We needed some ice cream to cool us off. Who are we kidding, I'll eat ice cream anytime, but it was a great excuse for ice cream. So Cowan's Dairy is a convenience store plus an ice cream shop. We did not go into the convenience store, we just ordered ice cream from the ice cream window. They have both hard ice cream from Nestle and soft serve ice cream. I initially wanted a scoop of Cherry Cola and half a scoop of Apple Pie (you can get 1 scoop, 1 1/2 scoops or 2 scoops), but they ran out of Apple Pie, so I just got a scoop of the Cherry Cola. My husband, the strange man who he is, got a scoop of Heavenly Hash and a scoop of Mint Chocolate Chip in a waffle cone. Now this order in in itself does not make him strange, but in my opinion, if I'm going to an ice cream shop that serves Nestle ice cream, I'm gonna get me a flavour that I can't easily get at the grocery store. We have Heavenly Hash and Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream in our own freezers at home all the time!! I guess he likes what he likes! And as his wife of many years, I should appreciate that and not call him strange, right? Well, I don't necessarily think strange is a pejorative word. My husband knows he's strange, and he owns and rocks it, lol, but I am digressing from this review. I thoroughly enjoyed my Cherry Cola ice cream. The flavour was subtle and it didn't have that effervescent quality that I was hoping for, but it was still very good. And very different from flavours that I can easily obtain at the grocery store. My husband enjoyed his ice cream too, lol. The one thing I did not like was that no prices were listed. So I actually don't know how much each item cost. We paid $9.16 taxes included for 1 single scoop in a regular cone and 1 double scoop in a waffle cone. The serving size was large. My cone was really big. I really liked that in addition to traditional flavours they had unusual/more exotic flavours. Service was friendly and efficient. Lots of free parking in their private parking lot. There are picnic tables nearby where you can sit and eat. They are right next door to George's Fish and Chips.

Ok but yelp listing misleading. Was expecting local dairy ice cream. Instead basic fudge and ice…read morecream shop serving several flavours of Chapmans commercial ice cream. Their one dairy free offering strawberry sorbet sold out during mid week visit.

In the summer, it's pedestrian only on the area right around St Catherine, so it's easy to get around on foot and see all the stages and sights. The present-day Quartier des spectacles largely overlaps the site of Montreal's former Red Light district, whose history extends back to the beginning of the 19th century. Between the 1920s and the start of the 1960s, the neighborhood was home to an impressive number of cabarets that headlined famous artists. Montreal garnered a reputation as a fun-loving city, and tourists started to arrive in great numbers. The American Prohibition (1920-1933) increased Montreal's popularity, but also created conditions that led to the growth of organized crime, prostitution and illegal gaming houses. It is during this time that the neighborhood was christened the Red Light district. Beginning in the 1950s, professional theatre started to take hold.... in this neighborhood, the new energy took shape in the construction of Place des Arts, the metro system (three stations service the Quartier) and in the establishment of Hydro-Québec's headquarters. The following decade was marked by the building of Complexe Desjardins, which spurred commercial activity in the area, and the campus of the Université du Québec à Montréal, a university founded on the values of the democratization of knowledge and culture. In 1982, the Montreal International Jazz Festival presented outdoor concerts in the neighborhood for the first time. The natural vibrancy of the downtown area along with the many empty lots supported the proliferation and expansion of festivals over the years. Important cultural events became one of the Quartier's motors and one of the principal attractions of the city for tourists and locals alike.

We arrived on a Tuesday night to Montreal and because we were staying 13 mins walk from Quartier des Spectacles, we came here for a visit. We didn't expect that there would be performance happening at night in the center of Quartier des Spectacles (near Desjardin Complex). At the Quartier des Spectacles, you will find a lot of restaurants and as mentioned before the entrance to the beginning of the Underground Tunnel is located at Desjardin Complex. This part of the city is quite busy after 10 am to 11 pm. Places des Art is also located smack center at the Quartier des Spectacles for those who wants to watch any live orchestral performances. https://www.quartierdesspectacles.com/fr/carte/#places-publiques-animees

I love to find a mom and pop place I could be loyal to but I am afraid my first experience was just ok. I had no problem waiting a hour and 10 mins because they weee very busy. The staff were very nice when I came to pick up my food. So no problems like others have stated in past reviews. We all have good days and bad days so I never judge the experience on staff alone. The Food: The veal parm sandwich with salad was ok- the veal was prepared properly as it was soft and moist ( they must of soaked it in milk). The flavor- was ok and the bread was very good and held up as a sandwich. The Zucchini Fries were tasteless and a great deal of water came through every bite. They were not seasoned properly- it is almost like you have to over season to help with not just taste but to absorb the water from the veg. The combo appetizers were also not seasoned. In a good note, the cheese sticks were nice. The wings were very small and dry, not enough sauce on them. The mushrooms held up well. Would I go again, I think I will try because of the good reviews I have read on YELP. Also the pizza being made right in the front looked good. There's a lot to see and do here; the promenade is quite long, and is filled with great views of the water and surrounding architecture. One of the main focal points here is La Grande Roue de Montréal - a large Ferris wheel that sits right on the water's edge. Additionally, there are carnival rides, food trucks, ziplining, and a beach that's open seasonally. Since I was there in autumn, most of the attractions and beach areas were closed for the season. It was still a great experience though because there were clear views of the water and foliage in the background. I also found myself sitting, people watching, and soaking in the aesthetics. No matter what time of the year, though, it's definitely worth stopping here during your time in Montreal.
