Well over two decades ago, I purchased book shelves from Design Quest. The shelves are from Denmark with special pegs. I contacted the store and within days they sent me a few replacement pegs. Furnished my first house in 1978 largely with furniture from Design Quest in EastTown. Since then I have bought from them to furnish various homes and always found them to support the furniture they sell. Mr Sorensen was always in the store and was very helpful and a real gentleman. Two years ago I bought a Stressless power recliner that had been marked down that I was happy with until the base started to delaminate. I called Design Quest about the issue and they had me take photos and email them. I didn't hear back for weeks and finally checked back in to see why I didn't get a response. Tom Host said that at over $2000 that I paid was a discounted price and sold without warrantee. Funny nobody told me that when they were charging my credit card. With this logic if you buy a new car from a dealer and got a good price on it, it would not be covered by a warrantee? Personally I wouldn't have paid over $2000 for chair that wasn't covered for manufacturer defects. I was told it would cost well over $600 to repair and get this, I needed to prepay before they would order the parts. This is not how Design Quest earned my business, I miss Mr Sorensen! read more

High-end modern furniture and home store that is a feast for the eyes...and a drain on your bank account. As you saunter through the impeccably-arranged showroom, pause to admire a lounger, only to look at the price tag as your eyes go "AhhWOOOOGAH!" right out of your head. Thousands of dollars, folks. Be prepared to pay through the nose for the design and cache of well-known names like Eames, Herman Miller, Noguchi, and Hastens. If you have the patience and time, venture further to check out their clearance section in the wayyyyyy back where there are some interesting pieces and deals to be had. There is also a vintage MG TC back there behind some mattresses, but I don't think it's for sale. We found a groovy bright yellow silk rug for my dining room. Antonio the sales rep was friendly, honest, and hands-off, in a good way. He 'read' us accurately (the mark of a true sales professional) and made our shopping experience easy and enjoyable. read more

Gorgeous store. Convenient parking. Egregious pricing for the products, several of which are of questionable quality. I have experienced two levels of service here over the last 17 years: fair and good. Never anything terrible, but also never anything outstanding. My first purchase at this store was a Stressless Recliner with ottoman. I spent a small fortune on it and although it was comfortable for the first several months, the seat eventually wore down and became decidedly uncomfortable. Also, a few of the mounting screws in the ottoman became stripped and one fell out, never to return to its home. This was all with normal usage from a non-overweight patron. The store made it clear to me that the warranty was what it was and I accepted that, although I made the mental note to never buy one of these items again. The second purchase I made was of a phenomenal dining table that had a clever mechanism to tilt the top and reveal an attached leaf which slid out easily to expand the table when desired. I never regretted that purchase, but it was made while I was single. Time, practicality and kids have since convinced me to get more... durable and cost-effective pieces. I would just encourage folks to fully research any particular product and look at reviews before you buy any beautiful but horrifyingly expensive item. Also, note that kids can be like little smart bombs and tend to have the capacity to destroy anything not made out of chromium steel, so keep that in mind before you buy that stunning but fragile desk/table/couch or whatever. They do have more than just horrifyingly expensive Swedish or Italian furniture, though. They do have artwork, rugs and several other reasonably-priced home furnishings. read more

I absolutely love this store. However, I cannot justify giving them 5 stars. My mom and I stopped in the day after Christmas, mostly just to window shop. However, I was also hoping they might have some cool Christmas items that'd be on sale. They had woefully few holiday things, but those were not marked down one penny!! Mom and I had tons of fun checking out all the cool kitchen and decorative and other small items. Mom wandered over to look at furniture, and after a while I joined her. However, it took forever and a day for a sales person there to even say hello. As we were looking at some sale items in the back, he let us know that there are more clearance items in the warehouse way in the back. Quite a few of those prices were incredibly reasonable. There were a number of items I would seriously have considered buying if I lived in the area. I did purchase a lamp about which I'm very excited. It was at the front of the store, and was full price, but at $89 I thought it to be reasonably priced considering the base is maple. I'd been looking for a table lamp for two months now, and had not found anything I'd liked or could afford (I'm just not willing to pay $200+ for a simple table lamp!). If I had an unlimited budget for home furnishings, I would definitely spend lots of $ here! read more

