There's parking surrounding the building as it shares lot space with the municipal offices of the city. The parking situation is interesting and seems small at first, but I think it's surprisingly a manageable amount of room for the traffic through Royal Oak Farmers Market. It might require a loop or two around either side of the farmers market building through. What's most attractive about this farmers market is that it's completely indoors, with a handful of vendors just outside the entrances, so this runs basically year round, which I love! It's one giant space inside, completely dog-friendly and there are bathrooms available for use as well! The vendors are lined up table next to table lining the perimeter of the building and a smaller circle in the center, allowing the walkways to be in between these two "circles" and allowing for the ability to loop around the entire building without much thought. There is a wonderful variety in vendors at the farmers market, plenty of produce-based vendors, organic produce in particular, plant sales, snacks, and more art/craft-based vendors too! They are basically a small version of Eastern Market if you can't make it out to Eastern Market! I was in a bit of a hurry this first time, so I was only able to do one quick loop around, but I am definitely excited to come back here soon to look in more depth at all that they have to offer because there is a TON! My first visit was to pick up some coffee from Bean Brothers, a michigan-based brand that I had found out was being carried in person by Pillar and Pride. I could just drop in and grab some when I was running low. Checking out their website ahead of time, I was excited to see the goods that they carried and showcased. Wellness is a theme of their product offerings, with a variety of supplements and items to help atune yourself to a feeling of balance. But there's also a lot of good food. :) Tyree offered me a sample of some barbecue sauce from Williams Food Company, another local brand. It was delicious, and a bottle of it went home with me. (If you go by it's the five spice sauce, which is really different from any sort of barbecue sauce off the shelf. It has a little kick, and it's a little sweet. Go in and try some.) It's also worth mentioning that in the back corner there are a variety of books the touch on topics that speak to thriving in your life, children's books where kids of color can see themselves represented in the pages, and titles looking at improving your health. Lots of local authors are represented here too. It's an awesome variety. P+P also has a great presence on social media, and hosts events in their space, to try and further promote the ideas are at the core of their mission. Actually I first became aware of them because they were hosting discussions on Instagram Live about COVID and Detroit's concerns and discussions around a vaccine that would hopefully protect them. It was honest and frank conversation that gave me a lot of perspective that I wouldn't have had otherwise. At the heart of Pillar and Pride is the family that runs it. You can tell they care about Detroit so much. You can tell that they care about the people they serve. When I turned my head to look back, it was even longer than when I got in! Once I got to the front, it was easy from there, but what slowed the line down is that two ladies had full carts trying to go through self serve which is 12 items or less. They took forever, and one machine was down, so I'll avoid coming here in the future but this was the only place nearby that had the cookies I was looking for.
