We bought our puppy about 4 years ago and he's a beautiful and healthy boy. A big boy with over 100lbs of pure muscles! We just placed a reservation for our second puppy with them. Labradors are an "one of a kind" dog - so smart that he will always think he's the boss ... not you. We understand why they don't allow visitors without schedule and why so restrictive... if not that will became an "kids play day place" . We really recommend read more

We had been looking for a english yellow male lab, and on a referral from a from a Sheriff's deputy buddy decided to contact DW labradores 9/26/2019 we picked a very nice looking male they use as a sire, after two failed heart breaking attempts and 7 months we felt we could no longer wait for another chance of their male to produce a litter. So we asked to have our $250.00 deposit refunded, after 3 contacts We never received a response from Laura, I'm here to tell you they have NO ethics whatsoever and don't seem to know if their if the females are even pregnant until its time for them to deliver. I really feel like they stole my money, shame on them! read more

We purchased a puppy from them before he was born. Prior to receiving our puppy, the communications from birth till when he was sent to us was minimal. He was flown to us at eight weeks old. When we got him he seemed to be a fun loving puppy. Shortly after we received him he would go from being a happy puppy to a puppy that was confused and just walk the perimeter of his kennel/back yard with no warning. It would just happen out of nowhere. One minute he will be fine the next minute it was like he did not know where he was. As time went on it got worse and worse. We sent videos to them explaining our concerns and we ended up taking him to the vet. At that point the vet explained that he had some type of neurological disorder and the prognosis was not good. We spoke with desert wind labradors and explained our situation and had to have him put down. They ended up calling me back stating that they would replace him with a new puppy if that's what we would like. After my wife and I thought about it for a couple of days we did not feel like we were ready to have another puppy at that time because we were mourning the loss of our beloved Teddy. I sent an email stating that we would prefer some type of refund and the response I received was the offer for a replacement puppy was no longer on the table because the neurological disorder was not their fault. So basically we spent over $2000 with purchasing him and vet bills and they would not do anything for us. read more

If I can save one person, one extra minute of their life, then this review will be well-worth it. I am a previous lab owner and after losing my last one, I started my search for another Chocolate. I vetted a few breeders in Washington state and this one was attractive to me because not only of their good-looking pups produced, but the intgral values they hinted at on their website. I wanted to visit ANY prospect breeder FIRST, before I committed to a deposit/pup. Boy, am I glad I did now. The first few times I emailed Laura she responded, but not timely. However, she replied. She proposed a visit VERY last minute (like the week of) that did not work for my schedule. I tried to find a different day that would work and.......crickets. Nothing. I was WAY ahead of the ballgame.....like 6 months.....never got any reply. It's like they fell off the face of the earth. Because she was the only one i had told my story to, invested in, i continued to try to get ahold of them, thinking that maybe the holidays or something tied them up. Nope. I pushed my timeline back to see if they'd email me and almost a year later i have heard NOTHING. POOR. I grew up in a Christian home and these guys are the epitome of why people would be turned off from it. Laura was very short and rude in her last email and made visits seem sparse and inconvenient. I thought I'd be the only one pissed, but low and behold i'm Not. I have seen similar reviews for similar problems. Yikes. STAY FAR, FAR AWAY FROM THESE GUYS!!!!!!!! read more

They did refund our deposit so we were grateful for that. My daughter did save up some of that so she got her money back to put toward another lab. read more

Me and my co-worker have purchased chocolate labs from here and they are great dogs in excellent health after a couple of years now. Owners were nice and invited me in where the female dogs were kept and they were very nice dogs. Yes they live in the country and live in a trailer but do a very quality job breeding beautiful labs. Will def use them again the next time i get a lab. read more

We purchased a yellow lab Alex three years ago from desert wind. Alex is a beautiful, well mannered lab. We love him. However, the breeders should be ashamed of themselves. They take ZERO accountability for the genetic issues with their dogs. We found out at two years old, that Alex had a detatched retina and double cataracts. The detachment occured in utero from what our surgeon said. We could not save his vision in his right eye but he had cataract surgery on his left eye and can see well. However, we just found out that he now has glaucoma and will need to have his right eye removed. When I spoke to the breeder last year, they took no responsibility. We were not asking for our money back but simply were asking for them to genetically test their dogs and be responsible. They did nothing and said nothing kind to us. DO NOT USE THIS BREEDER. read more

