Horrible. Horrible service. Ignored my delivery details, delayed my package. My package arrived on Wednesday and I was not able to pick it up until the following Tuesday!! Completely defeats the purpose of paying extra for fast delivery. Save yourself the money and use EMS or ANYTHING else instead. I've had a third and final issue with DHL. It seems to me that they just create extra work for themselves and do not release the parcels. - First parcel was held for a month, because they kept saying that my duties need to be paid, but they were paid in person!!! (they could not find the record of that) - Second parcel was never delivered - kept saying that Canada Customs are the bad guy, not them, that they don't have all the documents. Yet, I kept asking what else should I send - they could not say. The parcel was sent Express!!! - Third parcel was never delivered. Same thing - not enough documents and Canada Customs they said is the bad guy. You decide for yourself, but I've ordered another parcel from the same place and used different delivery company - it was delivered on the next day. Canada Customs is great to deal with, they have rules and regulations, they are fast. DHL is like a molasses - if they got hold of your parcel, it would be a month at best before you see it! Terrible company. I will never order another thing if DHL is the courier. I had a pre-paid package delivered from China with a declared customs value of $29.00 CAD. Two months later, DHL contacted me by phone saying that I owed over $39.00 in customs and delivery charges - more than the cost of the goods. The duty was $.89 and the rest was DHL handling fees. They never sent an invoice and then sent it to their own collection agency. Why such a high charge for handling? Why did they not collect on delivery? Such a scam. Don't ever use DHL for shipping and beware of companies that contract with DHL. read more

Horrible. I ordered a textbook from a company that uses DHL. When they first delivered the package, the deliverer wrote that I had moved (I had not) and package was not delivered. I called to clarify and they notified me that it would come the following day (Friday) in the afternoon. So Friday at lunch, I came home from school early and waited, and by 5pm I still hadn't received it so I called them again. They notified me that the shipment was still on hold as that it would come Monday as it takes 24 hours to process that request for "re-shipment". He also told me to leave a note at the door so that the delivery man would know to leave my package in the front lobby. Monday comes, and again, I leave school at lunch to wait for the package. I go online to check the delivery status and see that it is still "on hold" so I call DHL for a 3rd time! I am then notified that the package cannot be delivered to my apartment as I don't have a buzz code/concierge and that my options are to drive 45 minutes (I don't have a car) to pick the package up from a shipment facility or have it delivered somewhere else (my parents live 2 hours away). Overall, not impressed with the lack of knowledge from the employees. While they were nice, they had no idea what they were talking about and did not provide any other solutions for me. read more

So I pay 120+ CAD for an express delivery to get my parcel in 3 days + whatever excessive amount of duties, taxes and brokerage fees they tell me to pay. In 3 days, the online status update says that my parcel has arrived in Ontario, and it is out for delivery. I pick the option to have it left at my front door, without signature, and what happens eventually is that I see the driver stop by my house for 5 minutes and they drive away without even bothering to walk to my front door and knock on my door. 5 minutes later I get a text message telling me that the driver made " an attempt" to deliver, but nobody was home. AN ABSOLUTE LIE, AND I AM SO MAD!!!! What kind of customer service is this, and the worst thing is that the nearest DHL office is in 20 km from Toronto, in Brampton, so going there is not an option for me, and the only other option is for me to reschedule all my plans for another day, and stay home all day to make sure that the driver brings the parcel to my door, for which again, I have no guarantees. On top of that, I call the customer service and ask to speak to a manager, and the manager doesn't even bother to pick up the phone, and just advices them to let me know that a complaint team will give me a call back to file a complaint form. WHY on earth do I have to waste my entire day on the phone with the customer service, because of an incompetent and asshole drivers. read more

They need to retrain their delivery men. This was not the first time they did not try to call or leave any notice, I didn't know until the I tracked my package online and it said Delivery Attempted - recipient not home. I don't know if they just didn't feel like walking up to the apartment unit so decided to just leave. I would never picked DHL again. Service was terrible. I called the service centre and they were not helpful either. I would definitely other carriers over DHL. read more

