With my final semester coming up for before I completed my Masters I was forced to take my last two classes at the Englewood Cliffs campus. Upon arriving to campus I was blown away by what it actually was. If you're a working adult who is continuing their education in the evening I'm sure you're looking for a school where everything is located on one floor. A place where if you need to see the advisor, dean, library, student lounge, and classroom are all within 5ft of each other. SPU is the place to go but only at the Englewood Cliffs campus. On one floor is all of these and much more. When I come to class a few minutes early I am able to heat up my dinner with the awesome microwave the student lounge provides, grab some snacks from the vending machine, or make a cup of coffee from the Keurig machine! Let's not forget about the most important part. The parking! This campus provides a parking lot that does not need a permit. The parking lot is not located across the campus but instead right outside the building where all of your classes are. I highly recommend attending the Englewood Cliffs campus if you are in any program. It is worth the drive and extremely convenient for the students.

The professors are supportive, and I've learned a lot in a short time. The campus has a calm vibe, which really helps during stressful weeks. There are still a few things that could be better some of the systems feel a bit slow and outdated but overall, it's a good place to grow, especially if you're focused and make the most of the resources here. For those unfamiliar with Mr. Paul, he was a master guitarist of many genres. In addition, Mr. Paul was one of the pioneers of the solid-body electric guitar, and his prototype, called the Log, served as inspiration for the Gibson Les Paul. Mr. Paul is the only inductee in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the National Inventors Hall of Fame. (Talk about accomplishments!) Three groups: "The Ed Loeb Quartet", "Tom and Sandy Doyle" and "D n A" performed in Mr. Paul's honor. (Tom Doyle had worked alongside Les Paul). The afternoon had two intermissions. Outside the auditorium, water, cheese, crackers, and other finger foods were supplied by a local ShopRite. During the second intermission, everyone had a slice of Les Paul's birthday cake. The event was extra special to me. I had the pleasure of seeing Les Paul perform at the old and new Iridium Room (NYC) on several occasions. "Note to event organizers": Navigating the college was very confusing. On top of it, the young woman at the security booth gave us "terrible directions". In addition, she didn't make any mention of a shuttle. Luckily, I did google a map of the college campus. Many of the program attendees were of an "older generation", which may not have been to tech savvy. In addition, the attendees may not have been able to walk up the college campus hills. We walked about 90% of the way and a car drove us to the event. After the show, we started walking back and a public safety car drove us back to the parking lot.

It's a long annoying walk to the cross bridge anytime you have to go to the other side. During my time at FDU, the infrastructure was lagging behind, but the university has taken lots of initiatives in past years to give the campus a face lift. Tuition fees are really high unless you get decent scholarship. The cost doesn't add up to the quality of education or benefits provided here. But if you can make it through with a degree in demanding field, there's plenty of opportunities to find good jobs as it's in tri-state area, only 20 mins from NYC.

I've seen other Fortis locations…read morelisted, but they have different addresses, so to be clear, this review is for the Fortis Institute located at 450 N Sam Houston Pkwy E, Ste 200, Houston, TX 77060. I attended this school for the Medical Assistant program to work toward becoming a CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant). At the beginning, my experience was okay and I didn't have many issues with my classes or instructors. However, as I got further into the program, my experience started to change. There were three staff members in particular that I had issues with. 1. Ms. Marin: I later found out that she would talk about me and my friends, and there were times when she would call us out in front of the entire class in a way that made us feel singled out or less than everyone else. I don't think students should be made to feel embarrassed in front of their classmates, especially by an instructor. 2. Ms. Nun: Whenever I had class with her, I felt like we barely learned anything. I specifically remember my friends and I asking if we could go through the skills list and practice different things to see what we still remembered and what we needed more help with. We were trying to make sure we were actually prepared, but our request was basically ignored and we barely practiced anything. 3. Ms. Moxcley: Toward the end of the program, we were told that we would receive assistance with finding employment. I remember reaching out to her multiple times about finding a job, but I would either receive no response or very little communication. Because I wasn't getting anywhere, I recently contacted Ms. Goss for help finding an MA position. I explained that I'm specifically interested in working as a Medical Assistant in an OB/GYN clinic. She told me she would call me. When she called, I happened to be busy and missed it, but I returned her call shortly afterward. She didn't answer, so I sent her a message letting her know I had called back and was available. This happened Tuesday. By Friday, I still had not received a response to any of the messages I sent afterward. I finally sent another message, and she responded saying she would call me "momentarily." I waited about two hours and still did not receive a call. That is what finally pushed me to leave this review. One of the things students are told is that Fortis will help them with employment after completing the program. In my experience, once you're finished with the school, getting that help has been extremely frustrating. Messages go unanswered, communication is inconsistent, and the employment assistance I was told I would receive has not been what I expected. I also don't understand the point of asking students what area they want to specialize in as an MA if the positions they are being directed toward aren't related to what they said they were interested in. I understand that nobody can guarantee you a specific job, but there is a difference between not being able to guarantee employment and simply not communicating with a former student who is actively asking for assistance. I completed my program and I'm genuinely trying to start my career and put my education to use. I'm not asking anyone to hand me a job. I'm asking for the career assistance and communication that we were told would be available to us. Unfortunately, my experience trying to receive that assistance has been extremely disappointing.
