Larry, the owner was fantastic. Took my 1986 Volvo Penta inboard/ out drive in, diagnosed my issues…read moreand went above and beyond to repair them. Additionally, he found worn/ rusted parts internally and replaced them, even throwing in a few parts for free that he had around his shop. He even took the time to instruct and visually show me steps to maintain and winterize/ launch for fall and spring. On top of that, he gifted me an original instruction book for my boat and a tub of eco friendly heavy duty hand cleaner. He's been in business for 40+ years and has invaluable knowledge of these older boats. Other shops in town go to him for knowledge. Re: the 1 star review. 40+ years for specialized technical knowledge is not free. Yes, lawyers, doctors, professors all get paid for their knowledge and so do highly specialized technical mechanics. If you didn't want to spend money, you shouldn't have bought a "boat." Shame on you for expecting free knowledge and service AND 1 starring the business. It's not the businesses fault that you don't want to pay for its services.

He charged us $400 for less than 15 mins work and the 2 less than 5 minute conversations. You will get ripped off if you take your boat to him. It is very unfortunate that he is the only person locally that works on older boats. Our boat still isn't usable/fixed, yet we are now an additional $400 out. Not ok and not good business.

On a Friday afternoon trying to trailer a friend's boat to Whittier the brakes were needing help. I called and they said I could bring the boat over. Driving in the forklift took the boat into the shop and two hours later I was trailering the boat to Whittier. I find the employees to be professional. They have always treated me with respect and provided assistance.

I can not say enough BAD stuff about this place…read more I attempted to buy a boat from this poorly run business. We came to an agreement on a boat on consignment. Sent over the bill of sale. Everything was going smoothly. Until the vin number for the boat and trailer were wrong, had to get the marine appraisal fixed and then on top of that the title for the trailer was missing in action which delayed the sale. However I was willing to work with them on the matter. Well while I was waiting for them to get the paperwork together, which should have been done prior to the boat even being listed. They continued to take offers on the boat even though if they had the paperwork in order it would have been a sold boat, in the end I got outbid thanks to there incompetence in something they do all the time. I will never deal with them again, I will tell anyone that asked about them or thinks they should deal with them to never do that. I will recommend literally anyone other than boat works of Alaska. Not a pleasure to deal with at all.