I own a small company... About 4 years back I needed to ship some items from Vancouver to Los Angeles, I ended up in a DHL depot to make a business account as they said it would bring down the prices. I ultimately ended up going with FedEx. Which I am glad I did. From that day on, I constantly receive phone calls at random times of the day, and night... More recently around 3-4AM from DHL. I continue to tell them to remove me from the list, and block their number. but the numbers kept changing. I tried for hours to get a hold of DHL, and I finally managed to get thru to leave a message. The next time they called, which was a day later, I decided to play as an interested customer. Turns out they have ALL my personal and business information from the time I went into their office. They just needed an updated security number from my credit card which he had on file. I asked to speak to a supervisor and that's when they hung up. I called back and went to a personal DHL employee's voice mail. I decided to call DHL until I got a hold of someone. I gave them all the info of the caller, and they told me that employee was terminated a year ago and that he no longer works for DHL. I asked where he was located, and he said in the U.S... So it wasn't the person I met with in person that just copied my info, this person must have taken the personal information from their online database. I asked DHL what they are going to do about it, and they just told me to continue to block their number. read more

Wow!!! Why does anyone use this courier!? Never had any "major" concerns with the big guys (Fed Ex and UPS), when it comes to having my parcels delivered on time, and with minimal need for phone contact. But, I'm surprised these people are able to tie their shoes in the morning (must wear slip-ons, or velcro straps). Business parcel was shipped as a 2-day parcel from U.S. to Canada; now on day 8 (including the weekend), and trying to get someone on the phone seems like an impossibility!!! After spending 10 minutes listening to their voice prompts, which explain in detail what they see as the most common scenarios a caller could be calling for, and trying to push you toward handling your grievances on their web portal rather than speaking to their clients in person, I would constantly be redirected to the main voice menu to make another selection (great customer service!). As for the comment from Derrick regarding the status upgrade because someone took the time to call him back several hours later - Come on!? I'd rather have an operator "immediately" tend to my concerns before they became an issue, than some exec calling me up after they've already infuriated me with their ridiculous delays. Personally, the 1 star rating I've just given them is way too high for their incompetent level of service. Whoever runs this company should definitely be replaced. read more

A complete comedy of errors...worst service I have EVER received. If this wasn't such an important delivery I would be laughing. Disgusted with this organization. Have been waiting days upon days for an important delivery, they keep giving me the run around. I spent over a thousand dollars for an important delivery from China, they delivered 2 of the 4 parcels I was expecting and have no answer as to why the other parcels were not delivered.. Dhl sucks! Their call agents lie...they take camplaints and just apologise to you instead of correcting themselves and call it resolved. I have used ups and FedEx before and they have awesome customer service and charge you less for shipping too. read more

agent P Chen in Ontario is the absolute worst employer I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. Poor communication dhl half which resulted in sending my package back to shipper without my consent or knowledge and still telling me to pay duties and taxes. Rude agent. Giving it 1 star is more than what it deserves. No delivery on day arranged with Brampton rep (scheduled for a Friday, between 10 and 6pm. Customer service of no help, can't tell me status of my package other than its scheduled for delivery the next day on a Saturday, which they don't deliver on. Brampton rep told me my duty charge is $29 call centre rep says $24. Why is this company still in business. I will never order from a company that uses this carrier for shipments. read more

Everytime DHL comes to my door there is some fee to pay them. When UPS or other couriers come, I never have to pay a ransom to get my package. The two times I've had DHL deliver something I've owed them 30% + of what I've paid for the item. I tried to call and find out why when they deliver business cards to I owe them duty, fees and taxes (this is a repeating order but DHL delivered it once and its the only time I had to pay more money at the door to recieve my package) but they just have an automated blurb... you can never get a voice. read more

