I was bummed to find out that someone keyed the whole passenger side of my 2012 dodge charger srt. Mark came highly recommended by someone who worked at progressive insurance, they thought it might buff out. I called Mark and he had me pick up some touch up paint at the dodge dealership just incase we needed some. Another thing that happened to the charger was that someone was spraying a wood fence and got over spray all over it and it wasn't coming out. Double trouble right there. Keyed and over sprayed? I was bummed. Mark gave me a cute little loaner car to get home and said it would take about 2 days to complete. To my surprise it was done the next day, he even delivered the car to me and picked up his loaner! Another great surprise was that he detailed the inside of my car and it looked brand new! Now about the outside, he brought my black charger back to sexy again! It actually looks better now then when I bought it! Smooth, sexy, shiny and you can't even tell it had been keyed! I first went to Details by Mark when he were located in SE Portland, my trunk was taking in water and they were the only place that could find the problem. So when my brand new Forester's moon roof was left open during a heavy downpour, I knew where to take it. Mark is quick to respond, is transparent, works smart, and is great with insurance companies. I'll apologize right up front for a very late and well deserved review. My car was serviced in mid-August 2014 FYI. Mark and the team at Details By Mark did more than just an amazing job detailing my little mini cooper, they performed a miracle! My boyfriend surprised me by arranging the detailing of my car for my birthday, complete with renting me a car and telling me nothing about where he was taking my little red cooper. Days later he delivered my car mid-day to my office, and it was shocking how much improved my little car's appearance was. The car was completely detailed, down to having had the black-plastic parts that had oxidized painted over in flat black to match the original look, and replacing a plate on the drivers-side door jamb that had come loose and been damaged. Even the seat belts had been removed and machine washed. Most amazing was the carpets, which the prior owner had saturated with some kind of mild-based coffee drink eon's before. The odor only emerged after I tried to clean the carpets, and ultimately became persistent. Mark's team cleaned the carpet again, and again, and again, we learned, until the thing was finally clean. Amazingly nice to step in to a car on a warm day that didn't reek of slightly aged milk. I can't recommend Mark and his team enough. I don't have enough good things to say about this process and about Mark's communications and dealings throughout the experience. I'm used to bad and at best mediocre experiences when it comes to cars and car vendors and dealers. The process usually takes far too long, the communication is poor, and I almost always get the car back feeling as though I've somehow been robbed and overcharged. I feel the exact opposite with my experience with Mark and his shop, Details by Mark. Basically, I own a 2010 VW Jetta Wagon. I had parked it in the garage during a short business trip. Upon my return, I found the entire interior of the car covered in mold. And I mean covered - every little square inch was completely disgusting. I was incredibly upset because I could not see a way out of this situation - everything just seemed damaged beyond repair. I called a couple of the mold remediation links I found on yelp and the wait time was a week before anyone could even look at it. I wondered how much worse the damage would get in that time and of course, how much all of this was going to cost?! My fiance was actually the one to find Mark, who knew immediately what the problem was due to (common with VW's with the panoramic sunroof) and felt confident he could return the car as good as new. Not only that but he suggested contacting insurance (something I wouldn't even have thought of doing). Mark instilled confidence from the get go, he had relationships with the people at our insurance provider as well as at the VW dealer. Sure enough, the ball started rolling with insurance and Mark himself came to see the car and do a walk thru with us. The level of personal attention was phenomenal - to say Mark is a professional is a gross understatement. We handed him a little piece of paper with the insurance claim number and he whisked the car away. Throughout the whole process, Mark was very communicative - informing us as parts arrived, when insurance was approved, what the issue was. He was right in the end - there was a problem with the panoramic sunroof. He took it to another vendor in town who fixed the issue with the roof and again, was communicative about pricing that fell out of the insurance realm. Mark and his team then went to work on my car, replacing items that could not be cleaned and deep cleaning everything else. Mark is super resourceful and knowledgeable about where to get parts, especially as VW's are tricky and sometimes you can't easily get a replacement part from the dealer. He then delivered the car back to my house when he said he was going to. I was absolutely floored by how perfect everything appeared. The car looks and smells brand new. I really feel like this thing that at first seemed like a curse has turned out to be such a blessing. And I am so grateful to Mark. He really does go above and beyond. I didn't think there were businesses like his in the world anymore - he runs his shop with such integrity, professionalism and kindness. It was a joy to do business with him. read more

Please do your research before hiring these folks. Old Yelp reviews were good (pre-2011) about this company but if you check on Angie's List the reports should trouble you. He can do good work but be very cautious as his personality - and truthfulness - changes drastically when the customer complains. My Subaru had been owned by a smoker for several years,and the smell was really bad. The head liner was tan rather than the original light gray. Mark described what it would take to remove the odor, and said that he would stick with the process until the odor was gone. That process included removal of the interior of the car, including seats, console, carpets...and headliner for cleaning, and so that the interior hidden sub-surfaces could be cleaned. The process took several days, and was not inexpensive. Basically you get what you pay for, and I got my Subaru back smelling like a smokeless car, with no masking perfume odors. Mark delivered what he promised, kept me informed throughout the process, and provided a free loaner car for the duration of the process. My experience, if you have interior odor problems in your car and want the problems solved in the correct way, talk to Mark. read more

I've taken several vehicles to Details by Mark over the years, and I've been quite happy with the results. He's done a particularly great job on repairing seats and interior components. The leather seats that he just restored for me came out fantastically - I honestly can't tell that they were scratched and ripped, and they look brand new on a car that is 17 years old. Seatbelts, rugs, and other details are done very very well. He made the black paint on my car look absolutely stunning, and cleaned up the minor nicks/scratches with skill based on what is obviously extensive experience. If you've purchased a used car, take it to Mark and spend a few hundred dollars and bring it back to the best it can be - it's a worthwhile investment in your peace of mind. Similarly, just before you sell a car have him do a detail on it -it will add significant dollars to the sale and speed the process of finding a buyer. Caveats: 1) Don't be in a rush. If this is your only car, or you have a deadline, you'll probably be unhappy. This is not to say it's slow service, but adding a day or two onto a timeline for additional parts, or waiting for something to cure/dry is part of the process. Be patient. 2) Don't be cheap. Mark is not inexpensive, and will do things that need to be done if he sees them, and that adds up fast. There is a difference between someone who vacuums the car and puts some Turtle Wax on it versus an actual detail. Buying wheel caps, finding missing badges and installing them, fixing lights - it's a full-service restoration if you want it to be. 3) Don't be unclear. If you want something done, write it down specifically. If you don't want something done, write it down. If you want an estimate before work is done, write it down. Otherwise, Mark will do what he think is best, which may be expensive or it may not be what you expected. It will be good work, but it may not be the work you thought you were getting. (I've never had a bad experience in this department, but I've tried to be clear.) read more
