Seaport Elite Private Yachts - A view for the happy couple

    Seaport Elite Private Yachts

    Waterfront, South Boston

Friend: So my company is having our office party on a yacht this summer…read more Me: That's soooo cool. Friend: Yah I know. And I'm allowed to bring a guest and since I'm single I figured yo-- Me: YES! The Seaport Elite Yacht is charted by the same company as The Spirit of Boston - but this yacht is smaller so it works well for more intimate parties. So what goes on here? Let me tell you. *A young DJ plays some of the WORST music you could ever imagine-so bad you HAVE to love it. Thankfully he takes requests like Britney Spears' "Piece Of Me" to which my friend and I ended up horrifying a bunch of 40-somethings who work with her. But don't worry, they eventually got drunkies and embarrassed themselves to Earth, Wind, and Fire. *Unlimited appetizers followed by a lovely dinner below deck in their dining room (the food was better than average, I'd say 3 or 4 star worthy). *Gorgeous views of Boston Harbor and its surroundings--from skyscrapers to bridges, ships to islands. Check the attached photos. *Oh, and there was something else...oh yeah...FREE BOOZE! The staff on board was fantastic - polite, attentive, and quick to serve. Be sure to bring cash because although you're not buying anything on board, these people definitely deserve tips for their hard work. All in all, there's nothing quite like sipping a Corona with lime on the deck of a yacht on a gorgeous day in late May--probably one of my most memorable experiences as a Bostonian. If you ever have the opportunity to plan an event, I strongly recommend checking out this charter yacht. And if you're ever invited to an event and need a buddy, well, I'd be glad to be your boyfriend for the evening. Kissies on the poop deck, natch!

My husband and I got married on the Seaport Elite this August. Everything was fabulous. Everyone is…read morestill talking about the wedding. Some said (not directly to us but we were told) it was the best wedding they had ever been to. The wedding coordinator/company was very thorough at making sure all the details were covered. There is a bridal suite on board, the staff was very helpful, the food was delicious and they even provided a DJ for a few extra hundred dollars. We went with the portside lunch menu which included all the appetizers and a buffet dinner with carved beef, salad, two pasta dishes (one with ample shrimp and mussels) and the appetizers were plentiful and scrumptious. With the portside menu the food is continuously replenished until everyone is done eating (which is great). Also included were chocolate covered strawberries served with dessert. Our cake from Kondeiter Meisters was amazing. We also chose to provide free beer and wine for our guests for the first hour and it was nice because the staff butlered beer and wine. Everyone was able to have a few in that first hour. After that the drinks were $6 to $8 each. The company offered us a $500 credit towards a drink package so it made the hour much more affordable. We had our ceremony on the rooftop overlooking the Boston skyline, which limited our guests to 70 people. My only complaint of the ceremony was that a microphone was needed and the set up of the chairs made it impossible for me to walk down a full aisle with my father. If the staff had spent more time pondering the setup it would have been possible. That was my only real disappointment. It was hard for the DJ to keep track of what was happening since the boat has 3 floors but everything went fine. The views were absolutely amazing. For a wedding I recommend 5 hours; we had 4 and it was too short. It is also not a handicap accesible boat, but the staff will help anyone who needs help walking or with stairs. You also need to consider the conditions that will affect your wedding once leaving the dock: waves, wind, rain, other boats, etc. We happened to have a windy day with 2 minutes of rain right during the ceremony. There were sailboats everywhere. We highly recommend a wedding on the Seaport Elite. The one downside is that the wedding coordinator who helps to plan your wedding may not be the one who is there on the day of and that can cause some small issues (ex. the chair and the aisle issue we had). You also are not expected to tip on top of the price for the wedding, although we did tip the food manager and the dj since everything was so great.

