After researching vets in this area, we decided to try Dewitt. During our initial visit for a checkup and vaccines we found all of the staff to be lovely. Today we had to do a follow up visit and had another great experience. The vet tech, Francesca, is amazing. She asked great questions and took detailed notes about Peanut's condition. Dr. McNulty has been all my cats doctor. She shows patience with our questions and always takes the time to answer them. She was exceptionally great about seeing my very sick cat on such short notices. We were thankful for her helping my kitty during that time. I've been taking my pets to Dewitt for over 20 years. Each time I go I tell myself I won't go back. The wait is always long, even for a 2 minute vet tech appointment. Today they started charging for tech appointments along with an increase in the medication price. I don't know why because you don't need a degree to be one. It's a good way to lose customers for sure. I need to give my dog a chill protocol (which is expensive) and by the time he's actually seen it's worn off and he's a nervous wreck. The front end service is very poor. Dr. Bruce Hill is wonderful but he's semi retired and doesn't have many appointments. I would definitely not recommend Dewitt. Going there makes me so frustrated it ruins my entire day. read more

I would highly NOT recommend going to DeWitt at this juncture. They continue to always be booked, and will tell you that they are booked out the entire week even when the regular doctors are there. My dog had an earache - shaking her head, and starting to walk funny. This is on record with this hospital and what they utilized. They tell you to get the dog into an ER and Tufts and Baystate etc will tell you they will not take the dog for an earache as it's not an emergency in their eyes- and they don't understand why a vet would tell you that. So you end up calling around for nothing. Then they speak to a doctor filling in who states they don't just want to prescribe because my dog might lose hearing is what was relayed to my husband. There are certain antibiotics etc that can cause some loss that usually comes back. That's usually also because it doesn't dissolve right in a pets ear due to excessive ear wax. Amino glycoside antibiotics are known to potentially cause that it humans and dogs. I would think this vet "on call" would know that. Additionally letting an earache continue will cause hearing loss if it isn't treated, I would think the vet on call would have known that too. They prescribed something that they pose is an RX when in reality it's something you can pick up on Chewy for 7.40 versus 25 plus they charge, pretending like they did you a favor. Quite frankly- I would have chose something different if I had known that it wasn't a vet script. I feel like if you don't have a medical background, this place will attempt to take advantage of you. I did like Dr. Hill, the son, however I'm sorry with how this place operates - I won't bring either of my dogs there again. read more

It is very unfortunate that I have to write this review. My dog has only been to this vet a handful of times as she is only a puppy and all of my experiences have been great thus far. Except for my most recent experience which is unacceptable. I pulled a tick off my dog about two weeks ago. It was pretty large and being a first time dog owner I wasn't sure if I removed it properly or followed the right procedure. The following day I called dewitts immediately. I told them there was a large lump on her neck where I pulled the tick and I wasn't sure if I removed it all or properly. I was very concerned. They assured me over the phone I had nothing to worry about and it would heal on its own and it's normal. A few days later the bump had not decreased in size whatsoever so I started researching. After a few days it should have started to go down but it hadn't. I called dewitts a second time. I told them I was nervous that something wasn't right and wanted to know what I could do. Again, they told me not to worry and it was normal and to just let it be. One week went by and the lump is larger and turned into a scab. I walked into the facility and asked if anyone could take a look at my dog because I think something is not right. They said "we are booked today". They also told me "this will heal on its own and could take 7 weeks". Understandable, I wasn't expecting to be seen right away with no appointment but I thought maybe I could make a future appointment. It has now been about 10 days. The scab ripped open and has been a bloody open wound for 24 hours. I called again for my final time. I said to the receptionist I think my dog has an infection from the tick bite. I was told "we are only taking emergency appointments right now". (Due to coronavirus) I could not wait any longer. I called around to local vets to see if someone could see her. I was seen that day by a different vet. Sure enough, my dog has an infection from the tick bite. She is on antibiotics for 12 days. This is extremely disappointing and I know times are stressful with the coronavirus right now but if you don't plan on continuing to treat our pets as normal then you should just close the doors until this all goes away. Maybe I should have pushed harder and been more adamant about being seen but I just trusted they knew better than me and maybe I was paranoid. I will not be returning to this vet. I feel when I needed you most you let me down. I am not one to leave bad reviews but I searched the website for an email or contact and could not find one. I just hope this is useful and can prevent it from happening to someone else. read more

