He explained that over time, crowns take a lot of pressure & the cement can detach after a while. Thankfully, he just adjusted my crown & re-cemented it in, & I was on my way. Dr. Pinto has multiple patients with EDS, and puts in the time and effort to adjust her care for the ways the disorder impacts tooth and gum health. Finding my nerves for filling replacement has always been a trial for dentists. As is common in EDS, I go through anesthesetic quickly and variably depending on anaesthetic type and dose. I've worked closely with Dr. Pinto to figure out how to get me numbed up effectively. I also want to give a shout-out to her straightforwardness in working with patients with severe anxiety and depression. It's really common to have to expend precious energy reassuring medical professionals who are uncomfortable with the idea of depression/anxiety. (This is a significant boundary to medical care for folks dealing with these issues.) Not so with Dr. Pinto. Upon learning about the depth of my partner's profound depression/anxiety, all she had to say was "you're on meds? You're working with professionals? Good. So about your teeth..." And that was it. No pity, no fear, no need to manage her emotions and expectations.
