What an amazing experience. We had the opportunity to spend two nights on site in one of their airstream trailers. It was cozy, clean, well equipped, and supplied for a rustic adventure. The Hot Springs, was amazing. Quiet, serene and relaxing. can't wait to go back again.

This hot spring has a lot of rules and regulations. No phones, no pictures, basically no talking or you will be shushed. Despite all of that, I still really enjoyed the hot springs and found them to be really well maintained. The water is a beautiful color, there is no sulphur smell and the whole facility is very nice. There are little boxcar type structures that have restrooms, showers and changing rooms which is very nice. You can also buy snacks and drinks inside! It's $25 for a 2.5hr soak and I think it's worth it to try. It was overcast when I came but normally there would be a great view of the Sangre de cristo mountains.

Ronnie (we think that was her name) was absolutely amazing!!! She is the sweetest girl and made she we were having the best time for the entirety of our stay. She kept us extremely comfortable and made sure we understood any rules set in place were only to ensure the comfortability of anyone and everyone staying with Desert Reef. The morning staff was just as amazing and attentive to us. We will absolutely be returning and have been recommending this place to all of our friends! Best staff we've encountered in a long time :)) Make sure to give them a visit

We loved our stay at Desert Reef. We stayed in one of the tiny homes and it was so cute. The unit was super hot when we first entered (wish they would have started cooling it off before we got there) but the a/c unit worked very well and kept us cool throughout the night. We were there in April and it wasn't especially hot so not sure if that would be more of an issue during hotter months. I was surprised to find that none of the tiny homes have showers. Obviously that was in the pictures but I just must not have even noticed. We were only there for one night so it wasn't a big deal. They have showers right near the pools. Food - there is no food available at Desert Reef. If you're staying overnight be prepared for this!! The tiny home we stayed in had a microwave, coffee maker and small refrigerator. We found 3 places on DoorDash that we were able to get delivery from - pizza place, Asian place, and fast food burger place. Dollar general was also an option on there. We ordered from the pizza place and we were able to get gluten free crust for this gluten free girl so that was exciting! Desert Reef is BYOB so we just brought our own wine and brought some cheap cups with lids we picked up at the dollar store so we could take our wine to the pools. It wasn't too far to get there off the main road at all. Location was fine. Especially since we headed out to Cañon City to ride the train the next day. It was only about 20 or 25 mins to Cañon City. But be prepared, the road out to Desert Reef is super bumpy dirt road. We were glad we had rented a 4 Runner for the weekend. The pools were so nice. The lady upfront recommended that we spend sunset in one of the 3 pools to the left as the view was better from there and then move over the the main pool for stargazing. It is clothing optional. People did go fully nude, although when we first got there around 5PM no one was partaking in this, but we noticed throughout the evening more and more did. We had never been anywhere like this before but didn't find it to be uncomfortable at all. And there are absolutely no phones allowed at the pool. (Remember this if you order food for delivery. I made sure to wear my Apple Watch for this reason). (I was able to snap some pics since we were staying there and I snagged some before other people were around). Overall we would absolutely recommend Desert Reef and had a great time.

If I could do it again, this is how I would do it: step by step down below: 1. 15 minute sauna session 2. 1-2 minute cold plunge 3. 5 minute sauna session. 4. Rinse off and hydrate 5. Relax and go to your tub Cold plunge treatments are so good for your body. They are a little uncomfortable your first time. We loved the cold plunge pool and the convince of the clock showing the time. The saline pools were great and it was nice to have the different temps. The pools were a bit close together so great if you have a larger group and want to socialize. Book the private tun for a bit more money if you want privacy. However people were respectful overall and voices were kept low. The only downside was the lack of bathroom facilities. On our floor there were 12 people using 2- 2 shower bathrooms. We only did the soak and I would do other services in the future. The parking situation is on the street and I'm off times it's free for 2 hours. The price was very reasonable. We will definitely be back when we are in town. Services requested were as expected.

