway. I never, ever, ever, EVER take public transportation. I drive my mustang 150 miles to VA Beach, 120 miles to Charlottesville, 25 miles to my parents house in Herndon, 1.5 miles to work every day, and at times like today when it's especially cold, I'll even drive the 4 blocks to Safeway instead of walking. I know, I know. May I burn in hell for eternity for contributing to the man-made destruction of our planet. If it makes it any better I'm paying the price in this lifetime by getting a TON of parking tickets. Literally 1-2 a month. Anyway, so I could have probably taken the metro to DCA this morning, but I didn't want to subject myself to walking 10 min to Convention Center in the 20 degree weather and/or dealing with clogged metro cars, and a long commute. So I called Diamond Taxi last night and reserved a pick-up at 8:45am this morning. I live right on NY Ave and there are parking restrictions in the morning and evening during rush hour, so I was kind of concerned how the pick-up rendezvous would work out. While I had to call at 8:48am to confirm someone was indeed coming to get me, I spoke to a very genuine and helpful woman who checked my reservation and assured me my cab would be arriving "in a minute" and BAM one minute later there he was. He was 4 minutes late, but the customer service was excellent, the pick up was seamless--only 2 cars honked their horns!--and I was at the airport in 12 minutes. Now I'm in Boston freezing my arse off. Ordered New England Clam Chowder from the in-room dining at my hotel (Boston Harbor Hotel) and it was DIVINE. Large potato chunks, succulent clam morsels, and a very light cream sauce which wasn't overwhelming in texture or flavor. A pretty good start to the trip! Terrible company. Dispatcher would not send a cab to my location because I couldn't provide a physical address - all I had was the intersection I was standing at. It was 5:30am, so it wasn't easy to hail a cab. And I'm sorry, the Convention Center doesn't have a physical address; it covers many city blocks. But apparently, the safety of the driver is in question if I can only say NW side of 7th and New York NW instead of something like 701 New York NW. This company deserves NO stars. I don't even know how they can call themselves a business when they don't perform a service and have really BAD customer support. Unless you're in downtown DC and actually flag one of these cabbies down, then you're pretty much out of luck. I was moving, and needed a cab to take me from my recently vacated apartment complex to my hotel. I waited, and waited, and waited, and pretty much I just waited. I called the number to ask them what's going on and if possible, could they send another cab. The woman that answered the phone seemed to be pissed off at the fact that she had to answer the phone. (OH WAIT, I FORGOT!!! I called them a few times before, and the phone kept RINGING. No one bothered to answer.) So anyway, the woman got huffy, said a few choice (rude) words to me and then just hung up. It was around that time when I was holding my phone and just completely dumbfounded, that a Diamond Cab driver pulled up (he wasn't coming for me), but I had told him what had happened, and he was very apologetic for that woman's behaviour. I was very appreciative of him, and he even called this company's main office to talk to this lady. Obviously, I don't know what came of this, but that man was very nice to me, so 5 stars for him! It must just be the people in the office that are rude and screw everyone over. Anyway, I got lucky and a Yellow Cab pulled up to drop someone off and I ended up using them instead. The remainder of my time in DC (I lived there for another year after) I never bothered to use Diamond Cab again. Avoid this cab company like the plague. Seriously. The cab never showed despite scheduling a pickup the day before. When I called, claimed he was looking for a credit-card-using cab since I asked the day before if their cabs took card---BUT SAID TWICE that I could do cash and not to worry about it. When I asked how long I would have to wait, the guy kept saying "soon" and when I asked where the cab was so I could time whether I should find another cab, try to metro, or wait...the guy refused to say anything more than "he is in your area" and referred to the cab as "112." I think this is the standard CYA line since I read another review on google where a few people said to avoid this mysterious cab #112. I am writing this as I wait for the backup cab. So help me, if I miss my flight due to this horrible company, I am going to lobby my council rep to get this company's license revoked. read more

