I feel that when Mr. Ewald was the principal, the school was an amazing place. The overall morale…read moreamong students, parents, and staff was much more positive, and there was a stronger sense of community and support throughout the school. Since Ms. Chartier took over as principal, it feels like the school has unfortunately started to fall apart in several areas. Academically, many classes seem to be falling behind, and there are growing concerns from parents about the quality of education students are receiving. More importantly, many students no longer feel safe or supported at school, which is extremely concerning for families who trust the school with their children every day. Another issue that has become very noticeable is favoritism. Many parents and even staff members have expressed frustration about unequal treatment and the lack of consistency when addressing concerns. I have personally spoken with several staff members and parents who say they have repeatedly tried to resolve issues, but their concerns are often dismissed. Many describe Ms. Chartier as rude, unprofessional, and difficult to communicate with. It is especially upsetting to see front office staff having to apologize to parents and students because of the way situations are handled. No staff member should feel responsible for smoothing over embarrassing or negative interactions caused by school leadership. Overall, it is heartbreaking to see such a decline in the school environment compared to how things were under Mr. Ewald's leadership. I truly wish Mr. Ewald would have remained principal because the school felt more organized, welcoming, and supportive during his time there.

Fake classes that never led to a high school degree. If you want your kid out of the house and you have money to throw , go ahead. My son went back to weed and vaping.

I have often said, and it's completely true, that I wish all kids could go here. The staff, while…read morenot perfect, were epic. My extremely bright son came as a drug user and had other "issues." I won't speak to those because I am not a mental health expert but he was acting out in ways that were injuring him and others. Here he experienced "real men" being manly, real support from staff and other students, and left here with a terrific grasp on reality and what he needed to do to succeed. He went to university, was accepted to the best medical school in the country and is now a doctor with a lovely, brilliant wife. I have a huge affection for this place and how they helped this great kid turn his life around. There are stories: I remember one about a teenaged boy who had never read a book! - He began to read. Others had years of failure, and began to succeed. It was not easy for my son, I am sure, and not for me either as we missed a lot of "normal" teenage stuff, dances, athletics, parties... but we ended up with a sound and healthy man of whom I am extremely proud. He did it, but they gave him the vision and the space to make it happen. Thank you.

So far so good. Our kinder experience at Basis Tucson Primary has been a lot better than our prek…read moreexperience at Leman Academy. The school strongly emphasizes academics and kids are given letter/percentage grades like high schools do. Yes there's pressure but nothing we can't handle so far. My complaints: 1. De-prioritization of physical activity. You have to put your child in an after school club (more money) for dance, bowling, and other movement-based activities. I had the opportunity to volunteer to help with hot lunch once. I learned a lot. Like just how short lunch is; it explained why my daughter was hungry but had uneaten food in her lunch last semester. Volunteering has opened my eyes and I started packing her lunches a little differently 2. It's a charter school so they have to raise money. However, the fundraiser updates in the app are ridiculous. Class vs class, grade vs grade. Everyone hurry and donate before the deadline...use the AZ tax credit...oh the deadline has been extended so you can donate more (no surprise) None of the issues I mentioned are major to me. Why? Because my kindergartener is reading, can read digital and analog clocks, she can add double-digit numbers, etc but her friends who are in 1st and 2nd grade in TUSD schools aren't there yet. The academic advantage Basis provides is unparalleled without attending an expensive private school But there are pros and cons to each school and I've included a couple for potential parents considering the school

I just had a concerning conversation with her regarding her science class today. There was a movie…read moreshowed and she expressed that she was very uncomfortable and the teacher quickly dismissed her and forced her to watch this video or go the principal's office. Now this sounds a lot like bullying to me from the teachers to student. If a student concerns, uncomfortable, and would like to leave the room they should, am I wrong? Now this has been going on all year and I've been quiet about it. I'm not pleased with the staff nor the faculty on how they pursue my daughter into wanting her to change instead of developing her strengths the way that needs to be done and I feel really awful and shameful for bringing her to the school. I will never recommend Basis. I hope you guys change the way that you view your students they are not robots. They are human beings and if they feel uneasy about a situation, they have the right to speak up.
