It was a divine time at Devine! The wine selection is full of amazing choices! The inside is super cute! Very cozy as well. The staff were super attentive to us having a great experience. Always checked in every so often! Got to try their cheese mongers dish and all the cheeses were paired nicely with a snack that compliments the cheese! Super tasty. Our waitress was amazing and recommended some great options for wine :) Definitely will be back! read more

I was enjoying myself too much and stuffing my face with the cheese and accompaniments that I missed pictures of our second board of three cheeses, extra tasting of a blue, duck prosciutto, pasta with sausage and burrata cheese, asparagus with lemon and reggiano. The restaurant is holding it down in an area with very little foot traffic. They can do this because the offerings are delicious, the service is top notch and the owner friendly down to earth and generous with her time. We plan to be back! read more

Really fun place to be. Came here for an impromptu date night and enjoyed some beautiful outside ambience along with wine and plenty of bites. We ordered the flat bread and some other super yummy things. I like that they keep changing their menus so reason to come back again. The place is really cute and it's small but has a decent size backyard can fit upto 5-6 groups. They also have limited indoor seating. The service team was amazing too.. very attentive and great timely service read more

Came here last night with my cousin and we could not have picked a better place to start our night! The store is on the corner by St. James' Park. It was a beautiful sunny day. You can choose whether to sit inside or outside. The indoor seating area felt small and intimate. There's a wide selection of cheeses and wines so there's something for everyone. The descriptions on the menu is perfect to help you decide what you want, although we went with the cheesemonger's selection. We also got a wine flight first (one rosé, one white, and one red) so I think the selection was tailored to that. We were also able to sample our wine before getting a whole glass. The service was AMAZING. Shout out to our host!!! We didn't catch his name but he was super friendly and helpful. I'd definitely come back and try their other foods next time! It's the perfect place for a date night. read more

Devine Cheese and Wine - cheesemonger's selection - Wine Bars Near Me - San Jose, California

I visited Devine Cheese and Wine for one of my birthday celebrations and I loved it. It was my second time there and even better than the first. Both times I have ordered the cheesemonger's selection which is an expertly selected flight of three unique cheeses and pairings (this time we got blood orange marmalade with one, rosemary brittle with another, and the favorite of the night preserved pinecones (surprisingly delicious)). The server will ask if there's anything you definitely don't want in the selection, or you can choose your own cheeses. I will say it is truly a tasting so the portions are limited, but they have a significant food menu otherwise to pick from if you're looking for a full meal. I also ordered the soup of the day (asparagus with Parmesan) which filled me up with the cheese. The birthday treat was a huge win, because chocolate and wine is only second best to cheese and wine. I really like the intimate neighborhood cafe type atmosphere. There is street parking right outside the restaurant, however, it can fill up and you may have to park a block or two away if you're driving, so give yourself an extra time cushion, especially on busier nights. I would recommend a reservation on weekend nights, as it was nearly full inside on Friday night. read more

Delightful space with outstanding chef-owner designed and prepared food, as well as curated wine, cheese and charcuterie. Who could ask for more. In San Jose, this is the one restaurant that you might find in any other big or small city which unfortunately there is a shortage of here in downtown. My wife and i have been coming here very since we moved into the neighborhood in December 2020. We enjoy the quality of the food offerings that change with the seasons. The atmosphere both inside and outside allow for space for conversation. Kevin is an unbelievable attentive and knowledgeable server. Liana, the owner chef is a delightful and very skilled chef. Look at the cookbooks on the counter that are her inspiration and have influenced her (wow). We go often or even get takeout for home. read more

Cute in theory. Ambiance is awesome and the employees are super nice! However, the food was below average. We ordered the jalapeño Mac & cheese, a cheese platter, a steak, and the pesto pasta. The cheese and marmalade pairings are good, but if they're not made in house, then I don't believe they shouldn't be praised for something they didn't make. Moreover, we waited a WHILE for our food. We waited 20 minutes for our entrees, then our server told us the food would come out in 5 minutes. We waited 25 minutes longer for it to arrive. I shouldn't have to wait almost an hour for pastas and cheese. We even came during the dinner hour and there were only 2 other parties in the entire restaurant. I eat with my stomach, not my eyes. The presentation of the food couldn't save the lack of flavor. The steak was salty and the Mac & cheese was lazy. All they did was add a couple pieces of cold, long sliced pickled jalapeños to the TOP of the mac & cheese. I expected the jalapeños to be cooked into & melded into the cheeses, not just garnished. Normally I am one to send my food back on the spot but it was so bad we just agreed to pay and leave because we didn't want to run the risk of waiting another long while. At that point I was too hangry to deal with anything. Cute place, but I won't be returning unless I'm invited back for a free redemption meal. Some of these reviews are suspicious. read more