It seems it hasn't changed much since 2012. I bought a printer in Australia and paid 90$ for EXPRESS delivery since I want my package for Christmas. Package was pick up on Dec 11th get to Canada on 15th and then a custom agent ask for more information. Seems there was a problem with value and they need to contact me. The shipping company had not supplied my phone number on the way bill so DHL call them to get it and company has supplies it on 18th. It took 4 days before they ask for my info and since no one call me, instead the shipping company send me an Email stating that I 've better call DHL. which I did. I've corrected all my personal infos on their database and fill out the POA they ask me to do the same day. I still don't know why since no one ever call me to clarify the custom agent demand. I received a letter from DHL by regular mail on the 24th. A LETTER BY REGULAR MAIL TO ASK ME TO CONTACT THEM" What an EXPRESS SERVICE IT IS. I then call again to see what was happening and ask to speak to someone in authority. I was force to complain to get someone on the line. The lady send me 2 more form to fill which I did and then nothing happened to my package. I call again 3 days later and lady told me that a mail was sent on the 23rd that I have not respond...no mail ever leaved their computer which fact was confirmed later on. They charge me 70$ for duty and 20$ more for their fees which I was forced to pay if I want my package. We are now January 3rd 2015 and still no package. No one took the phone to call me they always rely on mail which they take 2-3 to respond...that is EXPRESS behavior indeed! You are force to do all the call and no one care. They got your money and too bad for your package I'm still waiting for my package, Nothing I can do. It's been 22days for an EXPRESS DELIVERY and 90 USD for this kind of service. I call back and demand a complete refund which they only reimburse 20$ fees and refused to take any responsibility. IF you need a package delivered rapidly...or just delivered you better ask a brainless slug to delivered it it will be by far better and faster then DHLEXpress for God sake. read more

I have spent hours on the phone to DHL UK and Canada trying to get the two to communicate. Meanwhile my wedding dress is being thrown in the back of vans and is two days late for delivery. I ordered a package from the US. Paid a hefty amount for shipping with DHL. Then I was charged more money from DHL for shipping, claiming it is for duty. When I mentioned the free trade agreement between USA and Canada, they changed their story to a charge to clear customs. oh boy. where do I start. I don't like to be negative and I've never left a bad review but this one takes the cake. If I could give minus stars, I would. So let me take you on a journey. There was a beautiful dress for sale online at Anthropologie. I hummed and hawed about it for weeks. It was the perfect dress for my sisters rustic BC wedding. Little bit of fall colours, little bit of sex appeal, it had it all. After debating about it for over a month I finally bit the bullet and purchased the $300 dress. EEK! After taxes, shipping and conversion to Canadian funds, the dress was almost $500. I didn't care. I was in love. For the next 7-12 business days I tracked my shipment daily. Excited that it was making its way from Pennsylvania up to meager little Saskatoon Sk. On the 5th day, it cleared customs. It was getting close. I could barely contain myself. On an unassuming Tuesday morning I came home from grocery shopping to find a beautiful little package sitting nicely on my front door. GOOD thing we were having a late winter and there was no snow. It did dawn on me that it was kind of strange to leave such a valuable bag outside my door. What if someone stole it! The thought quickly vanished, for my beloved had finally shown up. I rushed my children into the house. Tore open the bag. I didn't even wait to walk to the closet and proceeded to undress right in the entry way. The dress was on me, little bunched here, little tight there. But it felt divine. I ran over to the hall mirror, that's when devastation hit. My beautiful dress looked no better than a moomoo on me. It draped in all the wrong places, and hugged every single indecent curve. Well this is just not going to work, I said to myself. With it being pricey, I quickly packaged it back up and shipped it back via good old Canada post. My heart was broken. 2 months after this fiasco I received a bill from DHL in the mail of around $380. Since that was around the same price as the dress and the Canadian dollar had been taking a steady dive lately, I thought it was just a receipt. I did think it was weird they were giving me a receipt, but didn't really put too much thought into it. About two weeks after that bill came, I started receiving phone calls from DHL. I ignored them at first, as I have two kids and not enough time to talk to what I thought was a telemarketer. Finally one morning while my son was losing it over cheerios (he wanted honey nut, we only had plain. it's a daily struggle) the phone rang and I answered it without thinking. It was the collections agency for DHL. They were phoning to inform me I was past due on the $380 I owed them and would be taking me to collections soon if I didn't pay. At first I was so stunned 'what are they talking about??' After some heated discussions with the collections agency I was redirected to the brokerage department so they could explain to me why I owed $380 in fees on a dress I already paid almost $500 for. AND a dress I had already returned and been credited back to my card. The brokerage department let me know that I owed duties, taxes and a small brokerage fee. hmmmm, why do I owe almost 100% in duties, taxes and fees on a shipment? they couldn't explain that to me. I was informed to call Canada customs about this as it was out of their hands. So I did. I got a great woman Martha (Hi Martha!) who explained to me that DHL was lying. On a few important issues. like for example, do you know they can't legally leave something on your doorstep and then send you a bill for it? you have not consented to pay that amount of money and were not given the right of refusal. She put it this way, if they had rang the doorbell and I had answered, handed me the package and said 'ok you owe us $380, how will you be paying?', would you have paid the money? I said I would not have. She said exactly, that I would have refused the package and they would have been forced to send it back to the sender. By leaving it on your doorstep, mailbox or wherever and then billing you after the fact, they are actually breaking the law. after this enlightening conversation I phoned DHL back. I was transferred 7 times to 3 different department. I finally got a woman that would at least listen to me when I spoke, although they were heated discussion. I had to email her some information about my returning of the dress and she was supposed to forward it on to her legal team. I was told they would be in contact with me within one week. That was two months ago. So I'm not entirely sure where I stand with DHL. They haven't contacted me again about this. I am a little fearful that in a few more months i'll get another arbitrary bill that they will expect me to pay for a piece of merchandise that I no longer have. However my story needs to be heard I think. read more

