Great little mini India in Pineville. They sell groceries, dishes, fresh veggies, frozen food, clothing and they have a really busy cafe. Also a couple of street food carts. One selling pani puri, Indian street food at its finest! Nice and spicy ! Also a chai cart , for tea and biscuits . Tea is kinda milky though! Loved the decor around the walls, kinda cool and funny. This post is for someone who does not eat Indian food or know anything about Indian food cuisine. Samasoa- potatoes and peas -crispy fried takes similar to an empanadas or egg roll / deep fried Mutton- goat I'm not 100% sure about how to select the food but try to come prepared to order because the cashiers do not offer suggestions. However it is a legit traditional restaurant because everyone is Indian. You stand in line to order from the counter and they call your name to pick it up. The line moves fast for ordering and pickup. We will come back and try a few more things and hopefully not forget to ask for mild! ;) read more

Loved the ambiance, different for an Indian restaurant. Very casual vibe. Service was good - we got our food quite fast. Food itself was good. Naan was soft and garlicky. Baby corn Manchurian was less of Manchurian more of a dry preparation - but we liked it. Both malai kofta and chicken curry were good. I do want to visit to try more food. read more

Packed place! Clearly they're doing things right at Desi District with how crowded it was the whole time I was there. It's an Indian grocery market with another section containing a large selection of food made to order. The food was fantastic and the groceries were great too. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because it is so incredibly loud and stressful in there. You feel rushed while you're eating and just a lot is happening while you're trying to enjoy your meal or have conversation. Instead of shouting over a microphone of what food items are ready, they should give everyone a receipt with a number on it and call a number or have a digital board saying that number is ready for pickup. read more

A grocery store and restaurant all in one stop. Saturday mornings a buffet breakfast is offered and on other days I believe it's à la carte...I did not know what to expect but overall, I had a pretty good experience. There was a huge turn out so seating was first come first serve and that made things a bit tricky. Feel free to join a table as I did and spark up a conversation. That probably was my favorite part of this experience. Food is constantly being replaced as the items don't stay very long once they're brought out. The rush is real and all part of the experience I suppose. Tasty food and all vegan options. A small Chai is given at the end of your meal. Ask for the Masala Chai as the Irani Chai is a bit on the sweeter side but both are delicious. There's enough seating but with the Saturday rush, be prepared to not have any seats available immediately. In addition that also compromises parking in the area. Overall, it was a good experience and I would definitely return probably on a weekday to try their à la carte menu. Good luck to those who go!! read more

I've been coming to this restaurant from they started, and it used to be great last year this time around. The dine-in experience is still good -- the food tastes better and the staff is friendly. However, the to-go orders have really gone downhill lately. The last few times I ordered Egg Biryani takeouts, the food was either not prepared fresh (especially Biryani rice) or just not prepared with the same quality as dine-in. I mentioned the issue a couple two times, but the improvement hasn't shown. It's frustrating because I know the kitchen can do better -- I see it when I eat there. I really hope they put more care into their to-go orders again, because this used to be a reliable spot. For now, dine-in is fine, but I can't recommend the takeout anymore. read more

Busy, busy, busy! This place is extremely popular, so trying it for the first time at noon on a Sunday probably wasn't the best idea, but we did. There was so much to choose from. My husband and I decided to try the gobi manchurian to start and share szechuan noodles. Both were extremely flavorful and nicely spiced. It is counter service but the line was quick and there was plenty of seating. The walls were decorated with menu items and made my mouth water at the prospect of many other Indian delicacies to try. After lunch we did a bit of browsing and picked up snacks to bring home and a simple curry mix to try for our next foray into "homemade" Indian food. We can't wait to try more read more

I took a nice walk through the store, and found it full of good produce, an excellent selection of dry goods and meats, and all sorts of lovely things for both spiritual and secular needs. Unhygienic and stinks! Everyone is wearing gloves and touch everything and never change them. The lady at the tea spot went over to the register to ring someone , handled $ , came back and with the same gloves touched the osmania biscuits to put in a tray and give to customer. Also, same time touching the plastic cup rim to pour tea. When you go to pick up the food in the back the guys are handling different meats, sauces and the microphone to call orders with the SAME gloves. Wanted to try a new place and this seemed like it would be a cool new spot. Several items unavailable to start but I love chicken tikka and that was available. Three of us ordered on a Sunday afternoon. The dining area was fairly full but no line and we easily found a table. Ordering was simple and we were given a pager to come back up when our food was ready. We sat and realized quickly that pagers were going off all over. It seemed like every few minutes a pager went off and someone would get up, scrape their chair across the concrete floor and go to the counter. Those constant sounds mixed with the music got annoying really fast. Our pager went off 4 different times as different parts of our order was ready. That seemed really unnecessary to be up and down. Just page us once everything is done! On a good note, the naan was perfect. You can't mess up a can of soda and both the white rice and veggie fried rice was tasty. The chicken tikka seemed like microwaved leftovers and while my husband said his order was good, the serving size was on the small side. I went into Desi district April 5th at 2:35pm as a recommendation from a friend. As a person who enjoys Indian cuisine and culture this place seemed like a natural destination. I walked in and it was nice first impression. I made my way up to the counter with hopes of ordering lunch for my family of 5. I got in line, which was fairly short and waited my turn. When it was time to order I stepped up from approximately 6 feet away to about a foot from the register, as I did this I Was looking up at the menu in order to say what I wanted. As I stepped up the cashier backed up and walked off. I peered forward waiting for someone to return, and as she did I looked up at the menu once more, a general indication that I am ready to order. Not once was I acknowledged so I looked around and waiting. About a minute later an Indian gentleman walked up in front of me, she immediately acknowledged him, asked for his order and he paid.