Had a really delicious dinner here this past weekend. This place has an amazing cheese selection and I loved how each different cheese was paired with different accoutrements depending on the cheese. I had the amazing Cana de Oveja as my starter, and luckily I was with a group who wanted to try other cheeses as well. I think the price of $7 for cheese was reasonable and for $21 you can try three cheeses they choose for you as an appetizer. I did the sparkling wine flight and really enjoyed it though it wasn't served in a champagne-style glass. I did like how with the flights, they bring all the wine servings in small cups and you can pour it in when you want to drink it. I also had the soup and the shaved brussels caesar and both were really good. The service was really great, very knowledgeable and friendly staff. As others noted, the parking is a bit challenging - you could probably park in one of the city lots a few blocks away or circle until you find street parking. Also their outdoor eating area looked very nice. read more

The northern reaches of Downtown San Jose become a dark and deserted wasteland after nightfall, where few but the bravest of tourists will dare to enter. But the natives know that a few excellent eateries still survive here, defiantly keeping the darkness at bay, and waiting it out until the day when the city finally gets around to reconnecting them again with the rest of downtown. The five stars are for the pasta and cheeses - because there are 2 or maybe 3 different layers of cheese activity going on here. Some mellow cheese thing going on top, and some salty cheese thing happening in the middle, and maybe some croissant cheese thing going down at the bottom. I don't know enough about cheese, so maybe it is something else. But this is not the cheese on my Doritos or Cheetos. This is not the cheese on the carne asada fries. And this is not the cheese inside my Subway sandwich, although it can be challenging to taste Subway sandwich cheese, even when you can see it. read more

Absolutely amazing place! So, not only is the cheese selection incredible but this place in its entirety is amazing all around! I was so pleasantly surprised that it's not a one trick pony - the rest of the dinner food we ordered was delicious. Second but no less important - the wine list! So many interesting wines. Our server Kevin was absolutely amazing and he was definitely the crown jewel that makes this place a top notch establishment with so much to offer. Already looking for excuses to go back! Oh and, another side note is that they sell goods by local artisans and what's not to love about that? My friend walked away with the most amazing charcuterie/cheese board made of acacia wood and blue resin. Thank you guys for the incredible night and the early birthday treat you offered, we had an incredible time with you! read more

A true hidden gem, everything you would love in a small mom and pop business. The service is amazing, the food is to die for, the vibe is so comfortable and classy at the same time, it's so homey. It's a great place to sit outside during the summer and to stay warm inside in the winter. I also love that their menu is seasonal, they also have the best wine recs if you're stuck or indecisive. Devine Cheese & Wine has been on my radar as long as the place has been opened, but then the pandemic happened. I added myself to their subscription list to get the latest news on their reopening. It has been amazing to witness how this establishment survived and thrived during the pandemic by doing online tasting events and catered/to-go charcuterie and cheese platters. I finally got the chance to try Devine Cheese & Wine when the opportunity came up for me to choose the location of a dinner date with my mom. I didn't catch our server's name, but the gentleman with glasses and curly hair during the 5:30pm shift on Saturday was the absolute best! He was so observant and attentive, and he ensured that our food came out in a timely manner. I appreciated his conscientiousness about my dietary restrictions (I don't eat pork), and all his recommendations off the menu were a hit. We shared the Cheesemonger, Duck Proscuitto, Miss Mary Mac & Cheese, and Beef Bourguignon. They were all excellent. The Cheesemonger consisted of 3 types of cheese with pairings. Unfortunately I don't recall the names of the cheeses, but I wanted some type of soft cheese, blue cheese, and a surprise/chef's choice as the 3rd. The cheeses did not disappoint, and they cheeses came with pairings (i.e. pepper gastrique, berry jam, soaked figs) that complimented them well. The duck proscuitto was nice and smoky and tasted great with the mustards. Loved the richness of flavor from the beef bourguignon and mac & cheese. Although the portions seemed small, I was stuffed! My mom and I had such a fantastic experience. I look forward to bringing my whole family next time in the very near future! read more

One day I was so stressed. I realized I haven't been taking care of myself other than doing aerobics in the morning. I walked to Devine Cheese and Wine to give myself a treat before I met up with friends for Octoberfest next door at the German restaurant. The outdoor patio was gorgeous under trees and lights. The staff turned on the outside heater by my table, so I was content where I was. The view of Downtown SJ on Second Street is not as bad as the one near the Angelou's Restaurant. At least there wasn't a homeless guy hanging out by my table. I started out with a Rose and a charcuterie plate. I was surprised this place only had one Rose on their menu, but I planned to have one drink since I was going to drinks later with peeps. I was curious about their cheeses so I ordered one plate. My man joined me later so I ordered another cheese plate. I'm sorry I don't remember the names of the cheeses, I just asked the server what he recommended. They were all great! For New Year's Eve, I wanted to make a cheese and charcuterie platter but I did not want to go to the grocery stores. So I ordered online and got four cheeses. They were a bit pricey so I bought the charcuterie from World Market. It worked out really well, my order was ready to pick up at 6 pm. They included crackers and figs too! Awesome!!! I'm glad this place is within walking distance from my place. I love their selection of cheeses and I hope they survive this pandemic. Thank you, Devine Cheese & Wine. read more