This is the worst company to be associated with. The tracking online option does not work, I had to call over 20 times in ONE WEEK to figure out where my package was. They kept promising that they would deliver the package, then it would say that there was no one home. First they said that we provided no postal code, then told us the postal code doesn't work. I was told that the drivers do not call the recipients prior to delivery, which is a stupid policy. I spoke to so many associates, no one provided me with solid information. I had to make sure someone was home each day of the week so that we don't miss the package, but in reality no attempt was even made. When I finally received my package, the driver told us that most days they didn't even have the package on the truck. So we were being lied to. This is a ridiculous company with stupid rules. Avoid using this company for deliveries at all costs. If I could put zero stars for this review I would. read more

I purchased a watch and wallet from FOSSIL for my boyfriend's gift for Christmas. At first, everything was okay. DHL sent me a text stating my package had been shipped which I thought was pretty cool as I wasn't expecting updates via text. So I started to keep track online and they sent me another text on Friday 9th saying my package would be delivered that day somewhere between 11am-9pm and that it needed to be signed. Since no one was at home I asked my manager to leave work early that day to make sure I could retrieve it in case it came early. Then it said it was expected to arrive at 4pm. Well I waited those full 10 hours and left work early and NOTHING. No updates online either and the offices were closed by then, obviously. Fast forward to Monday I call Customer Service and no one answers. Finally someone picks up and tells me it couldn't be delivered due to weather delays (snowed in Vancouver), which is completely understandable but some kind of update would have been nice! So then I get another update on the 14th saying my package was on it's way... Then it says it was "delivered at the location" which it was not!! I start freaking out because there's no way I'm about to lose this expensive gift! I called customer service and they said they will update me in two hours but I thought absolutely not waiting! I knock on a couple doors in my neighbourhood and where was it? Two doors down. One digit difference in the address. I was livid. If I didn't knock on some doors and if they weren't able to retrace their steps.. then what! Anyways, that was my first time having a shitty experience with online shopping and shipping. But I won't ever be using DHL again, that's for sure. read more