The dog we purchased from Desert Wind Labradors, is the finest Lab we have ever had.... Our vet said he is in super healthy., and he is also the smartest Lab we ever had.... He is also extremely beautiful, at exactly one year he was 98 lbs and 35 in. high at the head.. The property is much bigger than it looks from the front.... They will take you on a tour, if you ask....These breeders have a wonderful reputation, and we will always buy our puppies from them. read more

We purchased a Black Lab female from Desert Wind Labradors. Let me just briefly warn you NOT to purchase from these people. DONT let the website fool you, this is a puppy mill. Our lab was alone when we arrived, shaking and whining.. Turns out the lab had a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) that took several rounds of medication to remove. In addition, after a year the vet informed us that our lab had horrible hips and dysplasia. Our vet also noted that she has had numerous labs with similar problems from Desert Wind Labradors. Our lab has had horrible anxiety/panic problems ever since we have picked her up. Love her to death, but I strongly suggest finding another breeder if you are going to pay this much for a puppy. STAY AWAY FROM DESERT WIND!!!! read more

This dog breeder doesn't do what they claim to do. Their website indicates they have acres and acres of fields and ponds to provide unlimited access for hunting, training, and just plain fun. The reality is they have a trailer on a small piece of property, with six dogs tied up. The puppies were cute and clean, but that is the only positive comment I can make. At our request they brought out the mother of the litter. We thought she was going to bite one of us. The owner quickly returned her to the trailer. Not a good place to buy a puppy! read more

Run, don't walk, from these breeders. I can't speak to the shady business practices described here, but I could write a book about the tragic health problems of our beloved male yellow lab, who we just put down at 9 years after literally a lifetime of ailments. These started at 6 months with severe elbow dysplasia, requiring scope surgery in both legs. The surgeon -- top person in Seattle area -- predicted our pup would have lifetime issues with arthritis as he aged. He was correct. The surgeon expressed zero doubt the dysplasia was a breeding issue. Another experienced orthopedic surgeon, who tried unsuccessfully to give our dog a replacement hip (both hips were severely arthritic) later in his relatively short life, backed up this opinion, also finding arthritis in his spine. Is it possible we got the random short straw here, and the breeding practices at this place are sound? Not likely. Read the other reviews. And judge the response: We contacted the breeders after the first surgery, before the poor dog was even a year old, expecting they would contact other owners and at least stop breeding the same dogs. That didn't happen. Instead, they abjectly denied any breeding issues. They basically blamed us for somehow causing this genetic dysfunction ourselves. Our lab was whip smart and the sweetest dog ever, and we had to watch him suffer with health issues most of his life (he had major skin allergies and other chronic ailments as well.) We had pet insurance, thank god, so were able to provide top vet care. We ultimately filed nearly 200 claims over the life of our "happy, healthy" Desert Wind lab -- well over $20,000 in expenses. Ultimately our dog, suffering from a serious infection from multiple hip surgeries, developed what would've been a fatal nasal tumor. We finally decided to stop his suffering; the right decision, but immensely painful. Seriously, save yourself the heartache, which for us is ongoing. Our dog's spirit was willing to the end but his body failed him. Trust me and the others here. Do not buy a dog from these people, who are aware of many genetic issues, but look the other way for profit. Eye problems, joint problems, all the classic signs of bad breeding run amok. This place should not just be avoided, it should be shut down. read more

