It is family owned and a true independent book store. The owner is wonderful and the staff is just great. They have good prices and I bet they have what you want. It is clean and well organized and if you need help, they will help you. They pretty much know everything they have. If they don't have a book you want they will order it for you.

It's a very strange thing, however, that half of the back part of the store is all toys. But, are there any toy stores anymore? So I guess it makes sense to combine it. Every time I've come, the employees are extremely helpful and answer lots of my questions. When things are not in, they are quick to offer that they can order it. Unfortunately, I am so usually last minute that I don't have time to do online ordering. But, I appreciate that they know and let me know that that's an option. They've got quite a selection of fun, trinkets, and beautiful gifts near the front and in the back. The sale aisles are always a fun thing to look at and usually I find one or two things I didn't know I was looking for. The one thing missing this last trip was I was looking for a magazine about soccer. And they have a huge magazine selection of Tons and tons of sports and hobbies and all kinds of other things. But I could not find one soccer magazine. There was one on wooden boats and baseball and football. But no soccer. Do they not make soccer magazines? This was obviously for a gift for someone else. Anyhow, this is super rambling and yet, you're still reading. So if you're feeling nostalgic and want to grab a real book with paper and the smell of fresh creases, head over here. It's also well lit since natural light is coming in through the huge doors and windows from the entrance accessibility on the street. All the different book sections are highlighted and well represented from Anime, Manga, Sci Fi, Young Readers, Novels, Magazines to name a few. Their children's sections is also very welcoming. They have the stage and little chairs for the little ones. This Barnes & Noble location carries everything from books, art, toys, DVDs, magazines and some collectible items. You can definitely find most of the books you're looking for at this location. This is a great place for avid readers like us. We found some cool and interesting books at this location that's hard to find.

It was way more than what I had expected! At first glance it seems like it's the tiniest thing, but once you start wandering through you'll notice that there are so many sections with tons and tons of all sorts of books, new and used! I only had a limited amount of time so I had to rush through but I was still able to find 3 books for myself... all used but in GREAT condition. $15 for all 3! The owner of the shop was also amazing... super warm and welcoming! This will definitely not be my last time visiting the store because I plan to return on my next trip back to Joshua tree :)

The store is located in the upstairs shopping "mall," along with a bunch of either tiny stores. I would estimate at least a quarter to a third of the books are of the sci-fi/fantasy genre. Here is where you may find some very obscure but excellent out of print titles. The fiction section is also well-curated. The rest of the books are a bit of a hodgepodge (travel, humor, etc.). I found the prices to be very fair. Be careful, though: some out of print books are priced accordingly. Worth checking out, if you are a book nerd.

I'm so glad we found this place, there's a good selection of books and really good prices. There isn't an attendant around, but the cashier was very friendly and I even got a bookmark with my purchase! I like that books were organized and they had a section for young readers and kids. I even found a couple of hard back Nancy Drew books I read as a kid! There were a few classic Golden Books too. The middle section has some great table books. There's a mixture of classic and new and it was fun to search.

I called to make sure they still had a puzzle section and they sure do! They have such a lovely variety too! I'm sure you'll find something you like. Two stars for cleanliness and friendly staff…read more Three stars off for the most important aspect of a used bookstore... price. $5 per paperback? More for hardbacks? For a book whose spine is parting? Missing pages? C'mon. Don't even bother looking at most of what they call "Vintage" books. They ask a king's ransom for them. I found paperback after paperback that was priced at over $20 each... for a book barely 50 years old and a cover price of $1.50. Outlandish. I actually performed a reality check and went to Ebay to check on 7 or 8 of those titles. In each case the books sold for much less on Ebay than Helen is asking. They most definitely need to adjust their pricing schema. It's not like they're paying rent in downtown La Jolla for goodness sake. I was originally, upon walking in, going to say their large, diverse selection is a strength. Now I understand it's simply a function of them not selling their books at a good turnover rate at all... consequently, their stock piles up. Shame.