I cannot thank DeWitt Animal Hospital enough. My border collie broke his nail and his normal vet could not fit him in. I called multiple places because he was in a lot of pain and I was concerned about infection. They also didn't have room for an appointment, but told us to come down anyway. I've used Dewitt for over 15 years now. I always mean to write a review but forget. We just had a dreaded cat dental appointment. As you may or may not know a dental on a pet can be a shot in the dark because you only smell the bad breath (from an abscess or rotting tooth). Your pet will never say "Top two teeth on the left and that other one there on the right". Any surgical procedure involves an estimate so we were ready for a range of cost. Well the whole shebang was done in one day and the cat was home drooling that night. He's down a few teeth now. We have to vigilantly keep him off the dogs crunchy food for a few days but for now he's on the couch...angry with us for torturing him and taking away his bad breath defense mechanism! Saying goodbye to a pet can be a tough experience as well, but Dewitt made it as kind and caring a process as can be. We had two long lived and loved pets that we had to say goodbye to a few years apart..because the cruelty of time is the chance to let them into our hearts all the while knowing we will someday have to say goodbye. They did a fantastic job with the entire experience from making our pets comfortable to making a clay impression of their weathered paws. The Vets there are excellent. We always go to Dr. M. I've been taking my cats here for twelve years now. Dr Jen is our primary vet who is so awesome with our cats. They love her. Even one of my difficult female cats she is so patient with as Savannah is awful going in the car and at the vet. But we get through it thanks to Dr Jen. Dr Bruce Hill has also cared for our cats. He is excellent also as well as his two children that are practicing vets. I can't say enough positive things about their practice. We love all of them so much and the vet techs and front end staff are awesome. Everyone here really loves animals and what they do here. I live over an hour away just moved and I still travel here because of the excellent care my cats receive. And now they have special appointment times for cats when no dogs are coming in that is awesome for my female cat who hates dogs. read more

This is a hard review to write so it will be short. Recently our 13 year old cat, Riley, had some medical issues that resulted in our making the hardest decision anyone with pets will ever have to make. The staff at DeWitt was exceptional. From laying out our options to providing time and suggestions to make the difficult choices they were both professional and compassionate. When the time came for us to say goodbye, they provided a private room and a comfortable place for Riley. We were allowed to be with her through the entire process and then we were left to say out goodbyes in our own time and given a side exit to use instead of passing back through the waiting room. Before Dr. Mcnulty and the tech left the room they took an impression of Riley's paw and gave it to us as a permanent reminder of littlest family member. Today, another unexpected sign of how much the staff cares about their patients and those who love them. A sympathy card with hand written condolences and wishes arrived. If you have a need for a vet, I cannot recommend Dewitt Animal Hospital high enough. They are exceptional and their caring manner is evident in all they do. I would give zero stars if I could. After waiting for my dogs appointment for over an hour they came out to tell me that they could not see my dog for her appointment. When I asked why all I got was attitude and no real answer. My guess is they were running so late they had to send someone home to get back on track so they could go home at a reasonable time. Overall, not impressed. We brought our one year old cats in and it was basically a disaster. We had been bringing them to Lloyd Animal Medical in Stoughton where one received emergency care and for multiple rounds of kitten shots. They didn't have any issues there. The clinic is clean, the vets seem relatively nice, but the wait time and front desk staff are terrible. Our appointment was very late and one of my cats spent the entire time being barked at by multiple dogs and hissing back at them. We then waited for a while in the exam room as there was an emergency and the vet had to step out immediately from our appointment. I appreciate that this can happen and I don't blame them for the wait as I would hope emergencies would take precedence over well visits. By the time the appointment came, one of my cats was so wound up that they had to hold him with huge gloves to administer shots while he howled, bit, and screamed. They suggested sedating him but after over an hour, I was ready to just go. Afterward, I stood awkwardly by the front desk for 15 minutes waiting to check out, crying because it was so upsetting while my BF waited in the car with the cats. Finally, they helped me and seemed basically apathetic about trying to avoid this next year. I waited to write a review because I really hoped to be able to avoid this situation by getting the first appointment of the day and avoiding any dogs. I just called to try to schedule another annual visit at Dewitt and was basically told that we could only get appointments at 10am as they schedule surgery beforehand, they have boarding, etc, and the only option was to sedate my cat as there would always be dogs. Awesome. I guess I just got a little spoiled from a friendly staff at Lloyds who was always excited to see our cats. To make it even better, I just called Lloyd who were so sweet, suggested when to book to get the earliest appointment, and basically just seemed like they cared a lot more than the staff at Dewitt. read more

