New Fantastic Walking Tour! Loved this tour! It was the perfect mix of fun stories, real New Orleans history, and delicious food tastings along the way. The guide, Susan, was engaging, knowledgeable, and made every stop, whether a landmark or a bite, interesting. I learned so much and had a great time exploring (and eating!) my way through the city. My highlight was the muffuletta sandwich from Central Grocery Company at 923 Decatur which was shocking due to my aversion to olives. Who knew I would adore an olive sandwich! Was in town for a conference and didn't have much time so opted for this foodie tour. I did not regret it! We had so much fun, and got to try a variety of things I wouldn't have had time to otherwise. Katie, our tour guide was super knowledgeable and very friendly. We had stops for beignets, muffuletta, gator, gumbo, shrimp po'boys and pralines. At every stop where were options for water and restrooms, and places to sit. Be sure to wear your walking shoes, it takes the full 3 hours! All in all, this tour was one of our highlights of our trip. Would definitely recommend!! read more

My sister booked this tour as part of a fun birthday weekend for me in New Orleans, and unfortunately it ended up being one of the most uncomfortable experiences of the trip. From the very beginning, our guide, Jack, made me feel singled out. Before the tour even started, I tried twice to introduce myself and ask a question while standing with the rest of the group, and both times I was ignored. After being ignored twice before the tour even started, I decided not to mention that I was there celebrating my birthday because, at that point, I already felt uncomfortable and unwelcome. As the tour went on, there were multiple interactions that, taken individually, maybe could have been brushed off - but together created a pattern that was hard to ignore. When cookies were handed out to the group, everyone received theirs directly except me - mine was handed to my sister. Later, at one of the food stops, while presenting a large sandwich to the group, Jack brought it to me and commented that I should "remember I can't eat it all" and would need to share - despite the fact that I hadn't even finished several of the previous tastings. Later, while I was eating, he leaned in to ask how I liked the sandwich, and I literally watched spit land on the rest of my food. At that point, I couldn't finish it. At the final stop, the same pattern continued - items were again handed to my sister instead of directly to me, followed by another comment directed at me about how "a little goes a long way." After the rest of the group had left, I privately and respectfully told Jack that some of his comments and behavior toward me had felt hurtful and insensitive. He said he had no idea what I was talking about. But as I was walking away, his final comment was: "I don't even think you're that fat." That statement alone confirmed for me that I wasn't imagining what had happened. The food itself was good, but I never got the chance to actually enjoy the experience because I spent most of the tour feeling uncomfortable, singled out, and embarrassed. I'm leaving this review not to attack anyone, but because no guest should walk away from what's supposed to be a fun food experience feeling that way. read more

My husband and I enjoyed this tour immensely. It was actually two separate experiences and well worth the $$ and 5.5 hours of time investment during our visit to the French Quarter. Our guide for the walking food tour--Susan--was excellent! We had 11 people in our group and she paced the time between food items and walking so very well. Each of our 6 items were authentic NOLA cuisine. Susan also explained the background for the foods we ate including Cajan, Creole, Gumbo... it was very educational. Glad this tour was early in our visit to the city as she gave us restaurant suggestions for elsewhere, outside of the French Quarter. The second portion of the tour was held at the New Orleans School of Cooking. In a 2-hour timeframe, Chef Eric prepared traditional Gumbo, Jambalaya, and Pralines. WOW! Even though we had tried gumbo during the walking tour, this gumbo was a slightly different version and it was outstanding!!! Even with that said, the jambalaya was even better. We went on a French Quarter small-group cocktail and foodie tour with Nate on a Wednesday night, and as always, doing a food tour in a new city was the perfect way to explore--walking the streets, learning the history, and of course, eating great food. My husband and I have done quite a few food tours, and this one definitely had the most food. And drinks? They were solid too! What really stood out was that the stops weren't the tourist traps. They introduced us to lesser-known restaurants and bars, one of which we even went back to later because it was just that good. Food tours can be hit or miss depending on the group dynamic, and there were definitely some people who weren't thrilled that it wasn't a private tour for just them. But let's just say--after a few full-sized cocktails, the mood