RENTER BEWARE!!!!
If you choose to use this rental car company, be EXTREMELY BEWARE!!! Make sure you video and/or photograph everything on the vehicle, because you may need it later.
We rented a Lexus RX350 from them, nothing special. There were some minor scratches and dents on it, as most rentals have, and the girl checking us in was very nice. During our stay in St. Thomas I hit a curb and blew out a tire. We contacted them right away and they came out within minutes to switch the tire for us. That's when we learned A LOT!! The men changing the tire took a photo and sent it to their boss. The next thing I know I'm on the phone with the boss and he's telling me he's charging us also for a rim because it got scratched. Not dented, not damaged, but scratched. After looking closer at all the rims, it was noticeable that every rim had scratches on them, and not only that, each tire only has 4 lug nuts out of 5. When I pointed all this out, I was told that he wasn't going to have one of his vehicles go around with a scratch on the rim and that when he bought the car each tire only had 4 lugs nuts on. I questioned then why did all the other rims have scratches on them, and also, if he had purchased it new, to which his only response was yes, he had purchased it new. I then told him, there was no way that if he purchased the car new it would have only had 4 out of 5 lug nuts on. Hoping that was the end of the issue and we would just be paying for a tire, after we returned home the next bill came for $1,072.99. The tire cost was reasonable, however, they did charge us for a rim and that amount was more than double what is should cost, as well as an additional special order shipping charge. When I called to question the amounts, he now was telling me it all had to be special ordered and because they live on an island things were more expensive. I get more expensive, but I've also travel enough to know when we are getting ripped off!! He asked me if I knew what a gallon of milk costs there, when I responded with my answer, he stuttered and then just tried to say that he didn't have control over the prices. I again brought up that the rim was not damaged and was just scratched and about the missing lug nuts, at which point he told me to then just contact our credit card company and dispute the charge. Needless to say that was useless, as all the City Visa did was reverse back the credit they gave us and send us a copy of our rental agreement from them, which we already had. It didn't matter if we had photos proving our facts, so I'm not sure which is worse, Dexter rental company or City Visa. read more
