This bookstore is located less than a block away from Riverside's famous Mission Inn…read more The store features two separate sections, each with its own entrance: one located on Main Street and the other accessible via a walkway along the side of the store. The Main Street entrance takes you into a store that has some books but mostly gift items and knick-knacks. I popped in and out of here quickly because I mainly wanted to check out used books. Those can be found by going to the side entrance down the walkway. The used book store is very well organized by categories, and books in each category are shelved alphabetically, making everything easy to find if you are after something specific. Some categories are far better stocked than others. The category I was most interested in was a bit sparse so I didn't end up purchasing anything this day. On the pathway to the used books entrance is a kiosk where you can leave a poem. Cool idea. If you like a good bookstore this will be a place you'll enjoy spending a little time browsing.

I only had a limited amount of time so I had to rush through but I was still able to find 3 books for myself... all used but in GREAT condition. $15 for all 3! The store is located in the upstairs shopping "mall," along with a bunch of either tiny stores. I would estimate at least a quarter to a third of the books are of the sci-fi/fantasy genre. Here is where you may find some very obscure but excellent out of print titles. The fiction section is also well-curated. The rest of the books are a bit of a hodgepodge (travel, humor, etc.). I found the prices to be very fair. Be careful, though: some out of print books are priced accordingly. Worth checking out, if you are a book nerd.

Sometimes you really need to visit a brick-n-mortar store for inspiration. At QTrading Company,…read morethey have 4 main sections: Gifts, cards, books, and adult "toys." The owners are always finding new and different inventory for gifts and decorative items. On my last visit I found the perfect gifts of a glittery, fabulous garden gnome and a wooden puzzle treasure box. I also enjoyed seeing the socks with humorous sayings. Since the Coachella Valley allows us to wear shorts most months of the year, these socks are sure to be a hit. QTrading Company had a wide-selection of other items suitable for gift-giving or a treat for yourself. The card selection is huge. There are beautifully hand-made cards, cards for every occasion, naughty cards for those friends we all have, and seasonal cards for different holidays. The section of adult toys section seems to have something for everyone. Finally, QTrading Company had a well-curated section of LGBTQ+ books. Famous authors such as Nava and Maupin are represented, but also newer authors.

I wanted to purchase a book that was on my TBR list, so we decided to visit the bookstore. I walked in, and the same woman greeted us with what felt like a forced hello. I asked if they had a certain book. I wasn't sure whether it was classified as a thriller or a mystery, so I said thriller. They did have the book, but when she handed it to me, she said, "It's actually horror," in a condescending and mean tone. Two stars for cleanliness and friendly staff…read more Three stars off for the most important aspect of a used bookstore... price. $5 per paperback? More for hardbacks? For a book whose spine is parting? Missing pages? C'mon. Don't even bother looking at most of what they call "Vintage" books. They ask a king's ransom for them. I found paperback after paperback that was priced at over $20 each... for a book barely 50 years old and a cover price of $1.50. Outlandish. I actually performed a reality check and went to Ebay to check on 7 or 8 of those titles. In each case the books sold for much less on Ebay than Helen is asking. They most definitely need to adjust their pricing schema. It's not like they're paying rent in downtown La Jolla for goodness sake. I was originally, upon walking in, going to say their large, diverse selection is a strength. Now I understand it's simply a function of them not selling their books at a good turnover rate at all... consequently, their stock piles up. Shame.