My kids "wow! camping is so fun!" While this may be marketed as The Broadmoor's Wildnerness…read moreExperience it's far from camping. It's even a few steps above glamping as it should be for the steep price. However, if you want to experience a few days in a great outdoors The Ranch at Emerald Valley is perfect. After 4 nights at the Broadmoor resort (also amazing) we took the 2pm shuttle up a rocky mountain road to the Ranch. We were greeted by Aaron, a fellow Northwestern alum (go Wildcats) and his incredible staff. There were 38 people total our first night there, which the told us was a record for the Ranch. It didn't feel very crowded though (especially after the craziness of the resort) and most of the people had kids the same age as ours which was a lot of fun. They showed us to our cabin, Hills Cabin, which I realized was the "presidential cabin." It was a huge 2 bedroom cabin that had enough room for 6 kids up in loft up top and a beautiful master suite. + 3 bathrooms and a ginormous kitchen/dining room that we didn't really put to use. It also have a big TV with Netflix and a lovely fireplace. There's a 3rd bedroom that's attached to it, although the 2nd night we were there it was rented by another couple with a separate entrance. There's plenty of fun to be had at the ranch: horseback riding, paddleboats/kayaks, archery, fishing, hiking etc. And if you get a rainy afternoon there are plenty of board games to play both in the lodge and in the cabin. We spent 2 nights here, although with the rain wish we had an extra night to enjoy some of the activities we didn't have a chance to squeeze in. The food was absolutely amazing. My picky children were even in heaven and my little guy has been asking for lobster ever since trying it as their Wed night cookout. Dinners besides the twice a week cookout involves ordering off a menu with plenty of choices for all. I do wish they did a better job with labeling the buffet with food allergies. My son has a serious nut allergy and almost ate a brownie with walnuts because it wasn't labeled and I had to constantly ask if things had nuts and/or gluten in them. They asked for our dietary restrictions ahead of time so assumed they'd be better about this. This really was a very special experience that I think our kids will remember for a long time. I heard this coming week a big family is renting out the entire ranch and I'd love to do the same with family and/or friends at some point, although it was fun getting to know some lovely people from around the country as well.

Great Views. Zero Soul…read more I genuinely wanted to love this place. It had everything on paper - the views, the parking, the promise. So here's my honest advice: Book one night in the big suite, don't interact with management or the events team, eat somewhere else, and leave. You'll actually enjoy yourself. Here's the reality: It's gorgeous on the outside. But in my experience, there's no soul or integrity behind the facade. The service culture feels stuck in a bygone era - and not in a charming way. The locker rooms are cramped, poorly maintained, and frankly, they smell. The food is forgettable. The spa feels pretentious and operates on what I can only describe as a 1987 business model. I was told I'd need to order a nail job just to access the steam room. Make it make sense. The concierge was genuinely lovely - but it felt like her hands were tied by management's outdated approach. She seemed to want to help more than the system would allow. The events department was, in my experience, a major disappointment. Communication felt disorganized and unresponsive. When I asked for a simple proposal, I was told they "couldn't possibly do that for every inquiry" - in 2025, when AI tools can generate a polished, customized proposal in minutes. I tested it myself using Canva and Claude with their own metrics. Took me four minutes. The resistance to modernizing felt deliberate. Outside of the top-tier suites - which are reasonably priced by Colorado standards ---this felt like a mediocre hotel calling itself a resort. It is not The Broadmoor. It is not a Four Seasons. Those places deliver hospitality with humanity. This felt more like a zombie party with a great view. My honest opinion? It feels like ownership is either disengaged, burnt out, or simply no longer pursuing excellence. That said - if you're a Colorado local, the 10% room discount is a nice touch. Choose your room wisely, skip on-site dining, and check out 503W nearby for great prices and actual atmosphere. For corporate events? I'd look elsewhere.