I am thoroughly disappointed with my DHL experience. Had been waiting all day for my package to arrive (I was super excited about it and checked their website tracking like every 20 min for any update). Got a text message saying that they attempted delivery and nobody was home. I work from home and was home all day. They did not ring the buzzer (same # as the apt #) and left no failure delivery slip. Called the customer service and told them I had been home all day and that nobody attempted to ring my buzzer. The best solution they could do was to either have me go to the airport (45 min drive one way) to pick up my package that evening or the next day or have them attempt delivery again the next day. I went with option 2 but am not happy at all about it. I feel like they should have sent the driver back as the "attempt" was complete BS. They told me that the driver was too busy to come back today. Seems like he was too busy to ring a buzzer as well. I know that they can get away with bad service because they are a big company and generally when ordering online there is not much control over who the shipper uses as the courier company. I just feel like tomorrow will likely be more of the same and am wondering if I will ever get my package. I have zero faith that they will actually attempt the delivery again tomorrow and am pretty certain that I will have to end up driving to the airport and wasting an hour and a half to pick up a package that was supposed to be expedited express delivery. I just feel like when as a customer I am paying to have something delivered to my apartment that more effort should be put in to me actually being able to get it. Why could they send me a text that they missed me but could't send a text 5 min before the driver got there so I could be at the door waiting for my package? I am not understanding how if I am not sitting outside my building waiting from between 11am -9pm ( that was the delivery window I had originally gotten) that I just don't get my package unless I want to drive to the airport? Do people who don't have the luxury of working from home always have to drive to the airport ( I live in Edmonton and that is the only place you can pick up your DHL packages apparently) to pick up DHL packages? This seems like a very flawed system. Hopefully someone from DHL actually reads this and can think of constructive ways to solve this issue or maybe they don't care because they are big enough that they think their customers don't matter. I know I will be taking it up with the company that I ordered the item from if my package is not delivered tomorrow. read more

I ordered a package coming from China almost a month ago and still have not recieved it due to DHL's carless attitude. I was constantly watching the tracking updates and it was supposed to arrive Monday April 20th. It was never delivered so three days later I rechecked the tracking update and it said "address information required" so I contacted the customer service. I was told they could not find my address to deliver the package.....!!! 1. I was not contacted through phone or email to be informed of this I had to call myself to find out why the package was still not delivered. 2. They are a courier company! It is their job to find the addresses of people. With the technology available today there is absolutely no excuse as to why they were unable to find a house even if it is in a relatively remote location! I confirmed that the address I had given them was correct. They said I had two options, a) give an alternate address for it to be dropped off at or b) pick it up in Kitchener (3 hour drive- No thanks!) So I chose the address of my parents house and then I was informed they would still be charging me 24 dollars upon delivery so after being furious I called again to inform them I would not be paying that because they would deliver my package a week late at an alternate address because it would be more convenient for their company instead of more convenient for their customer. The woman on the phone told me it was a duties charge not a shipping fee so I had to pay in order for it to be delivered. I then asked what she would do to compensate for all this inconvenience and she responded she would not do anything but I could write a review online about my dissatisfaction (what I am doing). I then tried to pay the duties charge online as they had suggested many times before the delivery so my parents were not inconvenienced even more by having to pay that charge if I was not there at the time of delivery. Of course I cannot actually do this online because Canada is not in the country section of the availability to pre-pay online. I am extremely disappointed with this company and their lack of effort to fix the situation. I am a huge online shopper and I can absolutely guarantee any company that chooses to use DHL to deliver their packages will no longer be recieving any money from me! read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would! DHL was supposed to deliver a package to me today and I live in an apartment building. We do not have a buzzer as we do not have a home phone, But we left our cell phone # both with the sender and it was on the DHL form and all tracking. Our apartments main office is also in the main entrance and always open and they allow all delivery people into the building(we have never had problems with other deliveries and we order a lot online). The courier decided that instead of attempting at all to deliver the package, or to even leave a call back sheet, but to instead just write in our tracking that they couldn't deliver it and now we have to pick the package up in a town that is a 45 min drive away from our house! why the hell would anyone pay shipping charges just to have to drive 45 min to get something? This company is an absolute joke. So now I have to spend 1.5 hours driving, about $30 in gas and a day off work to pick up something I paid to have delivered to my house, all because their delivery people are incompetent. Absolutely an rubbish company. Summary: lost passport and cancelled vacation without refund. Passport came in, attempted delivery failed to deliver. They left that ticket to call. Organized a day for delivery, waited whole day no passport. Called and routed to a different address. No delivery. Next morning, Dahl told me they lost it. But promised to run a search . No answer for the day. Made so many calls. Every time they said a team leader will call me. But no. At 4.30 pm again on my call, they have located the package. They wanted me to come and pick it up. Made my 50km trip. Now they can't find it. Waited on the premise for 2 hours. They came back and said , it is with the delivery guy. Promised to have it delivered on the nite. Half an hour later they called me and said they have lost it. Full of lies and bullshits. Now ordered a new passport, which will take 10 days to get to us from NZ. I wish I can give it no stars. I ordered something from Neiman Marcus through border free shipping. After a few days of waiting for the parcel I decided to track my parcel. TO my surprise it said the parcel had been shipped and signed for 2 days ago. I was shocked because I have not received my parcel and nor did I sign for any package. When I asked for proof of signature it read NSR (no signature req). I decided to send in a complaint to DHL and also to Neiman Marcus. Neiman marcus is following it's due procedure and are inquiring with border free to find out what happened. DHL called me and basically told me tough luck and to call Neiman Marcus to reimbursement me! I spoke with Neiman Marcus who were very patient and caring through the entire process. I will also contact Borderfree to complain about this company and ask them to review DHL's history with customers and to re-evaluate their contract with a dishonest company. read more

