When looking for a place to eat a good lunch in Belem, while trying to avoid tourist filled spots - it seems like you're looking for a needle in a hay stack to be honest. Either there are restaurants with lines outside the door, or you find places with really poor reviews. We were so happy to find Descobre on Yelp, and decided to give it a go. When we arrived it had a really inviting entrance with different wines on display, and a menu outside that completely convinced us to give it a go. The dining area isdecorated with a modern and minimalistic vibe - which we realized would be the theme for lunch. We found that here less is more. The bread with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar or the olive paste were absolutely delicious. We then went for the tuna brochettes which were really tasty and cooked to perfection. For the main course we tried the grouper with a side of grilled vegetables, and the Mediterranean bass with a side of celery and carrot puree. These were absolutely delicious - simple but exploded with flavor, and the quantities were perfect. We ended our lunch with a lemon and basil sorbet which was quite good. We noticed that the rest of the people dining here were Portuguese, and when we walked outside and saw the masses filling the restaurant across the street, we were even more satisfied with our choice. I definitely hope that more people will give Descobre a chance as it definitely deserves it. read more

Excellent food and service! The appetizer portions are quite large! We got the squid and suckling pork to start. The squid was very flavorful and the pork was tender. We both had the seafood linguine which was very tasty. Our favorite dish of the night was definitely the squid! read more

An excellent restaurant with MANY selections on the menu. You can do tapas style small plates or regular entrees. Everything is a la carte. Prices are not touristy crazy. Myself and my daughter visited this restaurant recently. It was our first time to visit Belem and as this restaurant was close by we gave it a go. We both had a starter and main course. The starter was just ok. I chose Duck for the main course while my daughter chose Steak. We asked for saute potatoes with the meat dishes (as nothing accompanied them). After waiting for almost 10 mins we were served with a bowl of "crisps". A little later I spoke to the waitress and told her again what we ordered. Another 10 mins passed and I had to get up from my seat to ask someone where the "saute" potatoes were!!! The waitress was very "matter of fact" and was surprised that we had an issue with accepting crisps with our meal. I did say at this stage that in all my visits to restaurants I was NEVER served crisps with a meal. She was totally unapologetic - bordering on being rude!!. I enjoyed my visit to Belem and indeed visited Portugal on a number of occasions but the negative experience I had at this restaurant will be difficult to forget. read more
