After that, I…read morewas treated so poorly that I wondered if he was confusing me with someone that had done him wrong. It was a herculean task to get him to communicate with the other professionals he referred me to. He delayed my treatment and wouldn't even say hello, whenever he had to interact with me (which were rare occasions). I assumed that he didn't realize the difficulty of the case, and knew he was probably not capable of doing the job. He could have just said so, instead of treating me in such an unethical, inhumane and humiliating fashion at the most vulnerable time in my life. His assistant probably noticed and attempted to make up for his rude and unprofessional behavior, and that was very appreciated (she is a sweetheart.) His hygienists are amazing and I am so thankful for them. Do us all a favor and retire, Dr. Margeas! You ARE NOT God's gift to dentistry, as you think you are. I went to God's gift to dentistry, and he is humble, kind, ethical, humane and probably one of the most competent REAL cosmetic dentists in the US ( Dr. Sam Sadati.) The only thing I am thankful for, is the referral you made to Dr. Neil Dunbar (an outstanding surgeon and human).

I have had a dental bridge for over 35 years, which that is relatively unheard of! I go there twice a year religiously and today I was there for a filling repair. Dr. Economos was great to work with and if I needed more work done I would definitely use him again! Thanks for being the BEST in town! If you need a dentist that is not pushing unnecessary services this is the place. They never ever push services!

Horrible experience! Lied about procedures and completely disrespected my oral care decisions…read more During my appointment, Plum Drive Dental suddenly added a requirement for new x-rays to extort more money. I could have obtained (current) X-rays from my previous Dentist, had Plum Drive Dental mentioned that they wanted them any time in the 1.5 months before they could work in an appointment for me. My wishes were disregarded and both the Dentist and Assistants were not forth right with me. They did not explain how many X-rays they planned to take. They made it sound as though only 2 would be required, then proceeded to take 18 X-rays. I tried to decline the X-rays, but was told that my teeth would not be cleaned unless I submitted to having new X-rays taken. Furthermore, the assistant said that X-rays were fully covered by my insurance, but that was not true, as my insurance only covered a percentage. She also neglected to mentioned the deductible. There's no reason to take X-rays for a general teeth cleaning. I am very disappointed by Plum Drive Dental's bully tactics to extort a higher profit through dishonesty and disregard of patient oral care decisions. Avoid these crooks and find a Dentist that respects you. Note: I reached out Plum Drive Dental through several phone calls and a written letter, but they completely refused to address my concerns or make things right. Plum Drive Dental billed me for the percentage that my insurance didn't cover for the (un-necessary) X-rays. I initially refused to pay, but eventually settled on paying a reduced bill for them to stop hounding me; but I don't feel that I should have had to pay anything, since I didn't want or need the X-rays.

I'm not going to lie, I've always dreaded going to the dentist and moving from Ankeny to Urbandale…read moreI put off finding one local but I am so glad I stumbled upon Dr. McDonald's practice! The location is convenient and in between work and home so I drove by at least twice a day and decided to look into them. It's located in a business strip and has it's own parking lot. When I walk in, Monica has always greeted me warmly. She is one of the office assistants and she was so incredibly helpful and friendly. I was trying to get my records switched over and Monica offered to take care of it. There were issues where my former dentist office LOST my records but Monica helped me sort out what to do and called my insurance company to make sure I was covered and good to go. I so appreciated everything she did because she could have left it to me but actually wanted to help. Lori was my dental hygienist and I swear she is the best! It was my first cleaning ever that did not hurt at all! She's very gentle and provides caring advice on how to keep up with my dental hygiene with no judgment (yes, I really should floss more!). Dr. McDonald is also great. He gave me options of what I could do for some of my dental concerns and answered all my questions. You could tell he really cares and takes pride in his work. Never pressured me into choosing any services either. My husband who has really sensitive teeth and gums said that it was pretty much pain free for him too and a lot better than other places he's been. He also agreed that Dr. McDonald was really informative about his options and no pressure to get work done. I could seriously go on and on but I won't. Just want to say I highly recommend anyone looking for a dentist in the DSM area to consider McDonald Family Dentistry for their staff and the care they give their patients. Such a great practice overall!

As a retired Army veteran with federal benefits, I have dealt with insurance systems for decades…read more Never--during active duty or in retirement--have I been placed in a position where I was responsible for nearly 80% of a medical bill due to a provider's failure to properly manage pre-authorization. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened with this Oral Surgeon's office. Let me be clear: the quality of the surgical procedure itself was excellent. The clinical care deserves recognition. The issue is not the surgeon's skill, nor even the total price charged--despite the fact that their pricing is roughly 200% above insurance norms based on MetLife's nationwide averages. The issue is how their insurance claim representative handled our case, and the complete lack of accountability from the Office Manager, Justine. Prior to the procedure, we were told our responsibility would be the $1,500 down payment, with a possible additional 10% due to being out-of-network. My wife even called to confirm this information to ensure we understood our financial obligation. At no point were we informed that we could be responsible for 80% of the total bill. We fully understand that estimates are estimates--but there is a significant difference between minor variance and a massive financial discrepancy caused by administrative negligence. The core problem: proper prior authorization was never fully obtained from MetLife. It appears the office simply confirmed that we had insurance coverage rather than securing detailed authorization and benefit breakdowns. Had this been handled correctly, one of two things would have happened: We would have been clearly informed of the true out-of-pocket cost and could have planned accordingly or delayed treatment until the following year to leverage our HSA benefits; or MetLife may have authorized a greater portion based on their average nationwide reimbursement standards (they pay 60% of their determined allowable amount). Instead, we were blindsided after the procedure was completed. When I contacted the office for assistance, there was no ownership of the mistake. No meaningful advocacy on our behalf. No attempt to escalate with the carrier. The only solution offered was a payment plan--along with subtle implications that we should have ensured pre-authorization was completed before choosing their practice. That response is unacceptable. Patients rely on medical offices to handle insurance verification and authorization correctly. That is part of the administrative service they provide. What is most disappointing is the complete absence of empathy or accountability. The apology felt rehearsed and routine, not reflective of any genuine concern for the financial hardship created by their internal oversight. Again, the surgical care was good. Had we been properly informed upfront that we would owe the full balance--or even 30% more than what we had already paid--we would have made an informed decision without complaint. Paying for quality care is not the issue. Transparency, due diligence, and patient advocacy are. This experience reflects a serious breakdown in administrative responsibility. Patients deserve better financial transparency and far greater accountability from a medical office entrusted with both their health and their financial well-being.
