I had read about this mural before coming up here to do the nearby rail biking, which is less than a mile from here. According to information on the wall, this 180 foot mural was started in 2011 by a local artist with the assistance of many volunteers. You can tell this is truly a labor of love and they still maintain it on a regular basis. This piece of art is so intricate with many beautiful colors. I greatly enjoy the Adirondacks and miss Upstate NY (where I spent most of my life), so I love how the mural illustrates all of the amazing activities that there are to do in this region. We see people tubing, kayaking, biking, rafting, fishing and skiing. I highly recommend seeing this beautiful art if you are passing through town, it will only take you 5 minutes.

It seems that at some point it was moved here to the parking lot of a business from a shorter concrete slab in the woods. It's not really the tallest filing cabinet. It's a stack of regular-height filing cabinets attached to one another into a column, so it's less impressive or creative. Structurally, it is a vertical stack of separate cabinets turned into a sculpture, not a purpose-built giant cabinet with 38 drawers. It's covered by vandals' stickers and markings. It hasn't been treated and since they aren't meant to be outdoors, rust and weather damage has taken severe effect. Each drawer represents a year of bureaucratic delays related to a proposed highway project in Burlington called the Southern Connector, first proposed in 1965. Some of the drawers contain catalogued fragments of a shredded red Volkswagen Beetle. Of course, you can't see it though.

The old shops lining the street still look the same as they did 100 years ago. That's not to say they aren't kept up - certainly many of them are up-to-date and are really fun to browse. The main park in the center of town is great to walk around - not too big, not too small. This town has still maintained it's old charm while the modern era has crept in. You'll find the mega-store chains a little further down the road. Some nice older homes in the area. The pace here is slower than where you live, and you should be grateful for that.

We needed some ice cream to cool us off. Who are we kidding, I'll eat ice cream anytime, but it was a great excuse for ice cream. So Cowan's Dairy is a convenience store plus an ice cream shop. We did not go into the convenience store, we just ordered ice cream from the ice cream window. They have both hard ice cream from Nestle and soft serve ice cream. I initially wanted a scoop of Cherry Cola and half a scoop of Apple Pie (you can get 1 scoop, 1 1/2 scoops or 2 scoops), but they ran out of Apple Pie, so I just got a scoop of the Cherry Cola. My husband, the strange man who he is, got a scoop of Heavenly Hash and a scoop of Mint Chocolate Chip in a waffle cone. Now this order in in itself does not make him strange, but in my opinion, if I'm going to an ice cream shop that serves Nestle ice cream, I'm gonna get me a flavour that I can't easily get at the grocery store. We have Heavenly Hash and Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream in our own freezers at home all the time!! I guess he likes what he likes! And as his wife of many years, I should appreciate that and not call him strange, right? Well, I don't necessarily think strange is a pejorative word. We paid $9.16 taxes included for 1 single scoop in a regular cone and 1 double scoop in a waffle cone. The serving size was large. My cone was really big. I really liked that in addition to traditional flavours they had unusual/more exotic flavours. Service was friendly and efficient. Lots of free parking in their private parking lot. There are picnic tables nearby where you can sit and eat. They are right next door to George's Fish and Chips.