Hands down the best furniture store in Grand Rapids. Immaculate displays, designer brands, and a pretty affordable clearance room that holds surprises for broke girls like me?! Yes. It's real. I am a lover of modern furniture- and it doesn't get better than this. Herman Miller, Knoll, Loloi, Alessi, and MoMa are some of the brands you will encounter here. You will probably come in here wanting just about everything, and realizing that the prices are not exactly "budget-friendly." Just know, you get what you pay for, and if you want the best for your money this is the place to be! read more

I've never actually purchased any furniture here. However, I'm an avid window shopper. They have an amazing selection of today's most modern Scandinavian designs. Many of them are probably over priced. At the very least, you can get some ideas of what sort of furniture you are settling with when you eventually buy some dull couch from Art Van. read more

If you like modern, this is your store. We have several pieces from D2 and have been very happy with them. When we need something to supplement our living space, this is typically where we start the search. And even if you don't buy anything, you will get ideas. They aren't inexpensive, but they also have a lot of cool gift ideas and lower cost items. Good store to browse on a wandering weekend. read more

The salesperson was rather socially awkward and became annoyed when I wanted to spend more than 15 minutes trying chairs before I dropped $1,000. I explained that an injury makes it difficult fire to be comfortable and I wanted to be sure I was happy before purchasing. He would not give me a direct answer when asked what the stores' return policy was. Same answer when I asked about a restocking fee. Instead this was met with a rude remark. What kind of store won't state their return policies? Seems like a shady business to me. As a business owner myself, I do not trust the way that they do business or handle customers. Glenn Warners of Design Quest was one of the rudest people I have ever met. Unfortunately this carries over to my feeling for the store itself. I reached out to DQ with the exact product, make/model/color I wanted. It was not available locally to me, however my local retailer pointed me to several places that did carry it, with DQ being one of them. Given that Glenn had invested less than 15 minutes of time with me, and that he didn't stock the product (IE no inventory carrying costs), I told him I would purchase if he could take 10% off. I even indicated I would be willing to wait if the manufacturer in question runs periodic seasonal sales. Glenn not only rudely dismissed me, but then accused me of lying on multiple fronts. I called the next store my local dealer had suggested and we had a deal completed in less time than it took Glenn to finish his temper tantrum. Given that experience, I suggest you don't waste your time with someone as deceitful as Glenn and DQ and take your hard earned money elsewhere. Glenn and DQ don't deserve one penny of it. We paid nearly $1800 for an Italian (Natuzzi) sofa from Design Quest in the fall of 2010... After less than 2 years the cushions were collapsing, they (Design Quest) sent out a technician to attempt a repair, now 2 1/2 years later it's worse than the first time and Design Quest tells us we're out of luck..."read your warranty" are their exact words, although it has a ten year frame warranty, the warranty is only for the wooden portion of the frame. I would've expected better customer service from a store that tries so hard to put forth a sophisticated image. We thought their inflated prices were because of great customer service...sadly we were wrong. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone read more

I just visited World Market for the first time and had no idea that this was such a cool store. I went in because I heard about their great wine selection and was surprised at how much more they have to offer. Really eclectic and neat finds from all over the world. Being that it was my first visit, I was wandering around just browsing and was approached by an employee (I think her name was Jordan?) asking if I needed any help. She was super friendly and positive and ended up helping me pick out a really cool Rattan chair that I absolutely love. Would definitely recommend checking this place out! read more

Tom Host of Design Quest provided efficient, thoughtful assistance in my search for a particular hard-to-find chair model. Working with me entirely by phone and email, he thought ahead several steps, anticipating the type and format of information (including photos) that I would need in order to make an informed decision. Having worked with a lot of design professionals recently, many of them in person in NYC but others in different locations around the country, I know all too well how rare and meaningful this kind of service can be. And although I can't visit Grand Rapids anytime soon, I certainly appreciate the fact (beautifully visible on D2's website) that this store actually hosts shows of artists' work. I've visited the store several times and never found enough sales personnel. On my third visit, I visited the store with a friend who was searching for a rug, I did find a dining room table on clearance and then ordered chairs to match. That was nearly 3 months ago and I've yet to receive my order. I called the store several times to check on my order which was initially to be delivered within 6 weeks. I've never been contacted directly about my order unless I've made the call to inquire. Still waiting and won't visit the store again. Customer service not a high priority which is a shame for this high quality, high price store. read more