After some discussion, I have decided to increase my rating to 4 stars! As I mentioned initially, this was our puppy's first visit to the vet. He had been given meds for parasites by the breeder on a few separate occasions before we picked him up, and ideally this would have taken care of anything he might have picked up. Given that fact, it was unfair of me to say that the diagnosis was missed by Dr. Hill. Rather, parasites were the least likely cause of our puppy's digestive issues because he had just been medicated, and Dr. Hill recommended looking into a host of other possibilities which were more likely, such as change in food. I would definitely recommend Dewitt to anyone in the area. The staff was very knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly. Our sole reason for not returning was the distance, as they are about an hour away from where we live. read more

Not only are they very patient on the phone explaining how the surgical procedure will go they also did a great job keeping me up to date. We have been taking our animals there for quite some time now. Even now that I have moved 45 minutes away I was staying loyal to them. Recently I had some weight issues with my cat. So I drove 45 min away to be seen by a dr. Not only was the wait a little long but my cat is then diagnosed with diabetes a few days later by phone call.... I wasn't given my cats blood sugar level just that it was high, and told to go buy insulin and set up my next ALMOST WEEKLY appointments for a blood curve testing. When I saw how much I'd be spending on insulin which was OVER 300$ I decided it was time to changed vets to save money on gas at least. The front desk NEVER faxed over my cats records and thank god for their neglect on that. Because my new vet was then hesitant on insulin until knowing his levels. His level was 77... a cat with diabetes I'm suppose to be over 150.. and only do you give insulin if it's closer to the 200 range. If I would have started the insulin I would have killed my cat. Not only was $500 wasted on medications and appointments but now I'm second guessing all of my diagnoses ever received from this place. Oh and I've never received the fax of my records either. read more

I found Dewitt about 10 years ago when I found my cat limping. I called my Vet who couldn't see him for several days, which was concerning because my cat clearly was in pain. I called other offices but as a new patient they would not see us on an emergency basis. But, Dewitt got us right in, took an X-ray which did show a broken leg! We switched our care to Dewitt! The doctors are excellent! We have had a few other medical problems and they have worked hard to figure them out. Vet care is not cheap but they always do what is needed. They may offer other things (like sending my cat to a veterinarian orthopedic specialist!) but will always say what is really needed vs optional. They made me feel that it was ok to just use a cast!! Lastly, I have to say that the ladies in the front office are kind , always give good advice and always try to be helpful. I highly recommend! read more

We have been taking our dogs to Dewitts since we started owning pets 22 years ago. The dogs may change, and some of the vets too, but they are great. They have always treated us and our pets with the most respect and care. They are knowledgable and attentive. We had one of our pups so sick when we got him, but Dr. Hill never gave up. My dog was in distress in our yard yesterday and I had no idea what was wrong...didn't know if he had been stung by a bee inside his mouth or had ingested something....I called and they took him in right away. We couldn't see anything inside his mouth, so he had to be sedated....come to find out, there was a piece of wood/bark stuck across the back of the roof of his mouth...! I was so thrilled that they didn't make us wait, that they were able to figure out what was wrong and resolve it right away. And guess what? The cost was EXTREMELY reasonable! Phew! Our pets/family have been patients at Dewitt's for many years, through 5 dogs. The staff has always been friendly and caring. 2 years ago we adopted a 6 month old Boston Terrier. Within 2 weeks we discovered he was very, very sick and we could NOT say enough about the care we received. Unfortunately, after our visit there last week we will not be returning .... unless a change is made. They are discharging one of their fantastic vets this July so that Dr. Hill can hire yet another of his family. This is nepotism and we do not support that. Keep both vets! read more