They casually tell you via email that you need to wrote down address and etc then when it's done they ''estimate'' the price it will be and then you need to pay again for the delivery... Hell , their website when it comes to paid said that the transaction is not complete. I did it a second time , same result. I called my credit card to be sure I will not pay 2 times and they told me that maybe the transaction is incomplete because the address is different from my credit card... Wow DHL didn't send me email or calling me to tell me that....I called them and it's tough to have someone on the phone the bot just keep on talking and telling you to go on their website, and ho while you wait there's that women voice saying : our enterprise is built specially to serve it's customer whit the power of the yellow....yeah really, anyway... All what I said is 5 days of juggling email to email and confusion over confusion and thinking to myself god damn i'm a hamster in is wheel and when i get out of that wheel theirs a maze afterward... Not very impressed so far. Tried to create a shipment using their website. The website is glitchy and the layout rather archaic and confusing. The online forms are very tricky to fill as they keep giving error messages after filling each field. It takes a couple attempts before you can complete a simple form. After that, I had to to submit my request 3 times before it finally went through (I didn't do anything different just kept trying again). The website says it gives you the option to schedule a pickup, but they have to charge your credit card first before you can do that. When the charge went through I got an error message that a "pick up cannot be scheduled at this time, please try again later". I find that very deceptive of them. They charge you first, then they tell you the service isn't available! I kept trying to reschedule the pick up several hours later but still got same error message. I tried calling their "hotline" but it was pretty useless. It's a user UN friendly automated system that is designed to keep pushing you to use their website (which doesn't work anyway), When I finally found the option to speak to a live agent, I got a message that they are closed Saturdays and Sundays. Seriously? This is an international courier company, based on the kind of worldwide business they are in (especially express deliveries they call it "express" for a reason - they are urgent!), it's not reasonable to shut down completely on a weekend. The world doesn't stop DHL! And finally, as if it couldn't get any worse, I checked if they have a pick up point/service centre/office and guess what? They have only one office and it is located in a suburb 2 hours away from me, and I live in downtown Ottawa the capital of Canada!! DHL is very behind and needs to wake up and look at it's competition. Fedex and UPS have 24/7 LIVE customer service and functioning websites and Purolator has agents all over the city that are open even on weekends for a drop off. Whereas DHL is stuck in the 80's.