We originally planned to set sail, however, due to inclement weather reports on the day of the charter, we jointly decided to reschedule for another time and did not set the reschedule date at that moment because my party size was large, 15, and I needed to repoll the group on another feasible date. My group worked together to select a reschedule date, which the company made for a Saturday. The Tuesday before, we found out that one of our co-workers has COVID. As a result, all of us were potentially exposed. Out of concern for the safety of the crew and captain, I reached out by text message on Wednesday to inform them of the situation and figure out how to proceed. My coworker who had COVID also tried to contact you to find a resolution but could not reach them by phone. We received an email stating they unable to reschedule on this charter, and could do a cancellation that would result in a partial refund. They did not offer the option to reschedule to a fee, and said short of canceling, the charter would be scheduled to take place on Saturday with full awareness of the situation I expressed. I responded saying that we would like to proceed with Saturday in this case. I again emphasized that we had been exposed, and they cancelled without calling or communicating. After repeated calls and emails from Saturday to Wednesday, and finally a warning to report to the FTC for poor business practice, only half of my payment was returned. Nothing in the contract allowed them to retain it. So- beware. If you book, make sure you are going and don't expect your money back if you need to make a change for anything reasonable like being honest about a COVID exposure

The sail boat, called the Tupelo Honey, can carry up to 12 people. I'd lived in Boston for several years but had never been on a sail boat there. I had previously been on boat cruises around the harbor. We were back in town for a visit and I saw an advertisement for this harbor tour. I absolutely love sailing and wanted to try it out. I called a day before we hoped to go on a sail and asked if they had any times available. Generally, the cost is about $25/person. But because we didn't have a large group, only two of us wanted to go, there was a minimum price to take the sailboat out. That was $140.00, which was fine with us. We had an absolutely fantastic time! The captain and other crew member were very hospitable, friendly and really easy-going. They asked us if we wanted to stay near the buildings to see the scenery or to go further out into the harbor and let us make the decision. I would definitely do this again and it was well worth the money. It couldn't have been better. Call at least a day in advance to make sure that they have room to take you out for a sail. Their website says that you can take a T-Boat (affiliated with the MBTA subway, the T) to a nearby pier and walk.

His boat is clean and steady. We went lobster fishing. The boat is so steady, it wasn't rocking around too much. Rick gave us each a job to do. One was to record how many lobsters in the trap, which were keepers and which we had to throw back because it was either female (breeder) or too small. I had the job of measuring the lobster for size. Rick taught us that if it's a breeder, you clip the tail to indicate that it's a breeder. My sister in law was recording the number caught in each trap. My brother in law helped with steering the boat (he has a boat too.) My husband helped with gathering the lobster trap with a pole. I didn't know pig skin is used as bait. Although I was nervous, Rick kept me busy with putting bands on the lobster claws. I became an expert at it. At the end of the day, Rick put our catch on the grill. Let me tell you, grilled lobsters are the best! Especially when it's fresh out of the ocean. There was also a small crab in the catch too. I had forgotten about being nervous in the boat. Definitely book a trip with Rick, he makes boating fun! Even for people with anxiety being in the water. I want to go boating again with Rick this summer! I'm not anxious with Rick. He's great! Maybe this time I'll learn to fish!

The rental price is hourly with a 2 hour minimum and includes the captain and one crew member. Plenty of room for setting up food, we had half catered and half our own. Restaurants at the dock happy to accommodate. Lots of space on this yacht to sit, wander and enjoy the ocean views. Bring your own download music from spotify or apple they have a music system. Captain Kevin and crew were very accomodating. Captain is highly experienced with Boston Harbor and crew helped set up the food and was all around a help and pleasant. Very understanding to the different needs of clients from parties to business meets. The sail was smooth and wouldn't know you were on a yacht no rolling or rocking, just beautiful views everywhere. We couldn't ask for a better trip. I booked through an on line site which eventually was routed to Sunset Yacht Rentals, they have a website. The rental was easy with documents signed through edoc ,deposit with credit cards, easy smooth transaction. The yacht has a mini hot tub, 4 bedrooms, indoor and outdoor seating venues on the yacht, full bathrooms. A cart at the dock made it easy to load the food and beverages. There is parking on Victory Rd. up to 2 hours, we were out for 3 and had several vehicles. None of us had a problem. Also a parking garage about a 10 minute walk. I rented the Trilogy for sea burial of ashes for my father. Will come back next year and rent for a party with family and friends once co-vid is more manageable.