I received a postcard in the mail with a variety of shots my dog needed for the year. Thankfully his rabies is up to date. I do need a bordatella shot for him as he is groomed and boarded occasionally. I was told that since he needs a well exam, which Can not be done until October, that I would need to go elsewhere. I have been going to this vet for 11 years. I spoke to the office manager who basically said sucks to be you we are not going to give your dog a simple shot. This was a family business and always very helpful until NOW. I am so disappointed by this. I have called Wrentham veterinary hospital, per their recommendation, by the way and was given an appointment next week. It sad to see while trying to support local businesses that this is the response we get. The elder Dewitt family for sure is rolling int their graves. Upon the recommendation of someone else I brought my pet to this practice. Front staff was very personable. Vet, not so much. Not a big deal since I'm there for quality pet care, not a social visit. They require an all day test for my diabetic cat. Made the appointment for March 15th, but had to cancel due to a snowstorm. Test can ONLY be done on a Wednesday and she would have to be dropped off by 8am and picked up by end of day. Life got away from me and I just completely forgot to reschedule. Requested a prescription refill for syringes, got denied and got this very RUDE email reply from Dr. Bruce Hill.... Reason for declined authorization: You have disregarded our and your prior veterinarian's treatment plan to have diabetic control assessed. This has not been done since insulin was started over a year ago. Your last prescription had the following note: We will not approve any more refills until Mimi has evaluation of diabetic control (blood glucose curve or fructosamine level). This has never been done since insulin therapy was started. You elected to find another veterinarian in December because they were requiring appropriate medical management. Feel free to do so again. Dr. Bruce Hill A simple, unfortunately, we can not provide a refill until the required test is completed would have been more than sufficient. The reference to my former vet and the assumption that I'm not willing to take care of my pet was unprofessional and unnecessary. I was with my former vet for many years with other pets as well. The reason for leaving had NOTHING to do with me not wanting to do the recommended tests. I have invested over $1500 in my cat so clearly I have not neglected taking care of her. I'm still in AWE with the rudeness from Dr. Hill. read more

Brought my precious dog in for a dental at 8:00AM. She was very scared and nervous. Broke my heart to drop her off but I knew she would be treated well. Well, I was so happy when Dr. Bruce Hill called around 12:30 and said she was done and did very well. When I came to pick her up, everyone from the receptionists to the techs said that they gave her extra TLC and that she had been in her kennel not more than 5 mins when another went to pick her up and cuddle her. I've brought my dog, with the same growth, to three different practices. I was very pleased with Dewitt because they saw that that even though the growth was large and bothering my dog (since it was in her ear) it was still superficial and could be cauterized to remove it. This was a huge relief to me since she is quite old and the stress of anestesia unnecessary. They also were willing to trust my judgement as well, which I greatly appreciate since I am a very hands on dog owner. read more

About 5 years ago, we used to take our dog to DeWitt's. The staff was unfriendly and seemed to care more about the monetary benefits than clients' pets. I specifically remember an instance when we brought our dog in for a wellness exam. Dr. Jen McNulty was seeing him that day. She was clearly afraid of him, granted he is a big dog and can be intimidating, but that is no excuse. She got so frustrated with him because he would not cooperate while she took his temperature. She scoffed and made a disgusted face. Our dog was so nervous that he ended up urinating on the table twice. He has never done that before. It was clearly because she was not handling him well. I believe I have been treated exceptionally unfairly there on a number of occasion and had to wait long times beyond my set appointment and then again long times pay after the appointment was over........ shots and meds were $700 the last time I was there. Called DeWitt Animal Hospital on a Thursday morning as my daughter's cat was having vomiting and diarrhea for a couple of days. I was a new patient and they gave me an appointment that very afternoon. The staff at the hospital were all very professional and caring and got me processed right away. Once in the exam room, Deanne was very calm and loving to our cat and as he was comfortable and felt safe sitting in the sink, pretty much the whole exam was done in the sink! Dr. Jennifer McNulty came in promptly, listened to the cat's symptoms, did an exam and suggested a few reasons for his distress. She was calm, petting the cat the whole time we talked. Dr. McNulty addressed all my concerns and came up with a treatment plan, medicine and cat food! My entire experience was great and all the staff were friendly and helpful. DeWitt has a new client and I will be making an appointment very soon for a check up for my other cat. read more

Would never take my animal here again. Staff was completely unprofessional at desk. When I expressed my shock at the end of the visit for the cost of close to 500 dollars the Blondel older receptionist just stared at me. They didn't even say anything when I left. I was not rude. Brought my dog in for shots, he had the runs. They Performed multiple tests on my him and he only had diarrhea. All they had to do was give him anti -diarrhea medicine. He ate wet food which I told them and just asked for something to settle his stomach...we went in for routine shots..was supposed to cost $150..wound up costing much more because I was told he could have parasites or been exposed to coccidiosis, a fatal disease...for puppies! That was not mentioned!!!!! He had dirty ears they offered to clean them for an additional 30 dollars. Um, no thanks bought ear wipes at petco for six. They are out to make a quick buck. Bottom line is lining their pockets. read more
