We came for take-out during the Friend of the Devil pop-up. I've had their original chicken sandwich at Roister previously, which I enjoyed. We ordered the regular chicken sandwich, the spicy chicken sandwich, fries and the bbq corn. The chicken sandwiches were good and I'm sure they would have been crunchier if we were able to eat them immediately. Unfortunately, the fries were soggy by the time we got home. I should have known this place was gonna be bad. It has the Devil on it. I thought it would be good, because brick and mortars are expensive. I expected better quality than a stand on the street. The stand on the street I'm used to is Best Wurst in Austin, so maybe that sets the bar pretty high. The skin on the dog was too thick. The cheese was fake. I just didn't like it, and felt it didn't represent Chicago dogs. It actually killed my appetite for any kind of hot dog for awhile, so I never got a real Chicago hot dog. Ain't no such thing as coincidences in life. I knew it was coming, planned on going somewhere suitably satanic, here we are. Deal with my Yelp OCD. I brought Nichole C here for some greasy deliciousness last night and the overall experience was better than I could've ever hoped. The bright neon sign outside on Milwaukee Ave guided us straight into the devil's den. Although initially overwhelmed by the menu (SO many choices), eventually we settled on a trio of hot dogs, a single slider, a bag of fries, bucket of onion rings, a drink and a shake. The guy at the register comped us the fountain drink, which wasn't necessary but super appreciated. Their stuff is made to order, so it took a little while until our gargantuan dinner was ready. Once I began to dig in, I knew I'd gone died and gone straight to heaven......or the other place??? I hope they have food like this in that fiery pit down below, because it was unbelievably good. I started off with the cheddar dawg ($5.25) which came with shredded cheddar and melted cheddar cheese, topped with hot green chilies. It had a kick to it along the lines of pepperoncini. Next up was the 'Jose Caliente' dawg ($5.25), a 1/4lb spicy grilled hot dog with devil sauce, spicy pico de gallo, and cucumber slices. Most excellent. Fries are the natural fresh-cut variety, which is my preferred style. O-rings were tasty and had a nice thin coating, unlike some places that throw 1" of breading on and forget the actual onion! Nichole's chicago-style dog was up to par, as was the sloppy joe burger. Their shake selection numbers in the dozens; I could get a new shake - or malt - every week of the year and it'd take me 6 months to cycle through them all. My butterscotch milkshake ($5.75) was huge, expensive, and muy delicioso. Next time I'll try their mint chocolate. As an added bonus, they've got some catchy signs posted around the restaurant including one by the water dispenser that's quite funny. Dudes behind the counter were pretty cool, especially the one who said "the drink's on me". Others have mentioned the 10% gratuity that's automatically added to the check, and that's a bit shady, I'll admit. Since my meal here was so enjoyable, I've no problem leaving a tip now or in the future. Sinful, yes indeed. But I doubt your soul will be condemed to hell for eating here......or will it? read more

Good food, with some creative takes on the usual Chicago style dog. Totally on the level. I had a Blue Demons Dawg, a classic Chicago dog and a cheddar cheese dogs, and all three were very good. They have their own sauce that's difficult to describe. I think they're going for it to taste spicy but not overpowering. I liked it. Cool vibe, with big tables and good music. The guy at the counter taking orders was kind of an impatient jerk, but I was clearly a nube and didn't know what to order, so it took me a few seconds to get my stuff together, and he didn't seem to want to be very patient. Fairly inexpensive as well, for what you're getting. My three dogs and the drink were right at $20. So with the quality of the food and the wide variety of stuff on the menu to try, this place is definitely worth stopping into. read more

Most recently heard about Devil Dawgs and their veggie dog option, but in the past I've tended to avoid veggie dogs because I've a soy allergy and often that's their main protein source..... so I reached out to customer service after reading another review here, I am stoked to know that theirs is confirmed as soy-free!!!! My orders were delivered by Uber Eats, as there was a deal, so this review is solely of the food and not the service or ambience. The location we ordered from was 1.6 miles away. The Chicago Dogs arrived alright and were wrapped properly and tasted just fine. Unfortunately, the fries arrived as a soggy mess but were revived by broiling them. I blame this on the fact that I ordered delivery fries so the second time we ordered tots and onion rings but they also arrived soggy even though the top of the bag was left open. The sliders were an unmitigated disaster and 100% inedible as a sandwich. Unlike Joey Chestnut, I do not prefer buns soaked in water and crumbling like wet single ply. We immediately asked for a refund. The only part of the slider that we even attempted to eat was the beef. Considering that we ordered the condiments on the side, we still find it inexplicable that the sliders arrived in this manner. Oh Lord. What did I eat? I came here late on a Saturday night and every surface at Devil Dawgs was soaked in various condiments and beverages. The floors, the tables, the countertops on either side of the drink dispenser: All were sticky. I got a bacon cheddar dog: The thinnest hot dog you've ever seen, slathered in some sort of fake Cheez Whiz nonsense and unmelted, shredded cheese. In every bite, the best flavor came from the bun. What a disaster. I also had the "bucket of rings." These were the saddest, oiliest onion rings ever. The breading fell off as soon as you picked them up and they didn't taste like anything except grease. I ate maybe five or six floppy, dripping onion remnants before abandoning the rest. The total cost of this unsatisfying nightmare was $11.42. Imagine all the quality food you could get for $11.42. Also neat that when you pay for a credit card, they try to stick you with an automatic 10% tip. Be alert and only tip that if you feel so inclined. Of course we also ordered a side of Merkts cheddar cheese sauce. Order at the counter and wait for them to call you when your food is ready. The hotdog was kind of spicy, but in a good way, with a hot dog taste (not sure how they got that) and came on a regular bun. It truly tasted like meat and came with a kosher pickle in it. My hungry teenage son gave the sliders two thumbs up. Though it looked small, he said the double patty made all the difference in the world and it was quite filling. Super busy neighborhood but there is parking on the street. I got a vegan Chicago dog and it was amazing! My boyfriend got a bacon cheddar dog, he thought the bacon was undercooked, but other than that really liked it! The fries were good too. This place is definitely unique in terms of hotdogs and hamburgers...all all the included usual items (fries, shakes, etc) The normal hotdogs have a variety of toppings making them all worth trying. The devil dawgs are made with a larger sausage and include a much more in terms of toppings quantity. I had the Apple Bacon cheddar dog which is as good as it sounds. I also had the bull dawg which was interesting since the hotdog was batter fried and on a lobster roll. Perhaps not my favorite due to the amount of coleslaw on it. But damn it was different. They also have huge buckets of fries and onion rings. The fries can have bacon, cheese and grilled onions on them. Very tasty. But my major favorite of this place has to be the onion rings. They tasted just like bloomin' onions from Outback. I could eat these by the ton! The milkshakes are good. Pretty standard. Overall a very different take on a hotdog place. Come for the chicken sandwich. Seriously, it's so good. The chicken has a good crunch to it (not too oily and just the right size for a sandwich) and the coleslaw is surprisingly delicious (normally I'm not a fan). We have been hearing about Devil Dawgs non-stop from one of our good friends in DC, so we had to stop as we were cruising down Milwaukee back to our apartment. This is a great place to stop if you are biking on Milwaukee! Check out their menu posted outside, enter with masks on, order, and expect greatness after a short wait. We ordered the chicken sandwich, fries, and the Juicy (big popper)! Their soda machine is currently closed so expect to purchase bottled soda/water or bring your own!