Warning!!! Desert Wind Labs... BAD! - I never right reviews unless It's important! I recently put a deposit on a labrador puppy from Desert Wind Labs. They happily took my money. I waited 2 months for the pups to be born. they were nice at first and told me she would keep me updated and let me know when the puppy's were born. I asked them to send me photos and more information about the sire and dame, bloodlines, pedigree, ect. Which i never did receive. The pups were scheduled to be born on Nov. 15th and I had not herd anything from her for 2 months, no photos no nothing, which originally they said they would get right over. So i called her on Nov. 12-15th several times and emailed her with no response. I finally got through to her on the 15th. when i asked her about the pups... and to my surprise the pups had been born on the 10th. With no update or contact i was shocked. I asked about the pups and she had little to no information about them, size, health, playfulness and was very unspecific. she only offered me that there were 5 pups born and i could not choose one but would be given a male. i was first pick of the litter but because there was only 5 born I would get a black male, period. Being ok with this I asked her for photos of the pups and individual photos and/or video of my pup. She did ask me when i would be sending the rest of the money. and wanted me to pay 450 to have the puppy shipped as cargo. waiting a month with no response I called her again repeatedly for two weeks. I got ahold of her and she said she would send a photo right over. At this time I told her that I would be flying out to pick up the pup instead of having it shipped out. three days later with no response I tried to get ahold of her again via phone and email with no response and no photos. in fact the only time I did hear from her is when she wanted money. The next day I got a email from her stating that they were refunding my money because of my impatiens? At this point I had spent 1000 dollars on flights to and from Washington from colorado, hotel, rental car, crate and 150 to bring the puppy home on the plane. She never did explain why, but i did get my deposit back. I am still out the transfer money for the flight, car and hotel about 500. I believe that the pups either didn't exist at all or they all had bad health problems. Or this business is a scam all together. I also learned that there sires and dames bloodlines are not registered with the AKC they have no record of where the dog come form, no pedigree, no hunting titles, no nothing. But I do know that there dog are IN BREAD, the sire and dams of the pups have the same father. Cousins breeding causes birth defects. the AKC and CKC do NOT recognize this as expectable breeding practices. (blessing in desquise, not getting this pup) I recently lost my boy! (Guinness) black lab, and put this deposit down hastily on a Desert Wind Lab puppy. Now having some time to breath and search for proper and great bloodline, I have found: http://www.wyngmasterlabradors.com http://www.kandrlabradors.com/p/litters.html http://uklabs.com read more

buyer beware ! we asked for our deposit back after being disappointed 2 times ....been on waiting list for two litters. breeder has not responded to our emails, letter or phone messages. we were told we were 1st in line after 1st litter and now second litter we had to find out by their website that again no puppy available even though female chocolates were born in both of these litters. started this process 1st of april with these breeders. if they were a reputable breeder and had integrity they would have called and communicated to us personally. we will be reporting them to the akc as well. read more

My husband and I have had a wonderful experience working with Laura and Jeff to get our puppy. We had lots of questions and had great communication with them - they don't always get back immediately, but they do get back to you and it is best if you try to call them instead of emailing. When we went to their open house this weekend to pick out our puppy, they were wonderful and let us interact with all of the puppies that were available. We got to meet the parents and hear more about their practices. It is obvious that they love their dogs and want to ensure that their puppies go to good homes. I saw several reviews mentioning the $250 non-refundable deposit and that they "didn't get their money back" - this is a clearly stated policy and common practice. Also, you can switch your deposit to a new litter, but if you are wanting to be at the top of the list, then it may be a few months, which is fine with me; they are not just cranking out puppies left and right 24/7. Also, they have a strict payment policy and deadlines for which you have to completed payment or you forfeit your deposit. This again, is totally fine with me, because as a responsible dog owner who is committing to another puppy, I should be able to follow these rules. We have had a wonderful experience getting to meet our puppy and can't wait to pick her up after she goes through one of their training programs in a few weeks. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! After months and months of waiting for a litter to "take", they completely ghosted us and wouldn't return phone calls or emails, even though their website claims they are accessible. This was right before we were supposed to pick up our new puppy! In my professional career, I have never experienced something like this. My first red flag was them requesting CASH ONLY for the remainder of our payment, I am sure they are reporting their business accounting accurately to the government. After calling around to local vets and other breeders in the area, I have heard some very concerning practices about this company from being a puppy mill, stealing money, buying and re-selling other dogs as their own, terrible living conditions for their dogs and the list goes on an on. STAY AWAY from people like this who do not respect the breed nor the time, effort and money people put into bringing a new dog into their lives. If I could give them 0 stars I would as my family and kids now have to wait longer for the new puppy we were so excited for. read more