The management never called me back regarding my complaint. The driver got a call from dispatch after he agreed to take me to Georgetown from Upper Wiscounsin Ave. He picked me out and left to other fair. I called the dispatch to complain and he gave me another number to call. I told the lady who answered the phone. Again, I was given a phone number to call. And, that number has a greeting but does not take message. Since then, I must have passed 50 Diamond Cabs without using their service. I recently told a Diamond Driver why I won't get into his cab when he stopped to ask if I need a ride. I won't do business with Diamond Cab, especially Cab #55. read more

THE OPERATORS ARE HORRIBLE. Every single time I've called, the operators were EXTREMELY unprofessional. One lady had me on speaker and I couldn't hear what she was saying (Hmm.. how about you don't put someone on speaker when they are ordering a cab) so I asked her twice to repeat herself, and I heard her saying "Oh my god.." in an annoyed voice to me and then she repeated herself. WORST TAXI EXPERIENCE EVER!!! Yesterday my sister called to reserve a 6:30 AM cab from Georgetown to National. This morning, starting at 6:20, she and I kept watch out the front windows. At 6:35, she checked her phone (which for some reason had not rung, although the ringer was on) and saw a missed call from the Diamond dispatcher (at 6:33). When my sister called back, the dispatcher said the order was canceled because my sister hadn't picked up her phone. "But the cab never even got here," my sister pointed out. Evidently this didn't matter: the dispatcher kept saying "You didn't pick up your phone," as if this could explain the outright failure of the cab to show up in the first place. The dispatcher was incredibly rude (insult upon injury) and refused to send another cab. My family has used Diamond for decades, but we never will again. read more

We missed the pickup ride from supreme shuttles and I found diamond cab to be the closest to our hotel. It was 330 am and our flight was at 6am. Going to Dules took about 40 mins, I was so scared that we wouldn't make it in time. The service was superb. The cab arrive in 10 mins and we got to the airport pretty quick! Plus it was wayyyyy cheaper than supreme shuttle! I will use and recommend their service next time! Thank you! read more

I've tried to use this company twice. Twice, I have called the night before and arranged a pickup for an airport run in the morning, and twice (TWICE!) they have JUST NOT SHOWED UP. The first time their line was busy for a half hour so I took the metro. The second time, I just got so fed up waiting for twenty minutes that I took the metro. It is as if they do not understand that the single most important aspect of taxi pickup is picking people up to go in taxis. Stay away. read more

If there was an option for 0 stars, that would have been my rating. The driver screamed at me when I came out of the house rudely to begin our engagement. He saw me with heavy luggage and yelled at me to put it in the trunk and popped the trunk without ever getting out of the cab to help open the trunk or help me with my bag. After doing this myself, I went to get in the cab on the sidewalk side and he again rudely yelled at me to enter on the other side. I was so tired of his screaming and couldn't imagine what his driving was like that I decided it would be best not to ride with him. I asked him to open the trunk again and I took my things out. He started screaming at me again at which time I attempted to call Diamond who hung up on my 3 times before I could even say hello. I had a far better experience flagging a cab moments later. Second day the customer service rep did not know of the Gaylord National (though it is new, so that can be one excuse). This is the most horrible taxi company I have ever encountered! They are rude and inefficient. I called them, I said I need a big cab because I have one box, one suitcase and too many bags and I said I need to go to an address to the back door. The cab driver showed up, of course in a normal cab. He said he does not go to the alley because he was afraid of getting murdered!!!!! Stop hating on the OG cab services. I called Diamond today to drop me at and pick me up from a medical visit. Both times I waited about 10 minutes for a cab from the time I called. The dispacher sent a text message with a link to track the cab's arrival and name of the driver. The driver had 15 years experience and knew every landmark along the way, and can rattle off the exact location of the emergency room entrance at every hospital in town. He didn't need to use google maps like the gig economy drivers. I don't know how the price compared to Uber and Lyft and I don't care. read more

