talk to the girl this is nonsense
we didnt do that (timestamp)
that doesn't look very guatemalan
I have never in my life been treated the way I was treated at Design Jewellers.
I needed a resize and had two main concerns, would the resizing be seamless, and would the stone be removed before resizing.
I was assured that the resize would be seamless, and that the amethyst could be protected during resizing and didn't need to be removed.
I wish I had taken pictures of the first ring they tried to give me because it was truly the most insane thing I have ever experienced. My purple amethyst was replaced with a much larger bright pink stone, the bezel was completely different, going all the way to the edges of the band, a completely different design than my original ring.
The jeweller tells me that my amethyst was a fake stone and that the heat had turned it clear.
The bench jeweller tells me that because my stone was "fake" he "did his best" to match the colour. At this point I can't stop crying, and the owner comes over. He is immediately rude, asking me why I am crying. I try to explain what happened but he cuts me off to talk to the jeweller.
He turns back to me and tells me that because my stone was a cubic zirconia it turned clear from the heat of resizing and that they "fixed" it. I tell him that this looks nothing like my ring and show him pictures. He is very flippant and tells me that it can be fixed and to stop crying.
Eventually they tell me they will replace the stone. They present this as if they are doing me a favour by getting a real amethyst when I had brought in a fake stone. I am assured the stone will be cut the same.
When I picked it up I was unable to inspect it very closely, however while I waited for an Uber I took the pictures labelled "first fix". The silver was significantly darker, and had spotting on the front of the ring, the spot where it had been resized also had a different texture.
I look extra close and notice pitting on the side of the bezel. I also notice that the stone is not cut the same, it has a much larger front face than the original design. I look at pictures of the ring before and notice that the solid gold bezel is also significantly thinner than the original ring.
I go back after a couple days with printed images of the differences.
I speak to the owner again, he puts the ring under the microscope to show me the pitting, he tells me that it is my fault because silver is a soft metal and they would never give a ring back like that.
I show him the timestamped photos from when I picked it up. He laughs at me and asks why I didn't come right back. As I am trying to explain he calls over a different associate and asks her "can you talk to this girl because I think all this is ridiculous"
I try to explain my problems with the silver and the bezel, she rolls her eyes at me and starts mumbling that never in all their years of business have they had this much trouble over a silver ring. She reminds me that they ordered me a real amethyst when mine was fake. I ask if they have some sort of testing to show my stone was fake, she rolls her eyes at me. At this point I pull out my printed images and try to explain how the stone and bezel are different. She doesn't note what I want fixed, just takes the ring, takes the pictures and puts them in the drop off envelope.
I leave feeling insanely disrespected and dismissed, as if I am inconveniencing them by wanting a problem they caused fixed.
The next day I pick up the ring and I know that even if there are more problems I cannot ask them to fix it again, it is not worth my emotional wellbeing to be insulted and belittled by them again. The final ring does not match my original, and has lowered the value of the vintage ring that I only wanted resized.
There is still staining on the silver, the stone and bezel do not match, and there are clear marks where the resize was done.
I am writing to warn young women to take their jewelry elsewhere. If anything goes wrong with your service here you will be belittled, called ridiculous, and dismissed, your jewelry might even be permanently damaged like mine was. read more