The best cheese selection in the South Bay! Don't wait for a special occasion to stop by Devine. This place manages to be the perfect spot for a cold winter night and a great summer patio hang too. There's a good selection of cheeses, meaning you can miss and always a good meat to pair. They have small salads and plates if you want to take that route. There are also heartier options like short rib and Mac and cheese, plus a nice rotation of special menu items and a 4 course tasting option that's super affordable. Desserts are good to especially the chocolate pot de creme. Wine selection is good too, nice reds at an affordable price point and a good selection of whites too. Everyone who works here are the friendliest and it has that perfect vibe where you feel like family! read more

This place is still great! Did their virtual wine and cheese again and had a lot of fun! The setup is so fun to do and the conversation is great. You learn a lot about the cheeses and wine. Went for dinner one day and the outdoor seating is wonderful. You have to get the short rib!! It is soooo delicious. The scallops were also delicious and the almond cake were superb. We also shared the brie fermier, challerhocker (which I had tried at a different wine/cheese class), and the manchego. All good choices and they give you pairings such as jam, red pepper jelly, and candied cashews. Divine! The pot de creme is the chocolate dessert and it's a must. The Quinta do Infantado Tawny is the port you must try to finish your meal. You won't regret it! The ricotta and peaches is also very nice and light. It has mint and it pairs perfectly. Overall, we had a nice time. :) read more

As the theme song goes, sometimes you want to go where everyone knows your name, and Devine Wine and Cheese truly embodies that comforting at-home feeling. It's like your favorite neighborhood gem that you may have traveled miles to visit. This charming establishment exudes warmth and authenticity. It's evident that the passionate team behind the scenes is genuinely devoted to making your experience exceptional. The open kitchen concept amplifies this. These are not chefs making food for "tables". These are dedicated artisans pouring love into dishes for people they can actually see. We gorged on the cheese and meats to begin. Such an abundant selection of cheeses, it's nice to indulge. We also hit up the pinsa flatbread as a starter which was delicious. Next, we shared a few mains. As is typical, we went for the Miss Mary Mac and Cheese, the short rib, and the mushroom pasta. Too many carbs, you say? Sure it is. And, even though it means another 10+ miles, it was soooo worth it. read more

What a lovely place this is. My husband and I went in on a whim, beckoned out of the rain by their warm cafe lighting. The welcome we received once inside was as warm as the lighting. So cozy, with attentive service. They really want you to enjoy your experience. The cheesemongers board is really fun, with thoughtful accompaniments to each cheese bringing out flavors in unexpected ways. The wine flights are fun too, no need to pick a single wine to try. Our very helpful server told us that this is a woman owned business, being the inspiration of the hard working lady chef preparing food behind the counter. The Brussels sprout Cesar lingers in my imagination, and the vanilla panna cotta knocked my expectations out of the water, packed with real vanilla bean flavor. I separately came here on a weeknight with girlfriends to try out their prix fixe menu- only available Tues through Thurs- and we had so much delicious fun. We really need to make this a ritual. This place is right in the heart of downtown, but hidden behind the historic construction site that never moves forward, in a storefront that hasn't been able to maintain a tenant. Fingers and toes crossed that this is the one. Definitely go out of your way to check it out if you can. read more

We got wind of this spot through a nextdoor post about cheesecake. Just left the restaurant and wow! Delicious! I heard about this place for the special Dine Downtown San Jose program and this meal definitely did not disappoint. We had 4 tastingcourses for $45 each. Friends had Central Perk, How I Met Your Mother had MacLaren's Pub, well my friends and I have Devine Cheese and Wine. I've been a patron of Devine Cheese and Wine since the first week Liana opened the doors in early 2020 a few weeks before the world shutdown. Even though it's been more than a year, the food was delicious and between her, Spencer, & another waiter we were very well taken care of. I remember my friends and I ordering almost the entire menu to "try this place out.." At the time we ordered the mushroom sugo with brocolini, mac and cheese, and braised short rib were some of the spectacular highlights of the opening menu. The mac and cheese is still on the menu today! Devine has kept me sane throughout the 2020 pandemic. They have an outdoor patio where they've been able to keep operations running ever since outdoor dining was allowed. My social bubble had made an effort to go to brunch almost every Sunday. What else were we going to do when all other activities were closed? Devine took covid seriously and were always following the appropriate guidance. Between the food that Liana & Spencer are able to crank out and the service Kevin provides, its been like an escape from lock-down into what we've been familiar with of the "before times". In just over a year, we've been able to celebrate birthdays, starting new jobs, convincing my friends to move to south bay (down the block) and moving in with another friend to form our social bubble, weddings, ordering charcuterie boards for the holidays and superbowl, etc. etc. The staff at Devine have hustled their way through the past year cranking out excellent food with spectacular service. Thank you Liana, Spencer, Kevin, and all the other staff who make this place so great! When they have it on the menu, I highly recommend the ham and cheese croissant (brunch only) & chocolate bread pudding. You will not regret it! read more
