We booked in advance as there were five adults, two pre-school and a baby. We were given a superb table setting, large enough for all and very comfortable. The service throughout was absolutely faultless.
All, including the little ones, had a bowl of salad while waiting for our order and it was wonderful to be able to choose whatever we wanted. The two younger ones especially enjoyed this part as they have unusual tastes and really love salads. The "red devil" sauce was very tasty but disappointing as I was expecting a hot sauce, rather than barbecue flavour, but the other choices were amazing.
We also had drinks at this point. The tea and coffees were excellent, the beers less so as the only real ale choice was an out-of-date Doom Bar, which was immediately changed for a keg beer.
As you would expect, we ordered quite a variety of main meals - the little ones being happy with chips to go with their bowl of salad and the baby eating bits from everyone's.
I had quesadillas with "chunky chips"; full of spicy pulled steak and jalapenos - pure heaven. Two of the other adults opted for one of the "combos" with different meats; they were also amazed at the quality and quantity.
Unfortunately, two of the meals were rather disappointing. The Waffles with bacon and other things which I forget was nice but the waffles were like pieces of concrete. The waitress checked and agreed with us and we were refunded the cost of that meal - well done Harvester.
The "ordinary" cod, chips and mushy peas was the other let-down as the fish fillet was so thin as to be almost non-existent in places. As my sister-in-law ate every crumb on the plate, we couldn't really complain much, but did let them know.
By this time, we were all so satiated that a dessert was out of the question.
Altogether, we will be returning in the future as it was an enjoyable meal over all and I would like to see if our disappointments were just "one-offs" as I suspect them to be. read more