shifted real fast. Our guide, Nate, was friendly and informative and did a great job of corralling us all. Just got back from NOLA for Memorial Day weekend and have to say this is one food tour I'm so glad I opted for. As a solo traveler I always try and anchor every trip with one, so I can sample more than I would if I were to venture out alone. After tremendous research and realizing there were SO many options to choose from but this one somehow stood out to me. I booked via Viator for the "New Orleans Food Walking Tour of the French Quarter" - $75 (18 people max); $85 for small group option (13 people max). I opted for the upgrade for a more intimate experience but I suppose larger groups/families could be fine with the standard option. Susan was our guide and truly such a delight. A true pro, but warm, friendly, engaging and personable. I can tell she ebbs and flows with the group no matter what demographic. How she does back-to-back tours with the same level of energy is truly admirable. Loved the balance of New Orleans history with taking us to some great spots - several of which were on my personal hit list, so glad we covered that ground. The tour itself covered 6 stops with a range of savory and sweet. We had 2 takeaway sweets that bookended the tour and 3 seated stops, 1 of which was in the French Market. I have admit, I found myself going back to TWO of these spots post-tour...so suffice to say this tour made an impact on me. When I grow up, I hope I'm lucky enough to be half as cool as our tour guide, Jack! He was so much fun and so passionate about Nola and its food scene! One of my favorite ways to check out new cities is by doing a food tour and this one absolutely did not disappoint! We started at Market Cafe in the French Market where we were served po boys and alligator bites, as well as a drink (I chose Bloody Mary and everyone made fun of me for it lol). I was pumped we got alligator because that was on my list of food to eat while we were there. Both were delicious! Next, we headed over to Cane and Table which was a little more upscale and we were served these amazing plantains as well as some very yummy pork cracklins, and an old fashioned. Those plantains were one of my favorites on the whole tour! Next stop was New Orleans Creole Cookery which we were also excited about because it was one of many restaurants on our huge list we came with. At this stop, we had gumbo and smoked oysters, as well as I believe a Sazarac? Things started getting fuzzy at this point lol. Nola was hitting heat records this weekend so while the gumbo was good, it was just SO HOT to be eating gumbo. The oyster was very very good! Off we went to the Napoleon House and we seriously had consumed so much food at this point, there's no way I could keep going. We had giant portions of muffaletta and I did take one bite just to try it but Jack was so kind and let us box them up to bring them with us. I had a Pimms Cup here and it was so refreshing! Jack talked to the workers and they allowed him to bring us upstairs and check out their absolutely stunning banquet halls with gorgeous chandeliers and we got to hang out on the balcony overlooking the street below! Our final stop was this cute little shop that I don't remember the name, but Jack told us about pralines and then we each got a pack of delicious praline cookies! This tour was simply awesome and it was a chance to try a bunch of different food and drinks all in one swoop. Jack was so fun and hilarious, we had an absolute blast with him and the rest of our tour group. We loved Jack's personalized name tag pin so much, my friend asked where he got it and we ended up going to the French Market the next day where she bought a bunch of pins from the same vendor! We spent the morning w/ Jack, and he was entertaining, although some of the information seemed sketch at best. We met at the Roux Royale. We started with praline cookies which were yummy and moved to Bon's for Calis which were excellent. From there we were off to the French Market for a horribly undercooked boudin (couldn't even bite through the casing). Jack was great, and got us more, but they were just as bad... and we did not eat them. Next we were off to the French Market Cafe for Shrimp Po' Boys. It was everything bad about a Po' Boy... too much bread, bread not toasted, wilted lettuce, and the saddest thinnest tomato you have ever seen in your life.... we did not eat them. We did stop at the Creole Cookery for the best chargrilled oysters I have ever had, and outstanding cup of chicken and andouille sausage gumbo. We ended up at New Orlean's Cooking School for some of the best pralines I have had! Jack did leave us with a 5 star recommendation of muffaletta at the Napoleon House, which we did go to for lunch! Jack was great! However, on this Friday morning the sourcing of some of the food could have been better. We know these tours use many restaurants, and we appreciate bringing business to the less popular places... but a couple of these guys need to up their game, or Jack will have to take his tours elsewhere! read more