First all of let me say, I agree with most of the other reviewers, Diamond Cab sucks. It's not the drivers it's the dispatchers. They are rude and have no concept of customer service. I now usually start off with calling Yellow Cab. Diamond is the next one I call because I know their numbers. I once waited 3 hours for a Diamond cab. Every time I called the dispatcher said the cab was on the way and would be there in 5 minutes. On holidays it's easier to get Diamond Cab than Yellow Cab. I also found a driver who gave me his personal number. He only works weekends. When I need a cab I just call him a few hours in advance and make an appointment for pickup. I can't deal with the Diamond dispatchers they will ruin your day, your attitude, your whole disposition. read more

Horrible experience this morning. It's been snowing and icy, and I had a very early train, so I reserved a 4:45 taxi for pickup at my home. Dispatcher was curt but not outright rude. This morning at 4:45, no taxi, I call to check on status. Is cab on its way? and the answer is, "not yet." Will it be here soon? and the answer is " ." Just silence. He didn't hang up on me, but stopped answering. I call again in five minutes, got nothing, except another, "not yet." Then he opened a radio line to ask someone about a taxi to my home. I asked again and again for his assistance, and heard, " ." Just more silence. In desperation I went to a Car2Go and had to scrape and sweep the ice clean, and was able to get it moving to Union Station. On the way I called and canceled the cab, and received nothing more than a curt acknowledgement. No, "sorry for the inconvenience" or anything more. Of course, between the road conditions and the need to clear of the Car2Go and find a parking spot near Union Station, I missed my train, and will get to New York two hours late for my meetings. But Diamond Cab never seemed too concerned..... I am never using them again. read more

I had an important meeting at DCA. The cab didn't have air conditioning. The cab driver said he used it all the previous day! It was raining so hard and very humid. Because there wasn't air conditioning it was stifling inside the cab. The windows were down as rain came in as I watched other cabs pass us with air conditioning! It was so hot that I placed my suit jacket on the seat next to me as I tried not to lean back on the seat to prevent my pressed shirt from getting wrinkled from the heat. When we arrived at the airport I found my suit jacket wet from the rain coming in on the seat. My hair became a little poofy. What a mess! I was able to dry my jacket and repair my hair. I shouldn't have had to deal with that on such an important day. I wouldn't have had to if the cab was air conditioned on a hot, muggy, rainy, DC day! read more

I always use Diamond Cab to go to the airport. I call the night before. The dispatch answers promptly and is polite. The drivers are always on time or early, and unlike Uber drivers who sit in their cars while I drag my suitcase down the stairs, they come to the door and help with my luggage. The cabs have been clean and drivers professional. read more

Tho I've had "issues" with hacks in other cities like Chicago and St. Louis I would have to say, on the whole, cab companies in DC are about the worst. In fact, I find them so undependable I call 2 or 3 everytime I have to go to an airport or train station. Then, when and if they all show up I just jump in the cab closest to my door. Sure, you might say that's really unfair to the cabbies but my business is much more important than theirs--maybe they should work for a cab company that has better, more dependable dispatch. Second time, rude dispatcher took down my name and address, quoted 20 minutes after I asked how long then hung up (I guess no more questions were allowed). After waiting 30 minutes, called again. Was told cab was en route. About 5 minutes after that, an empty diamond cab slowed as it approached me, then sped away. (I wasn't drunk and while not the most beautiful, I am presentable and was well dressed). Called back to complain - no apology, said I must have been mistaken. 10 minutes later another diamond cab picked me up. Was talking on his cell phone the entire trip. AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL. I began using Diamond Cab after Yellow Cab continued to stand me up. I had decent luck with them until last weekend. I called for a cab 45 minutes before I was hoping to leave. 45 minutes later, still nothing. So I call and the dispatcher, Phil, tells me to go ahead and wait outside. Clearly my original cab was never dispatched. 90 seconds later a cab shows up. Once in the taxi, I explain to him that I am upset and now late for a black tie event. He offered to radio the dispatcher to let him know that I was unhappy, which of course I took him up on. The cabbie explained the situation to Phil who answered with the most condescending response, "Tell her to go ahead and make a tape recording of her complaints and I will listen to it on my way to my crummy job on Monday.
