As someone who enjoys walking outdoors near bodies of water, I truly enjoyed this walk. There was a good amount of seating throughout the park. Secret Lake Park is lovely, and it is also peaceful. You can fish or just enjoy overlooking the lakes in a moment of solitude. Speaking of lakes, Secret Lake Park is made up of a series of lakes at varying sizes that you can walk near/around. Basically, a battle of the local rock and roll bands - a variety of different members from different bands come together on two teams for one day with a purpose to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Tickets are only $5, bring a foldup chair, 10x10 tent, a cooler and it's a great time watching all of our friends compete with one another on the field. Torcaso Cove Park is a great place to hold this event. There is a spacious field with plenty of space on the sidelines for fans. There are several parking areas available making parking easy for large events. There was plenty of space for a half-time show with live music right by the field. There were also a BBQ vendor and several other vendors on site selling food, jewelry, and other items. The park has a public restroom, a playground, splash park, sand pits, plenty of paved walking areas, a picnic area with tables, large pavilion, a beautiful bridge that crosses the heart shaped cove, the park has a bunch of Muscovy ducks waddling around and is dog friendly, what else can you ask for. Nancy and I really enjoyed our time at the park, we will definitely be back to bring our dog and take a nice walk. I just have to mention that it was a bit muddy on the field, even on a hot sunny day. So be sure to wear something you don't care about getting dirty.

There are 3 play areas: 2 for the big kids, and a pirate themed area for the little kids. There is also a splash pad, and I will openly admit to running through recently, as I chose to go on my run when it was over 95 degrees. The park is very clean, and well cared for, and it's right next to the Winter Springs Police Department, and on this day they had an event bringing awareness to autism; I was offered a popsicle and gladly grabbed it. I sat on a bench to watch a soccer match, while I finished my cold treat, stretched a bit, put on my weighted vest, waved to the ducks, and took off. Perfect park on a perfect day :)

Otherwise, it seems like a nice park with plenty of parking, some covered pavilions, tennis course and fields for sports. Unfortunately for them, the area was plagued by chiggers, small biting insects that would irritate the cattle and the cowboys tending them. The lake and the road leading to it became known as Red Bug Lake and Red Bug Lake Road because of the abundance of the biting red bugs. Thankfully there is no longer any sign of the biting red bugs. Today Red Bug Lake is the site of a popular park with a variety of recreational amenities. These include a restroom, playground, baseball field, sand volleyball court, outdoor exercise equipment, tennis courts, fishing pier, and boardwalk. Adult softball leagues and adult and youth tennis programs are offered in the park. This park is clean and well maintained. I especially enjoyed taking in nature and wildlife on the .9 mile paved walking trail that circles the lake. I was able to spot several birds. It is ideal for joggers, walkers, and anyone looking to participate in gentle exercise. The park also has a picnic area with tables and grill for family gatherings and cookouts. Around the water's edge are Cyprus trees with their interconnecting roots, also known as Cyprus knees, that stick up out of the ground. As you look out towards the water, you can see a newly reconstructed boardwalk popular with local fisherman. Just off the Spring to Spring Trail in Deltona which extends from Green Spring Park to De Leon…read moreSprings State Park, lies Thornby Park, a 38 acre natural area where the 1916 Thornby homestead once stood. Historically this area on Deltona's southern shore of Lake Monroe has been home to both native tribes and early Volusia County pioneers. During the Second Seminole War, the US Army built Fort Kingsbury named after a soldier who died of a fever in nearby Ft. Mellon. It was a defense stockade built here in response to the Seminoles burning Palaka in 1835 which was a major port on the St. John's River and a critical entrance point into Central Florida. The last residents on this land were Dr. James H. Glass and his wife Anna Wells Glass who built a two-story house. It was one of the finest residences in the area and it stood until teen-aged vandals burned on September 15, 2003. In the 1990's the land was at the center of a preservation battle between residents and developers. The community successfully advocated for the city to purchase the land, leading to the land being acquired by Volusia Forever and the city of Deltona. A public park was established in 2011 but unfortunately it was too late to preserve the Glass House like nearby DeBary Hall. While the Glass House is long gone, Thornby Park does have a large play area for all abilities and which is ADA compliant. It is called the Inspiration Playground and it was completed in 2012 with swings, monkey bars, and slides. In this area there are also restrooms, benches, picnic tables, and a gazebo donated by the Friends of Thornby in honor of Dr. Glass. Near the playground you will find the entrance to the boardwalk that takes you to the Thornby Trail, a half mile, loop nature trail. This area is a haven for wildlife and it contains several interpretive signs along with an outdoor classroom. Halfway through the trail is the remains of a piece of old narrow gauge railroad trestle that was used by mules to haul citrus to the docks of Lake Monroe. I had enjoyable stroll along Thornby Trail taking in the nature and history of this peaceful preserve. Thornby Park is a testament to the tenacity of the activists who fought long and hard to keep this pristine area from being turned into another development.

Now, this park does have a pretty cool kids playground, so if you have young children, this is a great place to head towards. On the path, you can definitely feel it's age. You know that this area has seen time since the dawn of time and the railroad trestle alone proves that this area was an integral part of early Florida life. I do not see myself returning here, but I am happy that I stumbled across this small park. Again, if you have small children, I would definitely recommend coming here to the children's play area. On that aspect, I would give here five stars. While the walking path is by no means impressive, I am glad that I saw the railroad trestle and that I took the time to see this part of unspoiled Florida.

The park has a small play area, basketball courts, some benches, and two ballfields. The area looks small at first glance but actually curves around to another street and ends with another baseball field. Certainly a whole lot larger than it first looks. You cannot expect people who bring their dogs here to have any reasonable training nor management of their dog(s). I have been about to enter when a man was chatting with another actually said he,"gave up on the whole idea of training when he couldn't get his dogs to come to him." His dogs were in the park at that moment. We currently have a rescue dog who was abused by other dogs and has an aggression level of Patrick Starfish. I only take him in if no other dogs are inside. A few days ago, he was running his Chariots of Fire, run when a lady came in with three cattle dogs. They immediately chased my dog who ran away to the farthest end of the park and tried to get out the back gate. I told the lady that my dog was scared of other dogs. She literally did nothing. I had to leave my dog's poop and go rescue him. Two of her dogs left bothering him, but one chased him back to the gate when he started to run to me. He was SO panicked we could not walk the sidewalk along the park back to the car (he weighs as much as me and wasn't having it). Yesterday, we found it empty again and he began his happy run and suddenly a big huge black dog was standing there about 15 yards away. His owner told him to leave it & he ignored us and went on about sniffing around the park. I was able to get the leash back on and get out the nearest gate without incident.
